View Full Details of Bracken HouseMy grandad was cared for in Bracken house for around 3 months. The rooms are very very small and there are no en-suite bathrooms, all shared. Bedroom furniture is mostly damaged and not well maintained. My grandad displays aggressive behaviour due to his dementia. Bracken house do not usually take residents who display aggression, but after their assessment, agreed to take my grandad. Although most staff were lovely, they could not manage my grandad's needs or behaviour and I felt a lot of them didn't take the time to get to know him. Denture cleaning tablets were left in my grandad's room, which was never supposed to happen, and when he was unsupervised, he ate one of the tablets and needed to be taken to hospital. He also sustained a lot of bruising and when I asked how it had happened, no one seemed to know. I reported Bracken to safeguarding and CQC and I feel management put their staff and residents at risk by not admitting they could not manage my grandads behaviour and care needs sooner.
I yesterday had the pleasure of having lunch with my dear husband - which meant so much as my family are far away. As always the staff were marvellous - I was treated like "royalty" as I am on each visit. Having worked in the NHS for 40 years I have never experienced such wonderful care. These people are living angels.
My lovely aunt passed on 6th May 2024. She'd been living at Bracken House for nearly 6 years. I know we wouldn't have had her with us for as long as we did without the love and care she received at Bracken. She settled in beautifully. The staff have been amazing, nothing was ever too much trouble, my aunt's comfort was paramount. I knew she was in safe hands and if she was ever under the weather the staff would always call me to let me know and keep me updated as to her progress. I can fully recommend Bracken House, I'm so grateful to the management and all the staff for the wonderful care they've given to my aunt.
