My Mum went in to Stroud House in February and has settled really well with the help and kindness of all the staff. The home has undergone recent renovation work and still more to come, which I have to say looks amazing and very homely and welcoming. This home always feels warm and welcoming and very
smart now. The gardens are beautiful and it is so nice to be able to sit outside with family

I feel it would be difficult to find a more genuinely caring Home for my mother. The management and staff go above and beyond to create a comfortable and safe homely environment for their residents. They organise activities and events to occupy and stimulate everyone, including very successful musical
acts who are enjoyed by everyone. Family members are made to feel welcome and are invited to join in when they can, which adds to the feeling of a homely atmosphere.
Recent attractive redecoration with new furnishings, with access to the garden which has also undergone recent improvements, all add to a calm and pleasant environment for all.
The care and attention is much appreciated and I wouldn't want my mother anywhere else.

My mother has only been in Downs House for a few days but I can already see that the move to the care home has many benefits for her. The staff have encouraged her to spend time in the lounge, to meet the other residents and to take part in the activities. She has also immediately developed a trusting
relationship with her personal carer. The food is good and she is eating well. As a result, she is relaxed in her new home and is showing increasing interest in all that is taking place there.

Reply from Latasha Jarrett, Business Support Manager at Downs House

Thank you for sharing such positive feedback. We're so pleased to hear that your mother is settling in well at Downs House and already experiencing the benefits of the move. It's wonderful that she has built a trusting relationship with her personal carer and is engaging with others and taking part in activities. Supporting our residents to feel relaxed, included, and well cared for is at the heart of what we do. We look forward to getting to know her even more in the days ahead.

From the very first meeting when staff came to assess my wife at home, the experience has been fantastic. Within a week, my wife had moved into Stroud House and the care she has received has been truly outstanding she has settled in marvelously thanks to an incredible team. They are excellent, very
professional and compassionate but go above and beyond always. The staff are attentive, kind to residents needs. They support my wife and myself making us feel part of S House. The manager and staff have been incredibly supportive of my Father during his transition into Stroud House. We were made to feel very welcome, all my questions were answered and it was lovely to see the staff caring for all the other residents during the day. We don't live in the UK and the home have
been supportive of setting up a regular communication for me so I can speak to my Father regularly which was something he was unable to do before he became a resident.

My mother was a resident at Downs House for recuperative care for 2 months after an operation. I found the House Manager to be responsive, clear and efficient, as well as kind and understanding of our needs. All the Downs House team - day and night - have been incredibly kind but also practical, working
efficiently with visiting Community Care Team staff, and being very responsive when my mother wasn't feeling well. I felt reassured throughout her stay that she was in good hands, and always felt welcomed when I visited.
Staff take time to chat both to visitors and residents, and the other residents look content, clean, warm and safe. The food seems good and the rooms are all clean and tidy, as are the communal areas. There is something going on most days for residents.
I would be happy to recommend Downs House to others, and would have no hesitation in bringing my mother back for a longer or permanent stay if that became necessary.

Reply from Latasha Jarrett, Business Support Manager at Downs House

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed feedback. We're so pleased to hear that your mother's stay with us at Downs House was a positive and reassuring experience for you both. It's wonderful to know that our teams kindness, responsiveness, and collaboration with the Community Care Team made a real difference to her recovery. Were especially glad that you felt welcomed and confident in the care she received. Your kind words mean a great deal to the whole team, and wed be honoured to welcome your mother back should the need arise.

My husband is a day visitor and from day one has been made to feel special by the all the staff. Greeted at the door by name and after settling in the lounge, enjoys the day , he has lunch and refreshments.
The home has activities most days and he especially enjoys the singers that come in.
Management
has no problem if i need to change the day or need extra days.
It was not a easy decision to use day care but after the first visit , I have no trouble with him going and this gives me a worry free day and an opportunity to see friends and family that live fuller away.
We are also welcome to any of the activities/ entertainment on different days to his normal day.
In all a positive experience for both of us.

My sister-in-law is being extremely well looked after. The care and attention she receives is second to none. She is always clean, tidy and in good spirits. Her state of mind has improved since going to the home as all the worry of domestic chores and the everyday task of looking after herself have
been removed. The home provides stimulating outings as well as in house entertainment. The staff are kind, caring and efficient. If I have a question about my sister-in-laws care there is always a member of staff to answer my query. Her room is very nice and south facing gets lots of sunshine. There are also French Windows with access to the well tended garden which my sister-in-law loves. She goes for little walks twice a day. She says the food is excellent and if she feels like something between meals there is always a willing member of staff to provide it. All in all we are very pleased my sister-in-law is being looked after in Downs House where she is happy and contented.

My dad moved to Downs House last autumn and has a lovely garden room with his own bathroom. He has a bird feeder and flowers just outside his window, and a door into the garden so he can sit out there when the weather is warmer. My mother-in-law moved into Stroud House in January 2025 due to a decline in her dementia and I'm happy to say she's now in the right place. The staff are so kind, caring and patient. She has received lots of one-to-one care to help settle her in and I've never seen her happier.
She seems to be doing
something different every day, be it, dancing, crafts, and visits out and about which is amazing. The carers do an amazing job helping to navigate these vulnerable people through such a confusing time.

Mum went into care in early January after a stay in hospital. The transition Stroud House performed was nothing short of a miracle! Mum suffers very badly with anxiety issues so it was a real worry as to how this would pan out. In a very short space of time, she seems to be settling in her "new home".
The staff are, attentive, professional and accommodating, to both the residents, and the families, my mind has been put at rest that Mum is safe and well cared for. Sam, the manager has gone out of her way to reassure both myself and Mum.
Another positive of Stroud House is the amount of activities for the residents, never a dull moment with everything from Burns night bagpipes to country walks.
Stroud House has made a difficult family time, a lot more Human. Thank you.

Reply from Samantha Oliver, Home Manager at Stroud House

Thank you for taking the time to send a reply. It means a lot. Mum has the most amazing, addictive personality and it is a joy to have her at Stroud House. I will pass on the review to the staff as it does give them such a boost. Eventually Mum will finish knitting my leg warmers. She has started them about 30 times now lol.

We visited a very old friend who had only quite recently started her life at Stroud House. It was the first time we had been there and we went to have lunch with her on her birthday. The staff were all very friendly and efficient and we had a good lunch at a table they had kindly set up for us in a
place where we could have a pleasant uninterrupted chat. There was a birthday banner and balloons. The place seemed spotlessly clean, with a happy atmosphere and plenty of staff. We were re-assured that our friend was being well looked after and with lots going on, enjoying a stimulating time.
