Middleton Hall Retirement Village is an award-winning, purpose-built community. It offers independent living apartments and bungalows to purchase and rent, as well as residential and nursing care accommodation.

Independent people choose from properties at The Waterside and Middleton Woods. Middleton Grove has apartments for those who are largely independent but prefer support if they need it, eg. housekeeping and dining services.

Middleton Court is a purpose-built nursing facility, with a high staff to resident ratio delivering the highest standards of specialist, nursing and palliative care.

Middleton Gardens offers two types of residential care in superior quality, en-suite rooms where people are supported by friendly, trained carers.

Middleton Oaks is a residential care facility where small groups of up to 8 people live in a household. This is suitable for those who wish to live as independently as possible but who require a high level of support. Often, they are living with dementia. There are two households in Middleton Oaks, linked by a beautiful ‘Winter garden’. Each has its own kitchen-dining room and residents are supported in carrying out day-to-day tasks if they want, such as laundry, meal preparation and gardening.

Residents, their families and friends, and staff all enjoy excellent community facilities. They may dine in The Restaurant and The Orangery café (with shop) where traditional and modern menus are available. Regular theme nights are a highlight for many.

Middleton Spa is a wonderful, central hub with a gym and studio, pool, jacuzzi and therapy rooms. Healthy Living Advisors assist with advice about using the facilities, undertake one-to-one sessions and are trained to use the pool hoist.

Within the extensive grounds, there is also a bird hide, allotments and a sports green with a pavilion for bowling, boules, table tennis, croquet.

The Review Score of 9.3 (maximum of 10) for Middleton Hall Retirement Village is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 13 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Middleton Hall Retirement Village in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.891 for Middleton Hall Retirement Village is calculated as follows: ( (141 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 156 Ratings = 4.891

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.376 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Middleton Hall Retirement Village is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 18.6 positive Reviews (93 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 7 Reviews ÷ 18.6 Target = 0.376

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

A pleasant 9 day stay. The smiling, happy staff helped in every way to fulfil all my requirements. The chefs and all serving staff gave me every satisfaction to cook me 1st class meals appropriate for my inability to chew. Every request was dealt with speedily to my satisfaction.

The room was excellent, possibly a new mattress would make the bed more comfortable. I would like to have more than one art class a week for my next visit in December.

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback. We look forward to seeing you again in December.

All services were excellent, staff very pleasant and courteous. There were daily activities to be free to join in and other residents I met were friendly and welcoming.
I would have no hesitation in going to this home again!
Excellent all round, I can't say more!
P.S. I forgot to mention the beautiful gardens surrounding the hall, with plenty of seating to use!

Thank you. Hope to see you again soon!

The nursing home facility at Middleton Hall is superb. My father has been a resident for 4 months and everyone involved in his care has done their utmost to ensure that he is comfortable and content. His personal care is tailored to take account of his medical conditions and what he told the Middleton Nurse he wanted when he first went to the home - a friendly and customer focused facility. The staff know my father well and now know me (as an occasional visitor). The icing on the cake is that his health has improved week by week.

Thank you for taking the time to respond, with some useful detail. It is wonderful to see the positive benefit to your father's health.

I have visited my mother several times and always find Middleton Hall (The Grove) friendly and efficient.
I would recommend to anyone who needed this type of care.

Although I was apprehensive at the stay, this proved to be totally unfounded and I was taken care of exceptionally well. The staff and residents were friendly and very caring.
I had the ability to have company or be alone as and when I wished. My short stay encouraged me to relish my future stay in October for one month.

This is my second visit for respite care and now I am unable to travel alone, and do not see the point of going to hotels to sit and watch TV all day. I hope to visit yearly, in place of an annual holiday. The hall is immaculate and provides a homely, although luxurious environment.
Nothing seems too much trouble for the cheerful, efficient staff and a first rate chef. The grounds are extensive and all provide suitable walks for those not so active as they once were. I have had a lot to do with care homes, for both family and career reasons. Middleton Hall is by far the best I've come across.

It was a pleasure to have the company of Mrs Pape and we look forward to seeing her on a regular basis.

My mother has been a resident of the small (8 people) family unit for the past 4 years. Her vascular dementia has progressed so from being mobile and able to communicate when she first lived here, she now does not communicate coherently and is not mobile. In that time the dedicated team of carers have patiently dealt with all these changes, never has she been distressed, she is content and they understand her moods and needs probably better than we do now. All residents are encouraged to join in all activities adapted to their abilities, many of them take part in household tasks as well as physical activities. Their motto is living well with dementia and they certainly do that. The staff in the unit are truly dedicated to their happiness and well-being at all times.

My mother lived in Knaresborough with my father in a retirement home complex. After my father's death mum had no motivation and lost the will to live, she "couldn't be bothered"! We persuaded her to have a two-week respite stay in Middleton Hall and she settled well. The village is ten minutes from where I live so I see her almost every day but really that is not necessary. She is encouraged to live, keep her mind alert, has excellent food and the staff treat her and me as "family". There will be no difficulty in decided where I will move to.... Middleton Hall.

We are glad that your mother came to Middleton Hall. She is involved in many of our activities and participates greatly to the community here.

Staff spent a lot of time with my sister and myself to listen to our concerns about mum. The staff had their own observations about mum. The staff slowly but surely devised a plan of action and care to help ensure mum would be comfortable in herself and also to ensure mum received the most appropriate care.

Without exception, the staff at 'Middleton Hall Retirement Village' are outstanding. They took care of my Dad on the last few days with gentleness and dignity. Now they are taking care of my Mum as she progresses with Dementia. Their focus is her wellbeing, health and happiness. Although I am very distressed to see my mum on this journey, I am eternally grateful that she is in the care of the exceptional staff at 'Middleton Hall Retirement Village', which is, an exceptional facility with superb services and amenities.
