My mother visited Middleton Grove independent living apartments for a short stay to help her decide whether she would like to move there permanently. She loved it so much, she decided she didn't want to return home and is now permanently installed in a beautiful apartment with all her own furniture
and belongings around her. The concept of independent living with care support on hand at all times is quite unique in this part of the UK and enables the very elderly to live life to the full. We have been truly delighted with the quality of the accommodation and the beautiful grounds as well as the quality of the food and cannot rate highly enough the way staff support and treat the residents with great respect and care. Mam is so very happy - everything she needs is attended to with a smile and most of all she has companionship and the support she needs to enjoy her final years. We cannot fault anything - with the added reassurance of proactive help at hand at all times.

I stayed in the Grove for a one-week stay to try before deciding if I wanted to buy. I have been very impressed with the whole set-up, from everybody being so friendly and welcoming to all the activities, and the cleanliness is top class. The staff are amazing. I feel you would never feel lonely - always
have someone to talk to and help. Thank you so very much.

I enjoyed my stay at Middleton Hall, the staff were very helpful and caring. They were very accommodating, I had my breakfast in my room every day and ate in the dinning rooms for other meals. The café was really nice when I had visitors (to take them to).

As you turn into the driveway, you can be forgiven for thinking that you are entering a National Trust property. The Middleton Hall acorn logo is very like that of the National Trust and the beautiful gardens are certainly worthy of National Trust status. On fair weather days, many residents of Middleton
Hall are out walking the pretty pathways, visiting the fountained pond with its ornamental carp, checking out the allotments, or else feeding the very happy hens. Middleton Hall is an exceptional place. It is a well-run unit, an employee-owned business. The level of care is reflected in this joint possession. My mother-in-law, who moved into Middleton Hall Oaks last year, a section classed as assisted living, constantly observes that “this is such a nice place to be”. She is treated with respect and camaraderie. She has a wealth of things to do, is taken out on trips (recently re-introduced) she can take her strong, sweet coffee in to the airy Orangery at Middleton Hall Grove. We reckon that it’s a good as it gets when you are just 93.
Reply from Oliver Welham, Marketing Assistant at Middleton Hall Retirement VillageThank you for taking the time to leave this lovely review. I highly recommend Middleton Hall for its extensive facilities and above all, the welcoming atmosphere throughout.
My mother has complex needs and the team of friendly staff do their utmost to provide high quality care and, very importantly, to maintain her dignity. Moving there was a step that she
was anxious about taking but it has proved the best decision all round. Thank you.

My mother spent the final 20 months of her life at Middleton Hall in both residential and palliative care. At all times she was safe, treated with dignity and care. The advent of the pandemic could have been very stressful if she had not been so well looked after, visitor pods were introduced very quickly
so that family members could continue to visit. Thank you to everyone who lives and works at Middleton Hall.

Nothing too much trouble.
Lovely room and excellent food.

Middleton Hall is a special place. Our family is fortunate that it was my mother's home for the last 5 years of her life as her dementia progressed, until her death in May this year. Through this whole period, despite the ups and downs of the dementia journey, she received the most wonderful support
and care from everyone at Middleton Hall. This came mostly from the outstanding staff in Family Living / Middleton Oaks; but many others made major contributions including reception staff, Orangery staff, gardeners, the staff of other services and the residents. Together they all make Middleton Hall a real community where there is mutual respect, support and a good deal of happiness. The management were ambitious and innovative both in terms of developing their care for my mother as an individual, but also for residents with dementia in general e.g. building the Middleton Oaks facility. Middleton Hall deserves all the recognition it receives if only all care homes were like this.

Mum has been resident at Middleton Hall for five years, initially in The Woods apartments and now in Family Living for the past two years. Her experiences in both parts of the retirement village have been wonderful, and the transition from one to the other was facilitated and handled with exceptional
professionalism, care and kindness from all staff involved. Her dementia has progressed quite significantly, but she receives personalised, one on one care, being kept as happy as possible, safe, well fed and as healthy as her condition allows. The staff is, without exception, incredible, each person unique but with a very special blend of kindness, gentleness and competence. Mum could be in no better place than Middleton Hall. I can’t speak highly enough of it.

The staff are extremely friendly, competent and committed to providing high-quality care.
Both my parents moved into Middleton Oaks, a purpose-built family unit providing appropriate support for people suffering from conditions such as dementia, at the beginning of 2018.
Although my mother's behaviour
became very challenging towards the end, the staff always treated her with respect and compassion when caring for her until her death last November.
My father still lives there and it is ideal as there are expansive grounds for walking. He goes out on trips twice weekly and is engaged with other activities.

