View Full Details of Whittington Care HomeI have always found the staff at Whittington care home very helpful, from the admin to the nurses and carers to the leaners and even the maintenance staff are all very pleasant. Everyone remarks on how good the food is also. I also like the way they keep me uodated on mums health.
It is very difficult to wright a review due to the restrictive nature of your Review Policy, so anyone reading this please take into account, I am unable to accurately review this without any form of deformation, all I would say is please visit this place before allowing a family member to become a resident, most residents are walking and talking so care for them is better, but if you are bed bound and in a confused state then ask to see the room they are likely to placed in. note the inactivity of the staff, I only came across one proactive member. I am unable to say any more than care is no the word I would use.
My dad was transferred here on 11/04/25. The care you have given has been excellent. He has built up his strength with the care staff, and they have taken care of him at meal times. He's been contended with his stay and all staff have been helpful when we have asked questions about his welfare.
I visit my sister every week and I can recommend the activity staff memebrs. She is always doing a variety of activities and although my sister rarely participates, I can see what pleasure the other residents have in joining in. A credit to the home.
Excellent care, professional, kind, understanding. Everything I would wish for my husband. Lots of empathy both for me and my husband. I ask him every time I visit if he is happy & the reply is always "yes, they look after me & chat." Food very good.
My mum & dad moved in November 2024 & while is was a difficult adjustment at first I am now so happy that they are in Whittington Care Home. My parents are well looked after, safe & warm. The staff are all fantastic, caring, supportive and friendly. I have to give a shout out for 5 staff members in particular - these are the staff I seem to see the most & my parents love them. All of them though are really good.
My brother moved here from Calderdale. He is a Chesterfield-born man and wanted to get back to his home town. Whittington looked over his care plan documents, spoke with his social worker and said they could meet his needs. It's been amazing for him. In his previous home, he had refused to bathe for over 18 months. Lived off pancakes twice a day for 8 months. His Parkinson's disease was not well managed and his learning difficulties were ignored. He wasn't getting his hair washed regularly and wasn't getting his toenails cut often enough. Wasn't taken to the podiatrist for over 6 months. Now he showers every week, and gets his hair cut in the home's salon. Gets his foot care done with the regular visiting podiatrist. Eats 4 meals a day and lots of variety. He's gone up 2 sizes in trousers since he moved in 14 weeks ago. Even though I'm over 80 miles away, I ring him most days and staff always update me on any appointments, medication changes etc.
I am very happy with the standard of care that my mum receives. The staff are friendly, kind, caring and very patient. They really get to know the residents which enables them to communicate and reminisce with them about their past. Communication is excellent. I am always kept updated about my mum. The home has a very friendly atmosphere and visitors are always made to feel very welcome.
My wife came to Whittington Care Home some 4 weeks ago. During this time I have gradually noticed her improvement, eating and cleanliness is first class. The staff are all as helpful and the nursing care is as good as I have experienced and I feel that my darling wife has found the right place for her.
The staff members at Whittington Care Home are fantastic! Such a great team who are all so caring. During a difficult time, they provided nothing but support to everyone involved. We cannot thank all the home staff enough.
Mum moved here in October 2023 when I first visited on Monday 23rd October. I was extremely impressed by the care staff in the lounge. They interacted so well with all the residents and attended to their needs. As a staff nurse myself I shared this with the Manager. Unfortunately mum ended up in hospital but the care team and the Advanced Practitioner were phenomenal. Upon discharge the care is outstanding and all the carers are considerable and a credit to the home.
My relative has been in Whittington Care Home for only three weeks and naturally, it is taking time to settle. The staff, however, are extremely caring, tolerant of her sometimes violent mood swings, very professional, patient and nothing seems to overwhelm them. Actually, I am amazed at the competence, friendliness and dedication of the staff who carry out their sometimes very unpleasant duties with a smile. Care, welfare and comfort of residents is obviously a priority and I am relieved and satisfied with all standards of residential and nursing care at Whittington Care Home.
My Mum was moved to Whittington care home during COVID. We didn't have a chance to see where she was going due to the restrictions at the time. Since she has been there we have noticed that she is calmer and happier than we have seen her for a while. The staff are excellent. They keep us informed of anything that is happening with Mum. I have nothing but praise for the staff and management at Whittington, they do an amazing job under difficult circumstances. Thank you.
Dad has been residing at Whittington Care Home since February. He was placed there based on area and need. We are so grateful this place was chosen for him. He is happy, very well looked after. The staff are absolutely amazing, caring, professional and go over and above for residents in their care. We can’t praise the home enough. Dad has people to chat to and socialise with, the staff treat him with the utmost respect and consideration, just as family would do. Staff know their residents, and make plans for activities and involvement, and also the Manager has clearly shown that the residents are her priority, she knows each individual as do her staff. The clinical staff instil confidence in our family that Dad's needs are fully met. The lounge has glass on two walls, it’s possible to drive into the car park and see the residents interacting with staff, residents always look well cared for and nicely groomed. In this difficult time, we couldn’t ask for more.
My wife recently spent about three weeks in your care, because she had to be isolated as a result of a weakened immune system resulting from cancer treatment. Whilst I could not visit due to the coronavirus, I spoke frequently with her during the early days of her stay, she was well pleased with the level of care and enjoyed conversation with kind staff members. I also found the staff kind and caring when I contacted them by phone. Unfortunately, her weakened immune system eventually gave way due to pneumonia, my son and I were allowed to sit with her at lifes end. We both thank the staff for their care and attention given to us during a difficult time. We highly recommend this establishment, our satisfactory rating for food drink and activities is only because my wife was not well enough to take advantages of all that was offered.
The staff are caring and very friendly, nothing is too much trouble. My friend is well cared for and she thinks the home is really good.
From the first day we viewed the care home, the transfer from the hospital and the care my father has received has been excellent. All the staff are friendly and always keep me informed about his care.
Every one of the staff can't do enough for you and everyone knows what you've mentioned - communication is very good. They are warm and friendly with the residents without being patronising. The reason that activities is rated as poor is that there is only one member of staff for all the residents. This is not enough, as my mother likes to be busy and there is no one to supervise this. She could use four hours a day. This one member of staff is good but overwhelmed.
The family always feel guilty when a member of the family has to go into care but my Aunty enjoyed joining in all the social activities, especially a sing-song. The love and attention shown to her by all the staff was outstanding. I could visit at any time of day and night and she was always happy. Later on, when she needed bed care, she was treated exceptionally well. The staff became her family (especially the males). She loved them and they all loved her.
Overall very good, the staff are amazing. I think the food could be improved on and this is the one thing my mum complains about the most. The activities are another area which I think could be improved on. I was told the residents frequently went out for meals but to my knowledge my mum as only been out once to the coast which she loved.
