I wanted to send my heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at Barford Court. As a family, we were apprehensive about the prospect of Dad needing additional care. But from the moment we saw BC, it became our home too. My young children called it "Pop's Hotel" - they could see that it was a haven for him. As Dad's health declined and we knew the end was near, you opened your home and your hearts to us even more. The last four days of Dad's life was spent by his bedside: reminiscing, listening to music, crying and laughing. We were able to surround him with the love he had so selflessly shown us all our lives. You gave the five of us, the space and freedom to be with him however we needed to be. EVERY member of staff here showed us such care, reassurance and guidance. Most importantly, we could see how much Dad meant to you all. You cared for Dad with dignity and love. THANK YOU
My mother moved into Barford Court at the end of February following a period of reduced mobility meaning at age 95 she could no longer live in her own home. She was fiercely independent and this was a huge move for her however the way in which she was welcomed, supported and cared for during what became the last four months of her life was exemplary. Everyone from the team leaders to the amazing carers, admin team and those cleaning/doing the laundry are professional, dedicated and caring and supported my mother in a very light touch /maximum care way that was pitched perfectly. As gradually more support was needed they were there every step of the way and since I visited almost every day I saw the home in all its guises and every one of them was excellent in terms of the care provided and their thoughtfulness at difficult times. I could not recommend Barford Court and their fabulous team more highly and will be forever grateful for everything they did for my mother.
Our father has resided at Barford Court for 2 years, the home is well run, welcoming and spacious, with lovely gardens. There is good continuity of staff and all staff are kind caring and responsive to our father's and everyone's needs, treating all with respect and dignity. The activity programme is varied and thoughtful, with outdoor outings included. The housekeeping team do a great job keeping the home and laundry clean and the catering team provide a variety of food which Dad enjoys. Thank you everyone at Barford Court.
Barford Court is clean, spacious and well maintained in a grand Art deco building on the seafront, wrapped around with gardens in a convenient central Hove location. There are lots of facility's for the residents to enjoying. My mother is reviving good care tailored to her needs as her condition progresses. It's has taken weight of my mind knowing she is in good hands and a big thank you to all staff at Barford Court for their support with the demands of a loved one with Alzheimer's.
We were so happy with how the staff at Barford Court helped celebrate our mother's birthday. They displayed photos from her home town, set up a personalised birthday banner , made her favourite cake and enabled us as a family to celebrate with her.
Throughout the process from initial assessment to trial stay, and moving to permanent, the team at Barford Court have been amazing. They helped to remove any concerns regarding level of care and financial aspects. Whenever we visit there is always assistance and supervision on hand, and always a schedule of activities lined up. Such a weight off of the family's mind. Thank you very much.
It was my mum's birthday. The staff went to great lengths to ensure she had a cake, gift and celebration. Additionally, another residents birthday was celebrated and valentines day. The chef's made two individual birthday cakes plus valentine's cupcakes. There was a musical entertainer there and the atmosphere was fabulous. A significant transformation from 2 years ago. Thank you!
Barford Court has welcomed my father into the home with kindness and respect. They have been responsive to his individual needs and wishes. He has spent a lot of time alone in his own home prior to admission and they are giving him the time and space to adjust to life with people around him. They listen to his requests and they will do their best to help him feel like he has been heard. Thank you so much.
Our Mum arrived in July 24 undernourished and very poorly, having undergone a series of falls at her home over the previous months. Since becoming a resident at BC her health has improved significantly, she's put on weight and those falls have become a distant memory. Mum enjoys the activities laid on and the company of other residents and staff, who always have time for her. A very well-run friendly home, the manager and his team of professionals have made a world of difference, our Mum has made friends here, among both residents & staff and is flourishing. We feel lucky to have found Barford Court, and have great peace of mind knowing Mum's being cared for round-the-clock. Thankyou
Mum has been at Barford Court for over two years. She is very comfortable, well looked after, enjoys the activities and is well fed. Staff are very proactive and know my Mum very well, adapting their support to her specific needs and wishes. They also keep me well informed and are always available to discuss her care. For me, this also gives me peace of mind.
Dad has now been a resident in Barford Court for over four years. He is so much happier than he was in his previous care home. The staff are so friendly and helpful and look after Dad so well. There is so much space in Barford Court that residents can join in with activities and socialise with other residents or find a quiet spot to relax if they prefer. There are always activities going on for the residents to do, if they want to get involved, as well as trips out for them to have a change of scenery and to get out in the fresh air. The quality of food is very good.
