View Full Details of Valerian Court Care HomeValerian Court feels more like a luxury hotel than a care home, but the comfort and amenities are underpinned by staff who are skilled, capable and unfailing kind. My mum has been treated with compassion, encouragement and dignity. It was a great relief to have qualified staff close at hand from the nursing team. Now, she is safe and comfortable so I am at ease. Her room is lovely, fitted out with plenty of storage and every comfort, including an ensuite wet room. A wide range of enriching and enjoyable activities are available as well as the in house hair salon, beautician and hand made cakes in the coffee lounge. The manager is very diligent, accessible and knowledgeable, and he puts residents, family and staff at ease with his warm manner. This ethos permeates throughout VC creating a very positive, calm atmosphere where everyone strives for excellence.
As a family we were very worried about moving mum to a care home but we had exceeded what we could do to look after mum well at home. The team at the Valerian have been sensitive, supportive to the whole family, the level of personal care as well as medical support has been great, hugely beneficial for mum's wellbeing and so much effort is put into ensuring there is a calendar of activities which engages everyone and helps to build friendships. The staff have sourced new equipment when needed to help ensure mum is able to participate as much as possible. The staff take time to chat. And all seem to genuinely enjoy their job. There is a lovely atmosphere in the home. We enjoy the roof terrace and socialising up there, it really doesn't feel like a care home at times. Cinema, hairdressers, nail bar. I would highly recommend.
My father spent his last few weeks at Valerian Court. Whenever I visited, I found great care being delivered with empathy and kindness. Having 24hr nursing care really helped to ensure that any health/pain issues could be dealt with promptly. There is a friendly, happy atmosphere in this home, with the sound of laughter echoing down the corridors. During his time with them the staff helped organise a big family celebration. This was really memorable for the whole family, and their efforts created memories for our family to treasure. I would not hesitate to recommend.
Valerian Court is so much more than a 'Care Home' it's staff and particularly the Manager, have made such a difference to our family when mum needed to be cared for. We now feel fully supported by a team of professionals as they get to know mum, providing support and care which was something that we couldn't do 24 hours a day. We always feel welcome when visiting and it's so nice to see the activities and participation of both staff and residents. The little touches by the chef bringing around ice lollies accompanied by a jingle on his mobile made me smile!
We brought lambs from our farm to show the residents at Valerian Court. We were made to feel very welcome by the lovely staff and residents, who seemed to enjoy the experience and be happy in their surroundings. We were struck by the warm rapport between the staff and residents and the quality of the home in general is very good, spacious, bright and furnished to a high standard.
My mother was living at Valerian Court for a year and a half. During that time we noticed the care patience and affection she received. We were able to relax knowing her needs were more than taken care of and that she was treated with dignity. There are some great people working there and there was always a warm welcome. So glad we found this place for mum.
Valerian Court provides excellent care for the residents, and communication with me as her visiting relative. The activities provided are inclusive and diverting. The staff are unfailingly friendly and polite, from reception, to nursing staff and carers, and the food provided is regular and for the most part nutritious. There is no limitation on visiting hours and I always feel welcome.
My parents both had things they wanted to say Dad who stayed at care home, said he liked the friendliness of the manager, everyone was welcoming. He enjoyed the selection of food and the choices on offer. The singing sessions were a favourite. Mum said she thought he was well looked after and she liked the friendliness of the staff, they were very caring. She enjoyed the entertainment especially enjoyed the saxaphone player that came in for the residents.
Everything about the care home was excellent: the care, sympathy, accommodation and environment. The staff were so very kind and attentive. Sadly, my wife was unable to take part in the range of activities due to her condition.
