Reviews

9.5 Barford Court has a Review Score of 9.5 (9.458)

The Review Score of 9.5 (maximum of 10) for Barford Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 13 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Barford Court in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.583 for Barford Court is calculated as follows: ( (101 Excellents x 5) + (45 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 156 Ratings = 4.583

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barford Court is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 8 positive Reviews (40 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 7 Reviews ÷ 8 Target = 0.875

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I am extremely grateful to the management and staff at Barford Court for looking after my mother so well. I have no concerns for her safety and I feel that she is being cared for extremely well on both a physical and emotional level. Support is available at every moment of the day and she has been made to feel wanted and welcome. The staff have done everything possible to make a difficult transition from home to care as stress-free and comfortable as possible.

Our father spent 9 months in the Henry Cottrell Unit at Barford Court and we cannot praise everyone involved highly enough. The Managers are caring and empathetic and the quality of the care staff is extremely high.

Dad was treated with compassion, kindness, respect and dignity at all times. We always felt comfortable that he was in safe, caring hands. Between us, we spent several days, (24/7) on the Unit and can honestly say there was never anything we felt uncomfortable about.

As a family, we were treated with such kindness. The support we were given initially by the business team when applying for a place at Barford Court was second to none - at a time when dealing with local authorities and social service departments was extremely stressful.

We can only say a huge thank you to all the staff at Barford Court for making our Dad's life the best it could be under very difficult circumstances. You did him proud.

My Mother who recently passed away was a resident in the Dementia wing for nearly two years. I have spent many, many hours visiting and just being on the wing and seeing how all the carers and support staff interact with the residents. Initially, I was surprised to see that my mum actually improved in physical and mental health within the first few months of moving to Barford Court, despite previously having had 24/7 care in her own home. The staff are kind and supportive of individual resident needs, they have a professional non-confrontational way of dealing with the different characters, that avoids potentially difficult situations from developing. I have marked Barford Court high on all of the evaluation criteria, if I had to find something negative to say to make this review more balanced I would mention that the Dementia wing is on the first floor, so you have to use the lift to get to access the garden and sadly this quality of care isn't available to everyone who needs it.

My 96-year-old mother has been a resident at Barford Court for 3 years to date. Prior to her arrival, my mother was neglecting to look after herself despite having twice daily care at home. She is now physically well for her age and having lunch in the small communal dining room encourages her to eat. The carers at Barford Court are unfailingly kind, friendly and helpful and after requesting a review of my mother's care I am hopeful that - due to her failing mental capacity - she will be given the assistance she now requires with day to day self-care and guidance with personal hygiene and dressing.

An excellent facility. Sensitive staff. Have been very happy that both my parents have been able to reside at Barford Court.
The home is very welcoming to visiting friends and relatives.
If I ever need residential care, Barford Court would be highly acceptable.

The design of the building restricts some upgrades but the care delivered to my father is outstanding. The current management team are very actively involved with the managing of the care and support both to residents and staff. I am confident the team caring for my dad respect and give him the dignity everyone deserves at all times.

Deidre Johnson, Home Manager at Barford Court responded to this review on 17 Oct 2017:

Dear Sandra,

Thank you for your kind words. We are working hard on improving wherever we can. We are currently looking at creative ways to engage with people on our dementia house, through utilising our Day Service Staff where possible.

I had a certain amount of apprehension before arriving at Barford Court as I knew it would be a way of life which was alien to myself. I am pleased to say that I have settled down well at the home and am grateful for the help and kindness I have received. I think, however, that it would be acceptable and professional if a uniform was worn by the staff to denote everyone's position and role in the home. This is not to say that the service provided by the staff is the poorer because of the absence of a distinct uniform, far from this.

Deirdre Johnson, Home Manager at Barford Court responded to this review on 26 May 2017:

Sometime in 2013, the decision was made that staff would no longer be required to wear a uniform, however, this is not an organisational wide policy so we will review the current situation by way of a questionnaire.

This home has a great atmosphere and is homely and comfortable. The staff are happy to help relatives and friends as well as residents and are very caring. There is generally a lively feel of the place and I get the impression the residents have a lot of fun. Recommend.
