When my mum was taken into hospital over a year ago, we were told she she couldn't return home as my dad couldn't take care of her needs any longer. She was put in an assessment home but it was awful. So chaotic, with residence with concerning needs and the Home itself was in a state of disrepair..
I feared for my Mum In that Home. When we said we didn't want her to stay in there, we were told we had to find our own home so my brother and I went out to find that Home and came across Abbey Grange. We were welcomed into the home by the lady on reception and was shown round by another lovely lady who unfortunately is no longer with us. We were made to feel very welcome and the Home itself felt incredibly welcoming. We decided that that's where we wanted my mum to go, but unfortunately the Home is so popular it's taken us a long time to finally get her in there but now she's there we are quite happy with the Home. The (Carers) seem to be very attentive and the home itself seems comfortable.

My father in-law had the misfortune to experience this care home. I wont go into great detail, i've seen replies to other negative reviews where the management suggest contacting them to discuss the issues. I discussed the issues while my father-in-law was in the home, repeatedly and they were not
addressed. These carers who we are expected to put on a pedestal fir their efforts ( at this home st least) manage to sit outside 2 sometimes 3 times an hour for a cigarette. When it came to caring gir my father in-law I can only say in my opinion that the staff were happy to convince you they had heard your requests but never once acted upon them. The nurse who was sent to answer our medical concerns did not have good enough english language skills to explain how much fluid he had drank. If she didn't like the question she rolled her eyes and pretended not to understand. I could go on and on but the gist of this feedback is, please find another facility for your loved one.

My dad has only been here a short while as he was here for short term assessment. He has been cared for really well. We have found all the staff to be very friendly & helpful. He is being transferred to another nursing home for location reasons. We have no complaints regarding the care he has
received. We would like to say a big thank you to all the staff who have been involved with his care.

I have been visiting my uncle for the last four years. He is well cared for and given options if he wants to stay in bed or go in the day room. Staff are approachable and friendly. Clean care home and a safe home. Good security in place.

Resident admitted at short notice. No pre-admission assessment. Diagnosis of quadriplegia not noticed. Patient hoisted on straps. Staff generally friendly and helpful but much misunderstanding and misinformation.
Two hourly turns from spinal unit request changed by management to four hourly - and
longer. Resident now has large bed sore on lower spine, now being dressed 3 times daily. High-dose antibiotics causing mouth ulcers. Is on morphine patches.
Two hourly turns now being administered but physio to prevent spasticity not recommended.
Resident now very frail, almost back in foetal position, under palliative care, very depressed. Refusing food and drink. Deteriorating rapidly.

Finally, I find the

Myself and my family were apprehensive when my husband left hospital in September. He was not well enough to return home to us and was directed to Abbey Grange. We were loaded with guilt and anxiety about this. We were completely wrong. During his time on Mappin Wing we found the staff warm-hearted,
considerate and so caring. We visited often and almost regarded them all as family. When he died they continued to care for us. Cups of tea and sandwiches appeared by magic, and hugs galore. The caring staff were ace and the medical staff were respectful and totally professional. Nothing was too much trouble even if it seemed silly.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