When faced with difficult decisions regarding the future care of my father, I had a clear idea of what I wanted for him and what he absolutely deserved after all he has done for us: a safe elegant space where he is encouraged to keep well physically and nurtured in his spirit with kind people about
him who see their work as a vocation and a privilege. I feel I have found that at Middleton Hall. From the very first day, he was greeted by name throughout the complex and welcomed into every aspect of his new life. The care staff and managers work as one and spend their time and imagination in developing new ways to engage my father’s intellect and to help him to forge new friendships. We are all encouraged to be part of his new ‘second’ family and we visit whenever we like, although sometimes he can barely fit us in!!. His great-grandchildren are enthusiastically welcomed with toys and a trip to feed the chickens. My father thanks me every day for his new home and that gives me peace.

We were lucky to find Middleton Hall when my 85-year-old mother needed a couple of weeks respite after a spell of hospitalisation. After visiting other care homes in the region I was instantly impressed driving up through the grounds to reception. The facility resembled a country house hotel with its
orangery bistro, restaurant, spa and pool.
My mother checked in to Middleton Hall in a wheelchair with no energy or appetite and walked out two weeks later a different lady. The quality of care she received during her stay was excellent and the attitude of all the staff from management to room cleaners was first class. My mum was initially reluctant to go into respite, but she is already talking about going back later in the year for another "holiday".
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Middleton Hall to anyone looking for quality care for their loved ones.

Having recently had a bad experience in a previous care home it was with some trepidation that we placed Mum here. From our initial visit, we were very impressed with the staff's professional but friendly approach. There is a lovely warm atmosphere with a sense of calm. The facilities are second to
none. It was lovely to be able to have a meal with Mum in the orangery, the food was delicious with a varied choice for residents and guests. I felt we had put Mum in a lovely country home for the weekend and felt assured of her safety.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Middleton Hall to anyone, in fact, we've taken brochures for some family friends. Overall, this has been a lovely experience for us all.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.799)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.799) out of 10 for Middleton Hall Retirement Village is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.799 for Middleton Hall Retirement Village is calculated as follows: ( (286 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 333 Ratings = 4.799
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Middleton Hall Retirement Village is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 90 registered maximum number of service users is 18, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Care Director Joined: 2021

I was honoured and excited to be join the team at Middleton Hall Retirement Village as their Care Director on March 1st 2021. With this role, comes the opportunity to shape, develop and influence how Middleton Hall’s care services move forward and fully believe in the vision and values that have been established.

One of the exciting things is that this is a completely new role at Middleton Hall and I am planning to use my knowledge and experience to add value to the important services that we provide to our residents and families as well as our care teams.

Having initially qualified as a Registered Nurse, I have spent all my career predominantly in the private healthcare sector working with some local smaller companies, as well as larger national care providers. During this time, I have developed my managerial and leadership skills working in different roles within the sector, from Care Home Manager, Regional Director and Operations Director, before joining Middleton Hall.

As Care Director at Middleton Hall, I am responsible for providing clinical and some operational leadership and with the support of the Co-owner team, am focused on Middleton Hall being established as a provider of high-quality care and wellbeing and developing a motivated and engaged care services team.

In my spare time, I enjoy watching all types of sports, particularly rugby and trying to play a bit of golf.

Job Title: Head of Care and Quality - Registered Manager Joined: 2000

Debby qualified as a nurse in 1984 and spent the early part of her career working for the NHS (older people, accident and emergency and surgical). Debby then moved into the private sector and worked in a private hospital in Grimsby, working on surgical wards and managing occupational health, whilst also working part-time as a tutor at the local college. Training has always remained an important part of her role now.

Throughout her career, Debby always admired older people because of their life stories that make that person unique. A passion she still holds today.

Debby is interested in holistic medicine and qualified in Reiki as well as Indian Head & Swedish Body Massage. Whilst at Middleton Hall, she achieved a first-class honours degree in dementia studies.

She built on this with further dementia training by becoming a Positive Approach to Care (PAC) trainer with Teepa Snow.

Debby enjoys the variety of her role - every day at Middleton Hall Retirement Village is different. Teamwork is essential as everyone has a role to play in making a difference to the lives of older people and supporting them to live their best lives

What makes working at Middleton Hall worthwhile? When you see a special moment between a member of staff and a resident when they really connect.
