Middleton Hall Retirement Village
One Man's Experience
I am the sole male resident of the particular section where I am domiciled (other than one man who spends much of his time wandering round the estate 'talking to himself' and into meetings to which he has not been invited). I have been
here for approximately 16 months and would like to share my experience to help others avoid similar mistakes and to assist the management team in enhancing the quality of life at Middleton Hall Retirement Village (MHRV).
My review covers the following aspects:
The Estate
The approach to the 'estate' is via a long drive with grass and trees on the left and farmland on the right. There is a small 'gatehouse' on the left as one enters this drive. In Spring, flowers such a snowdrops and daffodils emerge from their winter habitat; in Summer, more so.
General: The grounds extend to approximately 45 acres, however a significant portion is dedicated to farming, particularly sheep, Overall, it is poor.

A brilliant place to have respite care after my knee replacement surgery. The staff were all very efficient, friendly and caring. The food was of a high quality and there was a wide choice of activities if you wanted to be involved. Excellent value for money.

I can recommend Middleton Hall Retirement Village without any hesitation. My mother was a resident for 6 years including during the covid pandemic. The staff are exceptionally friendly, helpful and professional and the rooms and facilities are first rate; including excellent catering. The care given
to my mother was loving and empathetic; the staff became her second family.

I feel very much at home living here. All the staff are very kind and helpful and a pleasure to know and always willing help in what ever way they are able. My family helped me to find this excellent new home, an excellent choice with lovely grounds and chance of fresh air.

I am so glad we found Middleton Hall for Mum's retirement home. The last years of her life were the very best they could have been. I cannot thank the staff and management enough for they help and support from our 1st enquiries to Mum's final days. Mum would always say how wonderful the carers
were, nothing was too much trouble for them. They are always cheerful, attentive and willing to help. Mum set a high bar for the type of accomadation she wanted, Middleton Hall not only met but exceeded her and my expectations.
Mum enjoyed her trips out and loved being involved in the many and varied activities.
I cannot fault any aspect of the organisation, it is truely exemplary.

What a beautiful place. From the initial phone call to enquire and then a look around before our relative going to stay as respite for a few weeks whilst a more permanent home was sorted, the whole process was dealt with care and compassion and gave us reassurance that our loved one was in the best
place. The team from managers to domestic were so very supportive, understanding and caring and we couldn't have wished for a nicer place to look after our loved one. The establishment is very clean, smells fresh, is bright and airy with lovely little areas to meet and chat or read a book. The rooms are very spacious and are equipped to meet all needs should it be required. The meals are excellent and presented beautifully. On top of that is the health suite with a pool and gym with personalised programmes created along with an art studio and library not forgetting the bistro which is the central hub of the village for family and friends to meet in a lovely warm and welcoming environment.

My mother spent the last four and a half years of her life at Middleton Hall. There are no words to describe how wonderful the care was, consistently, throughout that period. Mum arrived in a confused and upset state due to vascular dementia. The staff worked carefully with her to take away the
worry and distress she displayed when she first came. They made sure she had a regular routine which started with her being washed and showered every morning so she looked well despite her advancing dementia. Staff worked with her to engage her in activities that she was capable of enjoying, particularly singing and music. As mum's dementia tightened its grip, she was moved the Heartwood House where high levels of staffing made sure she felt loved and cared for as she lost her ability to talk and interact with people. The level of compassion and patience was outstanding. I cannot thank staff enough for their exceptionally good care and kindness

I really enjoyed my respite stay everyone was helpful and friendly. I went to all available activities and was made welcome in all the classes. As I intend to live to a hundred afraid I haven't that much money so no doubt would end in the workhouse!

This is the most caring retirement village I know. No resident need be ever lonely. Illness isn't a problem, if family are unavailable a carer will always accompany a resident to the doctors or hospital. All the carers put themselves out to make us feel safe.

