We were naturally apprehensive when moving Mum into a Care home as it was so important to us for Mum to be happy and well cared for. As soon as we walked into Appleby House for our first visit we felt welcome and at ease. The atmosphere was very buzzy with amazing indoor and outdoor facilities,
happy residents and the staff we met were so friendly.
Mum has since moved in and has a lovely room with her personal bits and pieces. The staff have been so kind and caring which has helped Mum to settle in quickly and is happy, enjoying the activities and socialising.
Thank you so much.

Our Mum has been a resident at Appleby House since October 2024 and has always received first rate care from the staff. She has experienced some issues in this time that the staff have always reported in a timely and caring way. We are delighted that Mum has and continues to receive first rate care.

This is the second time that my step mother has had to move into Appleby House due to my father being unable to care for her at the time. It was without hesitation that I wanted her to move back in again. The care and compassion shown by all the staff at this home is amazing. The management team
lead by example and it is clear that all those working here have nothing but praise for how this home is run. As for the care, having had to over the years for various reasons attend a number of care homes, Appleby House is by far the best. The entire team clearly show they want to be there and look after the residents of the home, it would be hard to single out anyone, but praise has to be given to those I have seen most often doing a very hard job, Lenka, Kirsten and Zoe are absolutely amazing, but so are the rest of the team.

Appleby House is a warm and comforting place for my mum to live. All the staff are happy and welcoming from the moment you walk in. There is always something for the residents to do if they so wish. Or if they need a bit of quiet time they can get that too. It wasn't easy deciding whether to place
my mum in a care home but I feel comforted knowing she is in a safe and happy environment.

I can not express how wonderful Appleby is. My grandad has been a resident for 2 years now and it was the best decision we made. It's such a massive thing to trust other people to look after a loved one but any worry we had or doubts we were making the right decision went as soon as we walked
through the door. The home is welcoming and there is an Instant sense of warmth and reassurance you get. Leaving my grandad there I know he is cared for with love and dignity, that everything is done to make sure he is ok, safe and happy. They go above and beyond, nothing is ever too much, the staff, keyworker and management are always happy to talk and are always around if ever they were needed. I talk about how lucky we are to have found a home like Appleby to anyone that will listen! The staff genuinely care, they really are angels sent from above, you can tell this is more than just a job to them and I can not thank them enough for caring for my grandad the way they do. I appreciate them all.

i hope you allow both positive and negative reviews as it happens mine is very positive, my heart broke on the day i abandoned my lovely lady to the care of Appleby House; i felt it was the ultimate betrayal of my loving, loyal wife. it turns out it was the best move i could have made in the
circumstances, the staff have an enormously difficult job to do and ,overall, they manage it incredibly well. The management, headed by Shona and Lyn, are so approacable and open to new ideas, they work extremely long hours yet are always prepared to give one time. As many have already said, the Home has a cosy atmosphere and the staff are magnificant, the administration of medicine and medical affairs in general are tightly controlled and adhered to. there is a weekly programme of activitites a cruise ship might envy, and the Home keeps relatives aware of any changes to a residents' situation, that might arise.

My Mother was admitted to Appleby House after having spent a week in hospital having fractured her wrist. The hospital said she needed 24 hour care and could not go home without this amount of care. She had been living in her own home with Carer's coming in twice a day but this was proving to be
inadequate so her fractured wrist proved to be the catalyst. I knew my Mother did not want to go into a home and it was a difficult and emotional decision to have to make. However, my Mother seems to have settled in happily to Appleby House now. There is so much going on, she has good food three times a day, companionship and stimulation. The staff are really kind and understanding and have been truly supportive to me as well as to my Mother. I couldn't ask for more. I feel that I can go in and visit at any time and spend quality time with her as her daughter rather than be constantly worrying about her safety and welfare when she was in her own home.

I had been concerned for my Nan's health and where she would end up as her dementia progressed but I have been given peace of mind with her moving to Appleby.
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and ensure you leave in a positive spirit.

My mum has alzheimer's and came to the stage where she could not live at home alone..
We chose Applebey house for the great reviews when we first visited, we found it very bright airy and very cheerful we found the staff very pleasant and attentive, caring and also willing to talk to us about our
feelings.
we have attended some functions and I had a wonderful time seeing Mum singing and dancing and enjoying herself.Seeing Mum in a Home is not the easiest thing to take, but I do believe that her being in Applebey house will be the best care for her going forward. and I can move on knowing Mum is cared for in a place that will give her the best care and individual attention she requires..

