My mum went into this home as we were at crisis point in November 2025, initially as respite but now long term. Fantastic manager, caring staff and plenty of them. We looked at lots of homes and this one by far was the most homely. I feel confident my mum is well cared for.

My mum was discharged to Derham House from Hospital. She had 2 hospital admissions in 7 weeks from suffering TIA's & was unable to safely return home alone. It was a traumatic time for all of us as so much changed in a short period of time. My anxiety about her going into a full time care home was
quickly resolved by the care & compassion shown by all the staff from the minute she arrived there. Everyone is so friendly.
I really feel that each & every member of staff have taken the time to get to know mum & they have made her feel safe & welcome. She has settled so well & has said that she wants to stay there. It's a wonderful feeling to see her so happy. The home is spotlessly clean & extremely well run. I would have no hesitation in recommending it to friends & family.

Mum was a resident for 4 weeks from the middle of September 2025.
The nursing staff did an excellent job keeping up with the fast progression of Mum's cancer and she was seen weekly by the visiting GP.
The care staff were great and ensured Mum met her neighbours, even though she didn't leave her
room.
Mum liked the food and enjoyed looking out of her window into the gardens.
Mum was initially worried about entering a home and the staff at Derham House managed to allay Mum's fears.
The pre-assessment was professional and friendly and the thorough check-in process gave us all confidence. In the end Mum agreed to sign up as a full resident, though sadly Mum passed as respite ended. Mum received excellent care. Thanks to everyone at the home who looked after her.
The things that set Derham House apart from other places I visited:
Attentive staff, separate dementia and nursing wings, well maintained throughout, good food, green views and being on one level.

My Dad has been in care at Derham House since April 2025. Last night he was suspected to have had a TIA, the home arranged for a paramedic to examine him and they decided to take him to Hospital for a check over. The night staff phoned me and kept me up to date with what was happening. He was
escorted by a lovely carer who looks after him every night. She kept in constant contact with me. My friend who was also at the hospital (who doesn't know my Dad) told us the care & compassion showed to my Dad was lovely to see. We joined them in casualty at 1pm where we decided to bring him home as he was starting to get agitated due to his dementia. We took him along with his carer back to Derham House where we were met at the door by another night carer who put her arms around him and welcomed him home. Its very hard leaving a vulnerable family member but I can honestly say all the staff at Derham care & support my dad 100% everyday & night.
My family and I are eternally grateful.

We put my grandad in here for respite and my family and I have no complaints. We can't thank the staff enough for the care my grandad received.

My father moved to Derham House after a stroke last year. As his sole carer, I was anxious, but the staff quickly put me at ease. They treated him with real dignity, kindness and patience, and got to know him as an individual. He regularly told me he felt safe and well looked after, and it was clear
he was genuinely happy there.
The home was always clean and calm, with lovely outdoor space and thoughtful activities to keep residents engaged. As Dad's health declined, the palliative care he received was exceptional. Staff were attentive, gentle and supportive to him and to us as a family, especially in the final days.
I'm truly grateful to everyone at Derham House for the incredible care they provided my dad and the support they offered me throughout.

My Nan had to move into full time care approximately 4/5 weeks ago. The staff at Derham House are really welcoming and super friendly and the home itself is kept clean and tidy. The food and drink seems very nice. The location is lovely! Overall, we are all really pleased with the care that my Nan
is receiving. Keep up the good work.

I spent 3 weeks at Derham. Everyone was most helpful and kind as I couldn't ask for more. So thank you Derham House I would certainly recommend you.

My mum came to Derham House on respite straight from a 5 week stay in hospital. She arrived on the Monday and by the Tuesday evening, she told us she wanted to stay. Everyone was helpful, happy and made her feel that she had been living there for a long time. Nothing seemed too much trouble.
Everyone is friendly and cares.