I could not recommend Valerian Court highly enough for anyone looking for Residential Care for a loved one. Following an unpleasant experience in hospital, I wanted Mum to have a positive respite stepping stone, before returning home. I visited and had a full tour and discussion with the manager. I was so impressed with the interaction he had with every resident and the care staff on his excellent team. Mum had two weeks respite residency and enjoyed her stay, the friends that she made, the activities and the wonderful care she received. The whole experience from the moment she walked through the door to the moment she walked out, in tears, as she had such a lovely time, was excellent. The resident rooms, facilities, and communal spaces are stylish, bright, fresh, and comfortable, feeling like a home from home. All the staff at Valerian Court, Reception, Nursing and Care Assistants, Housekeeping, Maintenance and the Kitchen/Dining crews are professional, compassionate and caring.
We paid our first visit to the Valerian care home in Didcot today to see a friend who moved there recently. We were so warmly welcomed by the lady who was in reception. She did everything she could to make us feel at home, even making a cup of tea and bringing it to the room where we were visiting. She even found a bowl of water for our little dog! We met several members of staff while we were there and they were all so kind and helpful. It was lovely to see our friend being well cared for in clean, attractive surroundings.
My Dad has been a resident at Valerian Court for the past three weeks and our family's experiences so far have been really positive. We've all been made welcome at all times and it certainly feels very homely. All the staff we've met so far have been lovely - Two ladies at reception always provide a warm welcome; Two carers in particular and the care team have looked after Dad so well; The registered and deputy manager and the management team have been so helpful. When we leave Dad after a visit we know he will be very well cared for and that's a great feeling. Thanks all.
We used this care home as respite for my father-in-law who has vascular dementia. We picked the home because I felt it was the home which best met all of our needs. The staff were caring and professional. My father-in-law was well cared for, even when confused at difficult times. He settled down really well. During his stay, he actually improved with a marked improvement in his ability to communicate, going from almost non-verbal to being able to talk to me on the phone! I would be happy to use Valerian Court Care Home again.
A modern, clean, and well-appointed facility. All staff engagements have been professional, friendly, and most important, caring. It's early days for my mother but we feel we have made the right choice.
I have been volunteering at Valerian Court for about a year and my first impressions of a warm and caring environment have only been reinforced. The reception team are always cheerful and friendly and the residents are always happy and relaxed. I haven't seen many of the care staff but those I have met are so caring in their approach to and care of their residents treating them with kindness, dignity, and respect. I look forward to my times with the residents doing craft work or knitting or just chatting and always have a feeling it has been time well spent.
I found the decor amazing and facilities very good but I found/experienced a lack of caring from the staff. They were doing what was required. Feeding one client she was on her phone, and another client had requested toast and tea but was not forthcoming. No consultation certainly a lack of communication. Should do better.
From start to finish, the care provided was of an excellent standard. The understanding and respect shown to my mother meant I could relax whilst away on holiday, in the knowledge that any significant change would be relayed immediately. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the management and carers for the way they nursed my mother; it was invaluable. Thank you.
Administrative staff are very friendly and helpful at all times. arers do all they can to help residents in all ways, and have great patience. Visiting entertainers are greatly enjoyed and having animals come is really welcomed.
I have continued to visit my friend after they moved into Valerian Court as part of the Didcot Good Neighbours Scheme. The team all seem very friendly and welcoming. The lounge areas are very well equipped and extremely comfortable for catching up with the resident. The resident appears to have really flourished being in Valerian Court.
My brother was transferred here from another care home - a different organisation, in July. I visited the home he is now a resident in twice. Each time I was very impressed by the warm welcome from all the staff, both the reception and the care/nursing staff. The rooms were very spacious, and most importantly for my brother, was the depth of the window in the rooms. In his previous home, his bed faced a wall and he had not been able to see out of a window or view his television properly. He now has a view out of his bedroom window where he can see trains passing by and also trees! The furniture and furnishings are very lovely and so his room feels more like home and very comfortable when the family come to visit him. The staff have responded to his special needs and the food served to him is excellent (he has a very healthy appetite) - the staff have to feed him and cut up his food as he is disabled. Overall, myself and family are delighted with the home.
