We recently welcomed a special guest across the Excelcare Group to spread joy in celebration of our Chief Operating Officer, Sam Manning’s birthday.
Bailey Bear, our new mascot, travelled to each of our 30 care homes and our homecare service in Tower Hamlets, bringing miniature versions of Bailey Bear along for residents.
Inspired by an interaction our senior management team had with Mr Bailey, a care home resident who helped shape the way we deliver care to individuals, Bailey Bear was introduced to help create memorable moments and deliver smiles.
Bailey Bear’s travels around the group had a really positive impact, and with the gift of a small teddy bear in hand, residents responded with positivity and heartfelt joy.
At Hunters Down Care Home in Cambridge, the team observed meaningful moments of connection and saw first-hand the impact the visit and gifts had on members of our care home community.
“There were smiles, cuddles, laughter, and even a few happy tears at Hunters Down Care Home as we welcomed Bailey Bear.
“One of the most touching moments came from Barbara, who instantly fell in love with Bailey Bear. She couldn't resist giving the mascot a big cuddle and was overjoyed to receive her own bear. Barbara shared that she had never really owned a teddy bear before, making the gift even more meaningful. The following day, she was still carrying her little Bailey Bear around with her and proudly taking care of it.
“The visit created a truly magical atmosphere, filling our home with warmth, happiness, and treasured memories,” said Lifestyle Coordinator, Kristine.
We know that doll therapy can be a powerful tool in dementia care, as it provides people with something to care for. We regularly see people speaking with their dolls, brushing their hair, and treating them with care – as they would have done with their own children.
The teddy bears gifted to residents had a similar impact, as we saw people cuddling their bears, checking on their wellbeing, and stroking their soft fur.
For us, the success of Bailey Bear’s visit highlights how small gestures can make a meaningful difference, creating moments of comfort, connection, and happiness for those living in care.