My husband was in Derham House for respite care. As his main carer, I was extremely pleased with the care and attention he received from all the staff. I would not hesitate to book him for a further period of respite care. The atmosphere of the entire building is warm and welcoming. All staff go out
of their way to be helpful. His nurse care was as good as I could expect, with attention to keep his skin in a good condition as he has had bed sores in the past. I am sure he would not give such a glowing report as it is not home and he missed my cooking!

My father was at Barchester Derham House Care Home, Upminster for eighteen months until he, sadly, passed away recently. The entire staff in every role showed nothing but care, kindness, laughter and fun.
The entertainment and activities were exceptional, food, cleaning wonderful.
The love and
care for Dad in his last hours were amazing. Thank you.

Sadly, our father passed in November 2024. Prior to this date, he stayed in the dementia unit of Barchester Derham House Care Home for almost three years. I really cannot rate this care home highly enough. From the minute Dad stepped onto the unit, he was treated with kindness, respect and dignity.
They kept him safe through COVID and beyond.
From the reception desk to the staff on the unit, Dad was fondly regarded and when it came time for him to leave us they didn't miss a beat. I was kept constantly updated of his condition and his passing and the processes required from that point onwards were dealt with kindly and with great sensitivity. The daily activities suited our dad so well as he was such an animal lover and also loved to sing out loud - every day!
We will miss visiting him at Derham, these last years have been such a pleasure; we feel very blessed to have had this experience and could not be more grateful.

My father came to Derham House for a 4 week respite stay and became a permanent resident at the end of that as the family thought he was in the right place and was being cared for extremely well, which he was - all the staff were caring, considerate and friendly.
Unfortunately, my father passed
away just a few weeks later.
We were paid up until the end of the month and we cleared his room on the day of his passing, which left 5 days of his paid for contract left.
We have now received the 2 weeks deposit refunded, but Barchester/Derham House have deducted 2 days fee (£534) as their contract says you have 7 days to clear all possessions (and will charge even more if it goes beyond those 7 days).
As we cleared his room on day 1, we feel that 5 days fee is more than enough to cover their 'costs'.
We as a family feel that this care home company only 'care' about their bottom line and not the residents or their families.
This has left a very bitter taste in our mouths.

My father is currently in Barchester Derham House Care Home for respite care following issues with his right leg as he's unable to take care of himself and the situation was impossible for him to remain at home.
The manager and receptionist have gone over and above to help both my father and
myself for which I am very grateful. Nothing is too much trouble.

I am pleased to say that I feel very confident in knowing that my husband, who is suffering from dementia, is being taken care of in a way I could never achieve at home on my own. There is generally a happy atmosphere at Barchester Derham House Care Home and plenty of smiles. Thank you.

What a beautiful home this is. Was very anxious and apprehensive but was pleasantly surprised. Such a homely feel, rooms and decor are welcoming and modern, staff of all levels are friendly and helpful, like on big family. Would highly recommend it to anyone.

My Mum has recently joined the residents at Derham House and the staff have gone to great lengths to ensure she has settled in well. She appears very happy when I visit and has engaged in a variety of activities including a D-Day afternoon tea, a visit to the local garden centre, a visiting
entertainer, and a visiting pet. She enjoys chatting with other residents and speaks enthusiastically about the care she is given. When I visit I always feel very welcome and am told I can drop in at any time. Mealtimes are lovely and the food is of high quality. Residents sit on tables of four with plenty of interaction over the dinner table! My mum always looks well-presented and tidy and the daily routines in place are having a positive impact on her well-being.
I am extremely grateful to all staff for their kindness and care over the past few weeks.

My dad stayed for two weeks of respite care and although we were anxious as it was his first time we need not have worried. The staff were lovely and kept us fully informed even giving him a packed lunch when he attended hospital in case he missed lunch. The food was excellent, just like a hotel
with white cloths on the table. There was always a staff member in the lounge and plenty of activities going on. Christmas entertainment was put on and there were several craft activities going on. My dad was allowed to be as independent as he wanted to be and encouraged to join in. The home had a lovely atmosphere and the other residents were friendly and welcoming to my dad. We were very happy with the whole experience. Many thanks to the staff.
