Hawthorns is an excellent care home, outstanding team of carers, nurses, admin and support staff. I highly recommend this home.

I feel that the standards have fallen over the last six months. I have the highest praise for all the staff and find their dedication exceptional. I attend Hawthorns daily & notice staff shortages on a regular basis I have been told the ratio of staff & residents is correct, unfortunately sickness,
holidays and training don't understand ratios. Certain times of the day, they are constantly firefighting. Recently the situation has got worse as there is now only 1 toilet downstairs, the other is used for storage. My 2nd complaint is there is a beautiful conservatory waiting for a new roof and it is still the same since January, which means the only place to sit is the lounge. There is no quiet room for residents and relatives to talk and read. Also part of the conservatory could be used for storage.

My husband has been a resident at Hawthorns for 3 1/2 months. It is a small carehome with a friendly atmosphere. The staff are helpful and kind attending to R's considerable needs with patience and respect. Hawthorns is an old house and a little shabby but always clean and homely. Activities
provided are numerous but unfortunately R is reluctant to participate, hopefully this may change with encouragement. Meals are adequate though more fruit and vegetables would be appreciated. Overall Hawthorns provides a secure and caring environment with a friendly atmosphere - it is truly a home and not an institution.

Hawthorn's care home, is a very family orientated, caring, approachable home. Full of love, joy and care for residents and families alike. Residents have dignity, fabulous care and activity programme 24/7. Home has heart, warmth and life. Can't recommend enough, walk away each visit feeling relieved
loved ones are looked after really well.

I cannot rate the team at Hawthorns highly enough! From the lovely staff on reception through to the support maintenance staff and the carers, chefs and nurses, everyone take the time to genuinely engage with residents, visitors and relatives. I recently visited with my family from Australia and it
was very emotional seeing my mum unable to walk and in aged care for the first time. The staff made us so welcome and always go over and above to truly care and love the people in their care. The food is freshly cooked and everyday there are amazing homemade cakes!
The center is excellently managed and you can tell the team works really well together in what is a highly stressful industry. I leave feeling very reassured and grateful that my mother is in such good hands. The combination of caring and expert nursing care is also very good, and they always make my Dad so welcome as he visits daily and stays a long time. There is a great range of of activities on a daily basis too!

My mother was at The Hawthorns for two and a half years and was given an incredible party when she was one hundred years old. The staff were extremely patient and caring. I always enjoyed my visits as there was a friendly, happy atmosphere in the home, with staff working well together. My mother
enjoyed the home cooked food.

Very helpful staff. The home has a friendly feeling about it. Catering and drinks for residents are of the highest quality. The cleaners are always gong to keep everything tidy. All in all The Hawthorns is run in a professional manner, with a personal touch.

I required a nursing home for my sister who was dying of pancreatic cancer. My wife found this care home located close to our residence. A neighbouring surgery was another important consideration to enable monitoring of her health. I was stuck by the informality of the home and its homely atmosphere
and unlike an institutional set-up that I imagined many homes to provide. The staff were particularly attentive and supportive. Many activities and trips were organised for the residents. My sister made use of the enclosed rear garden and her room was well laid out and bright. The management were very approachable, but my sister was not keen on the food. Generally, a lovely environment for my dying sister.

Thanks for looking after my mother-in-law. She has received great care from the staff.
The rooms are tired with no ensuites and no views. A view of a brick wall is no way to die!
All staff have been superb and caring.

My husband has been in The Hawthorns for one year. Not only is the home spotlessly clean, but the feeling in the home is warm and caring. He was beautifully looked after, and any difficulty was dealt with promptly. The family too was thought about. I am very grateful.

My brother came to The Hawthorns for end-of-life care on the 7th of August 2023. He was always treated with the utmost dignity and respect. The care and support given to him and our family was outstanding. He was always kept clean and was thoroughly spoilt in his last weeks of life. His room was
clean and comfortable. The manager gave us a warm welcome every time we visited and nothing was too much trouble. I can thoroughly recommend The Hawthorns, your loved one will be well cared for there.

I'm the brother of an "end-of-life care" resident at the home. We wish to express our profound thanks to all the staff for the quality of care they displayed, whatever their involvement in the operation of their home. It was notable whenever we were there how everyone helped in the smooth running of
the home.

My mother has been at The Hawthorns for a number of years. The staff are always kind and nice. She is so pleased with her room's redecoration.

Exceptional standard of continuing care for my father. The staff are diligent, caring and appear happy in their work. My father always looks clean and well presented and I'm always informed of any health issues. The staff truly get to know their residents as proven recently when my father had to go
to hospital and the paramedics praised the staff for their knowledge of my dad's health history.
I would thoroughly recommend The Hawthorns Care Home.

Although the people are caring the building is tired. Maintenance is poor and the management seems unwilling to spend the money on getting professionals in, instead relying on a handyman who does his best but he is not a tradesman.
13 December 2022
No words could express the depth of our family's collective gratitude for the highest quality of care and support consistently extended to our late mother whilst she was a resident at The Hawthorns care home for over five years. Truly a home-from-home - Outstanding!
14 June 2022
My previous experience of residential care was some time ago but I was anxious when it was decided my sister needed respite care (at that stage). Any fears myself and her three daughters had, were soon banished with the extreme kindness of the staff, the welcome she was given and the room allocated.
At that time, she was physically weak and emotionally empty. She is now joining in social activities. Within three weeks, it was agreed it was unsafe for her to return home and she wants to stay - a decision we all support. A huge thank you to The Hawthorns.

I have found the staff at Hawthornes helpful and very pleasant. Foodwise, only porridge every morning - eggs would be a change. I have also noticed drinks are left on the tray - not helped to drink - hence cold tea. Overall, is good. I cannot give a true review on certain conditions, due to covid.

I was very pleased when my wife was discharged from hospital to The Hawthorns as my own mother was there from 2010 to 2015 and the care she received was excellent. My wife has secondary progressive MS and a multiple of other problems, and having to be hoisted and loss of bowel/bladder etc. She has
been there 5 months now and with the help of NHS/continued care. I hope she can remain as she is very happy there. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and management and they have bent over backwards for her. All in all, an excellent care home in a lovely old house in a beautiful part of Norwich.
08 March 2022
Having recently spent five weeks in the hospital and not allowed any visitors because of covid, I was admitted to The Hawthorns in January 2022, where I was warmly welcomed. The care I am receiving here is quite different to the hospital where the people were shouting out at night and were fighting
the nurses with their feet, causing me extreme tension.