Mum has been a resident at Barford Court for over a year. She is so well cared for here, in many ways I have seen improvement, the staff always make sure that she enjoys being bathed, hair done, dressed nicely and eats meals with them together as friends, helping too when needed. Such basic care needs really you would think but with the extra positive attitude and training of the staff at Barford Court, they do these daily activities with so much care and respect. It is very important for the residents to enjoy these things together, as part of enhancing their daily life. Maintaining the skills of the residents for as long as possible, staff show such dignity and respect towards them, especially the company and friendship is so very important. When visiting Mum, everyone is so welcoming and friendly, "Hello, how are you?", are words I hear constantly around the home, to residents and visitors. Thank you.
The staff at Barford Court are always very kind and helpful, always make time to listen to any concerns we have and my Dad is very settled there. He enjoys the food and always enjoys tea and cake in the afternoon.
My mother has been a resident at Barford Court since 2017. During this time, I have never had cause to complain about her care. In a recent review that I helped her complete, she said that she is 'very happy' living at Barford Court, that the carers are 'kind' and supportive of her needs while also being respectful of her desire for privacy. As a regular visitor, I sometimes join in with the weekly activities and chat to staff and other residents. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and I can see that everyone is well looked after. Over the years, I have had no hesitation in recommending Barford Court to friends whose loved ones have also enjoyed living there.
My sister is a resident at Barford Court, she has Parkinson's and Louis body dementia, she is very poorly. The love and care she receives from all the staff at Barford Court is fantastic. She needs her medication administered at exact times, and this is done by the team. Her quality of life is sadly deteriorating, however, the staff give her the very best care and make her stay there, as comfortable as possible. It's so reassuring for our family to know she is safe, cared for and loved by all at Barford Court. We couldn't wish for her to be in a better place, our thanks go to all the staff at Barford Court.
My mother has been resident at Barford Court for over four years. During this time her mental health has sadly and inevitably deteriorated, but her physical health has improved. This, we attribute to the focus on my mother's welfare, which has been evident throughout all this time. As a family, we are reassured by all the activities in which our mother is encouraged to engage and the willingness of staff to discuss and report on all our mother's needs and health.
My wife and I saw my aunt and noted how comfortable she was and how well she looked, with hair nicely done. She was in her room resting as she had a reaction to a flu jab the day before. We had a pleasant meeting with the manager where all our questions were fully and confidently answered. We remarked on how every member of staff we met had a smile and a cheerful word of greeting. My aunt's day was varied as her carer got her up and to lunch and brought her down to the pavilion where we sat and had good conversation with her and one of the other residents. We liked the bright new look after recent redecoration.
My mum has been a resident for just over a year. Welcomed into Barford Court family on arrival, the care is exceptional, and Mum has been so happy here. Mum loves to dance and mix with other people,w which happens frequently. All staff are approachable and friendly, delivering good, individual care.
Barford Court has the potential to be an amazing care home for residents. It is a beautiful building and has lovely and caring staff but would benefit from stronger leadership from the management (not team leaders) and a more holistic training programme for staff. In addition, I think the activity programme needs to be improved with more musical activities and entertainment. However, I am very optimistic that the new manager will provide this as he gets to grips with his new role and introduces a listening and learning culture. Indeed I am very pleased that he has begun to establish a stronger communication channel with relatives and that new activity coordinators have already been recruited.
My mum has just died at Barford Court and many friends have asked how was she cared for. Mum had dementia and was at Barford Court for 4 years, going there after she had fallen at home, and spent a month in hospital. We were very anxious about how she would react. The short answer is that we feel we were so lucky that we found Barford Court. She took part in activities, painting, baking, and best of all, visits from animals. She wasn’t too partial to the chicken visit but loved the rabbits. Dad was welcomed by the staff – and they looked after him too. All the staff are kind and thoughtful. As Mum neared the end of life, we were so touched by staff coming to show us albums of photos taken of Mum over the years. Many came and said their final goodbyes when they could've been going home after a busy shift. So, if you face the unenviable task of finding 24-hour care for anyone, you can be sure that they will be cared for at all stages of life at Barford Court.