My Mum moved to Appleby House Care Home in April 2025. She has Alzheimer's and Mixed Dementia. All of the care staff have been so welcoming, they are so friendly and helpful. The manager and Assistant Manager have been amazing. One of the really encouraging things for me is how long some of the team
have worked there. Some have been there 20 years plus. I visit almost every day and so can see that the care home is very well managed. Mum isn't the most sociable of people, and so prefers to stay in her room, which is happily accommodated. It's very easy to see why this care home is rated outstanding.

I have been so impressed with how my uncle has been looked after by all at the Home.
He came in for respite and was in a very sad place.
When he had the opportunity to become a permanent resident we were so pleased he chose to stay.
He has gone from a frail 94 year old who was not eating, always
in bed and did not communicate. To the smiling, chatty and laughing uncle we all knew.
This is a testament to the patience, knowledge, kindness and charisma of all who work with him.
This has saved his life and completely taken our worries away.
I can not thank you all enough.

My mum has been at Appleby House for 2 months now. From the moment we entered the door we felt the warmth of the care team as they all rallied around to make Mum and us feel comfortable and welcome. We are very happy with the care that mum receives and feel that mum is in a very safe environment
where she can feel included. Mum participates in all the activities available and we, her children, also feel included and kept up to date of everything she does. Thank you to all the team for looking after our Mum xx

My elderly relative has been in Appleby for approximately 2years and as we live in the opposite end of the country it's difficult to get to see her so we rely on the staff to look after her. She's obviously very happy as we have tried to get her to move down to Devon where she would be able to have
more visitors and we would be able to do more for her, but she refuses to move. The staff and management are so helpful whenever we contact them for help they just make our request possible. On her 100th birthday the staff arranged a wonderful party for which she and us really enjoyed. They also arranged for her to visit the Natural History Museum which is something she wanted to do, although she backed out at the last minute and everyone was disappointed. Time is given to listen to her and they try to give her what she wants. Also we are kept informed by management on her needs.

which shows they care.
There is always some activity for the residents to participate .
In the entrance hall there is always some new colourful art work to greet you.
We know aunty is well cared for and safe which is really important as we live some distance away .
Thanks you to all the staff at Appleby House

Our Mom has been at Appleby House for 2 months and all the staff have been so kind and caring to her, answering any questions we have. We were all worried about our Mom not settling, and at first she was asking to come home, but after the first month she has not asked to come home and seems to have
accepted being there. We feel this is due to how caring everyone is, not only the individual carers but all the management and staff. Appleby has a homely feel and is kept very clean with lots of colourful artwork on the walls. Our mum looks forward to meal times and the chef has even made special spicy foods for her which she enjoys. They have an excellent daily activities programme and it is reassuring to us that Mum joins in most of them , and the staff will come and find her and encourage her to join and ensure she is included. Based on the first 2 months we feel that our mum is in a safe and very caring environment and thank the staff for all their support.

Care UK do a fantastic job of looking after my Father who is very happy in Appleby House. All the staff are great and always have time for a chat with both my Father and myself despite often being under pressure and working in some trying circumstances sometimes! Most of them can make an excellent
cup of coffee too!

Since my sister has been a resident at Appleby House she has not been happier. The management & staff go above the normal to make her & all us relatives feel so welcome & at ease when we visit. The food & facility are amazing & nothing is to much trouble. As a family it is the best thing we
ever done for her. As the management & staff really care about her & her family too.. Wouldn't want her to be anywhere else to be totally honest.

Appleby has given my aunt a new lease of life. Throughout her life my aunt had always been very busy, always planning the next thing, and at Appleby, she has been enabled to become that person again.
Wellbeing at Appleby is every bit as important as physical health, I love logging in to the app
and seeing yet another picture of my aunt smiling (and sometimes dancing) while she is in the art room or the allotment or in with the toddler's play session, or just having a chat and a cuppa. Visiting in person is lovely too, I am met with smiles and warmth, it is a very happy place to be and is the perfect fit for my aunt.
