My husband has Alzheimer's and did not settle in the first home he resided in. He moved to Barford Court in February and the change in his behaviour has been remarkable. He is an artist and Barford Court encourage him to pursue his interest and that has made him much happier. He also appreciates the amount of space there is at the Home and the lovely gardens. I am now content that I can trust the Home to give him the best care possible. The food is very good and the outings have been good for him. I would like to thank all the staff for making my husband happier than he has been for a long time and looking after him so well I no longer need to worry about him every day.

My father is 92 years old and always told me he never wanted to go into a Care Home. However, last December it became obvious that he could no longer live on his own and he agreed that Barford Court was the best place for him to spend his last years. He has never regretted it and always tells me how happy he is there. The relief to me is immeasurable to know he is happy and content. The staff are amazing - so kind and caring. A certain member of staff greets my father every morning with a kiss on his cheek and I cannot tell you how it makes his day. Barford Court staff make old people feel special and respected. Such a difference from everyday life where only youth seems to matter. The staff constantly keep me updated about my father and the management only ever have my father’s best interests at heart. “We just want him to be happy” is their motto. Every member of staff there is so special. Thank you so much Barford Court.

I highly recommend this care home. The staff are very friendly, helpful and professional. They are always there when we need them. The food and beverages they provide are my partner's favourites. The rooms and corridors are always clean and tidy. I enjoy spending time with my partner there doing activities with the staff.

Care is not up to the standard of previous care home that closed. If anything, there may be too many carers such that they think someone else is doing it. For instance, they forgot to give dad breakfast last week. It also means that although there is a link/key carer, one of which I have never met, I am never quite sure who to approach.
Those carers who manage dad daily are very good.

The activity programme is far better than the previous home, although, events can be cancelled at short notice. For instance, dad is all ready to go out and it is cancelled.

Thank you for your review and giving us a rating of ‘good’. We are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with certain areas of service. As far as our staff are aware, the resident concerned does come to breakfast in the dining room. We are not sure how our staff forgot on one occasion, but our Home...

Lovely location and communal facilities and grounds. Rooms not big but have a pleasant outlook and are nicely appointed. Staff are caring, friendly and in general, very professional in their work. Some variation in the activities might be welcomed. Maybe ones that encourage more interaction with residents.

Many thanks for your kind comments about Barford Court’s rooms and the facilities. Currently, we are working on new activities with a newly appointed Activities Coordinator and where possible, we encourage our carers to help with arts and crafts, armchair exercises, and dancercise interaction. We...

Overall a very good care home with high standards and happy attentive staff.

Would like to see more pressure applied to support agencies, doctors, physios, to follow up on certain issues that residents may have.

Reply from Chiao Kwan, Marketing & Communications Officer at Barford Court

Thank you for taking time to write a review about Barford Court. We really appreciate your rating of ‘good’ for the overall standard of the home. Unfortunately, we do not have the power to apply pressure to community support services but we do try our best and contact them to address certain issues...

We appreciated very much being able to sit down and talk with mum over lunch, instead of visitors from a distance needing to break up the visit to go out looking for a restaurant.

The manager of Barford Court is one of the most effective we have had over 6 years. Always ready to talk and listen and supervises the running of the home and it is the manager who ensures great attention to detail is carried out. This inspires confidence in relatives like me, who have close family living permanently at Barford Court who have challenging needs for care. Nutrition has improved recently.

Our father spent 9 months in the Henry Cottrell Unit at Barford Court and we cannot praise everyone involved highly enough. The Managers are caring and empathetic and the quality of the care staff is extremely high.

Dad was treated with compassion, kindness, respect and dignity at all times. We always felt comfortable that he was in safe, caring hands. Between us, we spent several days, (24/7) on the Unit and can honestly say there was never anything we felt uncomfortable about.

As a family, we were treated with such kindness. The support we were given initially by the business team when applying for a place at Barford Court was second to none - at a time when dealing with local authorities and social service departments was extremely stressful.

We can only say a huge thank you to all the staff at Barford Court for making our Dad's life the best it could be under very difficult circumstances. You did him proud.

My Mother who recently passed away was a resident in the Dementia wing for nearly two years. I have spent many, many hours visiting and just being on the wing and seeing how all the carers and support staff interact with the residents. Initially, I was surprised to see that my mum actually improved in physical and mental health within the first few months of moving to Barford Court, despite previously having had 24/7 care in her own home. The staff are kind and supportive of individual resident needs, they have a professional non-confrontational way of dealing with the different characters, that avoids potentially difficult situations from developing. I have marked Barford Court high on all of the evaluation criteria, if I had to find something negative to say to make this review more balanced I would mention that the Dementia wing is on the first floor, so you have to use the lift to get to access the garden and sadly this quality of care isn't available to everyone who needs it.