My Mum lived in Middleton Oaks for nearly two years and I cannot speak highly enough of the wonderful care she received from all who helped to look after. I knew that I had found the very best place for her to live where she was happy, felt safe and well looked after. She had a lovely room and
enjoyed the beautiful grounds.
The staffing was very consistent and all staff well trained. They all knew Mum really well and helped her to take part in the activities she most enjoyed. Respect was always shown for individual likes, dislikes and characteristics. Dementia made life difficult for Mum but all the staff were kind, patient and expert at helping her feel more relaxed. She was always looked after with loving care and compassion.
As my Mum's health deteriorated the staff ensured she had the medical care she needed. Nothing was too much trouble in ensuring she was comfortable and as peaceful as possible. They were always a huge support to me and particularly during Mum's last few weeks.

The care my mum received in her last few months at Middleton Hall was second to none. The home is immaculately clean. The decor up beat, modern and comfortable. The care staff are of the highest professional standard and just as importantly they were all so caring and compassionate with my mum until
the end. My mum was so happy and content there and knowing she was safe and loved and well cared for was everything to me. The care staff responded calmly and so quickly when she was at end of life. They ensured that she was kept comfortable throughout and had dignity at her most vulnerable time. They were also incredibly supportive to the family and helped us through a very difficult journey of saying goodbye to our lovely mum

Middleton Hall all staff work together. Like cogs on a clock or wheel. Everyone is treated with dignity. It is tranquility in abundance, and care. It is like a haven of peace, tranquility in abundance. I have had a wonderful staff and look forward to my next stay, as a visitor or to stay.

I think a welcome pack would be helpful with the number of reception, gym & hairdresser & podiatrist. Also to have a list of activities left in the room. We were told there would be name tabs to stick on articles for washing. These haven't materialised. The carers are AMAZING, nothing is too much
trouble. They are making the holiday for me.
Plenty of activities to chose from, impressive. Thank you

Both parents spent a couple of months of needed Respite Care at Middleton Hall. Although together, they lived in separate Care Areas because of differing needs. For us the communication between Care Staff at all levels in both areas
was so helpful as there was so much to continuously communicate.
Similarly the Reception Staff dealt with all issues so courteously and the Accounts Dept were clear and efficient handling queries etc. This all helped my parents have the restful stay they needed, and importantly helped us to cope with everything and concentrate on them.
So turning to their care, the accommodation is spotless and the facilities, gardens etc adding much more to the enjoyment of the place. Involvement depends on what residents can manage and so inevitably there are quiet days ahead. This is where the empathy and professionalism of the Carers was delivered with knowledge of our parents needs and situations. It's taken a while to post this but with genuine reflection and thanks.

My husband's type of dementia makes him quite challenging to deal with. The staff at MH constantly bend over backwards in their efforts to make him happy. Nothing is too much trouble.
They are constantly observing his moods and behaviour and respond with great sensitivity and compassion. They try
to encourage and help him to engage with the many activities.
I have also been impressed by how much support the staff have also offered to us, the family. Can't speak highly enough of them, truly impressive.

Four years ago my brother in law on his death bed told me that my sister had dementia and would need caring for. The problem was that I lived in the North East and they lived in the North West and as I lived in a one bedroom bungalow there was no way that she could live with my wife and I so a care
home was the only solution. We looked at a number of homes around where she lived but none looked suitable enough so we looked at homes in the North East witch would suite us more as could visit her more often. After looking at a dozen or more we finally settled on Middleton Hall Retirement Village as they had a unit specifically for people suffering with dementia. The care and support my sister received was second to none, The carers and all the staff were friendly and treated my sister as if she was a member of their own family. wherever we went they knew my sister and I cannot thank the staff and everyone who works there enough.

Mum was wonderfully cared for, couldn't have asked for anymore. She was very happy in her three and a half years she spent here. It gave her the independence she would have wanted. She was surrounded by what she has always known,; the beautiful countryside and made her final years very special.
Thank you to all staff and management at the Oaks.

The care my stepmother received was excellent. The staff are kind and caring, treating their residents as individuals. We were kept informed of any changes etc., especially towards the end. The staff are always pleasant and friendly. The establishment is well run. In each section my stepmother
lived in the care was the best there is.
