Following a serious fall last November our mother decided that a period of respite after being discharged from hospital was necessary as we felt that being at her home would not have been safe or conducive to a proper recovery.
Our initial impressions of Oaklands were that it was a well run home
that had a lovely atmosphere but more importantly the level of care and interaction between the staff and the residents was fabulous and so important that they were made to feel welcome.
So much so that as our mother started to become more mobile she decided that being a permanent resident at Oaklands really was the route forward. Suffice to say the level of care, quality of food, interaction with staff at all levels has been first class, mother feels safe, well looked after and content. We would have no hesitation in recommending Oaklands House as a respite or permanent home.

Our aunt moved to Oaklands over three years ago.
She felt at home immediately and never regretted the move. The staff have been really kind, thoughtful and efficient since day one and she soon made many friends amongst them. They are always happy and cheerful and nothing is too much trouble. She
was always commenting on how wonderful they were and assuring us that we never need worry about her as they would always look after her.
This was a great reassurance to us as we both live several hours drive away and could not visit very often.
The home had a seemingly ineffectual temporary manager for a time recently and it is a credit to the administration and staff in the home that the standards did not slip noticeably. Now the home has a new manager who is proving to be excellent.
The staff always made us welcome and feel at home. We were so lucky to find such a wonderful place for our aunt to see out her days and we are immensely grateful for all the care and attention she received.

Great home just outside Southwold near the sea. My Aunt loves it there within the safe well cared for environment. She is less able to walk now, but there is a lift to get her around the stairs. A nice house, with day room and lovely staff.

My father moved into Oaklands after having a few falls at home. He started with a couple of weeks respite care after time in hospital, and decided he would feel safer as a resident.
The staff have all made him welcome too. He is quite happy with his own company but enjoys family visits and the
team of nurses that come in to dress his legs. He hasn't taken part in any of the activities but we've heard they have a good calendar of events.
We attend the resident relative meetings where anything can be discussed. We feel Kelly is exactly the person Oaklands needs at the helm. What few issues my father has had in the past, we are confident that these have been addressed.

Since my mum moved in in November 24, I have nothing but praise for the staff and the care they have offered her.
They have understood her needs really well and accommodated them in a very understanding yet professional manner.
I always worried about Mum being in a home and how she would be
looked after.
Oaklands staff are amazing .
They are kind, knowledgeable, humorous and exceptionally caring.
They have welcomed us as her family. We are always welcomed when we come to eat with Mum. This includes over Christmas and at various events.
They've dealt well with mum's questions, her ups and downs, including her frequent tears about the dog she lost. They handled that in a very sensitive manner.
Thank you so much for your continued care. It means a lot.

My Father had a rapid decline in health, one which we could no longer manage at home, and we decided to seek respite care. We were met by a carer at the car on arrival, who welcomed us with warmth, authentic care and gentle humour which lightened the gravity of the situation. That warmth, humanity
and care was consistently maintained throughout his stay and, despite such a short respite period of one month, his Parkinson's anxiety has improved greatly. I cannot thank the staff enough for their kindness, genuine care and humour. Oaklands is an inviting, light and friendly place - the care is given in such a way as to allow residents to maintain their individual 'personhood'. From carers to chefs to management, there is a tangible lack of corporate edge. There is, however, an ever present sense that they will go the extra yard to support the dignity of the resident alongside the support they extend to family members trying to navigate the emotional and practical elements of this journey.

Oaklands House is a lovely care home. With 29 residents it is large enough to offer the highest levels of safety and care, yet small and intimate enough to feel like a home away from home.
All the staff and the carers are amazing, and my mum constantly praises them when I visit. On weekday
mornings and afternoons, there are activities such as seated exercise, crafts, quizzes, entertainment and cooking. She joins in with most of these sessions and has adjusted to life at Oaklands extremely well.

Oaklands has always treated Mum as part of a big family. I never worry about her care. They are amazing and constantly keep me informed of any problems. I visit regularly and I'm made to feel very welcome and part of the family at Oaklands. If you are looking for a residential home for a loved one
you can't go wrong. There has been a lot of work done recently to make the garden accessible and enjoyable for all. Including vegetable patches that the residents get involved in. There are activities every day for them to also enjoy. The meals are served with choices for all residents and are delivered by silver service. There are opportunities for family to have a meal with their loved ones. The chefs are great cooks. Well worth a visit.

Mum has been at Oaklands House for 1 year now. She feels safe and well looked after and has a good relationship with the other residents and the staff. Oaklands is run effectively under the manager's leadership and there is a happy and welcoming atmosphere with a good range of activities and
initiatives. The staff are kind, caring and proactive. In October the residents, having made biscuits and decorations, enjoyed a Halloween party with all the staff dressed up in full costume. The recently constructed scenic viewpoint group has just been opened by the Mayor with residents enjoying tea and cake in the garden which they shared with friends and relatives. We are very pleased to have chosen Oaklands for Mum, she is very content and comfortable there.

My brother and I were so grateful that Oaklands House were able to take our father into respite care with no notice being given after the ambulance service attended him at his house after a fall. His being offered a room after respite as a resident by the manager and his team, ensured that his rapid
decline in mobility and health was made as painless and comfortable as it could be. It was his wish to remain in his house for as long as possible, so sadly by the time of his admission, his mobility was so impaired that although the nursing staff offered to take him downstairs in the lift, he was happy to remain in his room. Had he been admitted earlier he could have taken advantage of the many communal facilities on offer and made friends with other residents, many of whom he knew. His every need was catered for, and he appreciated the lovely food that was on offer freshly prepared and cooked on site, and loved the attention of the staff who were so caring and friendly.

The
food is excellent and quite adventurous.
Fresh, well-cooked, healthy food.
The rooms are spacious and homely and you can take in your own things.
They have a specialist activity person; different things each day. Also outings to local attractions.

Most importantly, the staff and management are really good, approachable, helpful and good carers for everyone.
