9.3 Group Review Score (the average from all locations with a review score)
  • Care Homes Owned by Abbeycare
Abbey Gate is part of a ‘not for profit’ Christian organisation which was started by some of the local churches in Weston super Mare 60 years ago, when they had a vision to start care for those in need of some help.

They are registered for 20 residents, which ensures they have a ‘home from home’ friendly atmosphere. Their dedicated trained staff provide high levels of care with a person-centred approach, ensuring all individual needs and preferences are met.

The house is situated in a quiet area of Weston and has good transport links. Parking is available on the road for easy visiting. The front of the house overlooks the sea front which is easily accessible and is situated just in front of Clarence Park, with its lovely trees and gardens, where residents are often able to go for walks with carers. Sometimes they have a picnic in the park with an icecream treat! Abbey Gate is privileged to be in an area that is flat with easy use of a wheelchair in case of need as well as being able to walk to the local shops or stroll along the prom enjoying the sea views.

Abbey Gate provides day care, respite and long term care and encourages you to get in contact to arrange either a visit (Government guidelines procedures permitting) or arrange a ‘virtual’ tour via telephone or through this website.

Everyone is so very kind and nice. I feel completely confident leaving my husband with these good people for both day care and respite care. I know he has a nice time even though his memory - short term - is not good at all. I would know if he wasn't happy. They all like him and I know he likes them.

My wife attends Gough House one day per week as day care. From my observations and my wifes comments I believe Gough House provides a good, competent, friendly venue. The staff are attentive at arrival and collection times, and deal with stressful situations effectively. They keep me informed of any
events that have occurred whilst my wife is in their care.

Dad is happy in the home which is the most important thing.
General communication is good, but personal communication can be sketchy, not always updated if dad has had a problem.
Staff are friendly and welcoming, but often short staffed with quick turnover which is of concern.
Ongoing problem with
stair lift which needs to be replaced, can leave residents stuck upstairs when broken down.
Ongoing problem with laundry, lost personal clothes, wrong clothes returned, not own bedding put on when changed.
Food of good standard, varied and home cooked.

Recently my Fathers Dementia has got significantly worse, and his behaviour has been challenging to the staff . However upsetting this is to the family , the care staff have been exceptional in his care , showing him dignity and respect. They have been excellent in chasing the doctors to get him some
help medically with his sleeping which I am very grateful. The staff are always willing to let me know any updates. The food is exceptional. All in all I can't thank this care home enough for everything they do

I went into Gough House for 4 days while my family were away I had a ground floor room off the dining room which was very convenient for me. I mostly took care of myself but the staff popped in all the time to see if I needed any help and support.
The food was delicious and I had a choice of what I
wanted.
The entertainment was excellent and I really enjoyed the singer. The games were also very good, well organised.
The staff were all at hand if I needed them, very polite and caring.
I would be happy to go in again for respite if needed.

I have no complaints or criticism about my stay at Gough House only the highest praise for the lovely manager and all the lovely staff. Everyone was so kind and helpful and nothing was too much trouble day or night, however busy they were. Visitors were always warmly welcomed at any time (other than
meal times) and always offered tea coffee or biscuits. I would have no hesitation in recommending Gough House to anyone considering residential or respite care and would certainly return there again.

My husband has Alzheimer's disease and had been attending Gough House for some time as a day centre user and I have always been satisfied with the service given, he was really anxious about staying there overnight and I expected on my return to find him a bit down in the dumps, so it was a wonderful
surprise to see him so happy and content. Gough House staff as always were so caring when I rang to get an update and reassured me that he was okay so much so he had been watching football in the evening with the staff.
Food likes and dislikes were catered for and a full routine at home information was recorded and as much as possible implemented.
I cannot speak highly enough about this home. If you live in the area and are looking for daycare or residential care please go and take a look around and you will find a happy comfortable place for your loved one to enjoy.
Top marks Gough House and thank you so much for caring for my dear husband, I am so grateful to you all.

My mum is very happy in Gough House, the staff are excellent in the care of Mum and are also very happy to accommodate to Mum's dietary needs.
The home itself is always spotlessly clean and tidy. Activities are arranged every day, which Mum enjoys.

My mother was a resident of Abbey Gate for over six years and she told us it was the most wonderful place to be. The staff were her family too, everyone was so caring, we could not have asked for a better place for her to be. The building isn't the most modern, the rooms are a little dated but/and the
dealbreaker is the people that work here are the most caring anyone could ask for. Sadly, when Mum's final days came, they did everything they could to accommodate her needs and made her comfortable in her room.
I cannot thank this place enough, too many names to mention, you were all fantastic.

My mother attended the day centre at Gough House for a little over a year. Her dementia meant she had become very attached to my father and the daycare enabled him to have a much-needed break. The staff were so caring, supporting our family as well as taking great care of Mum. The activities were excellent
and varied, as were the meal options. The daycare co-ordindator in particular was amazing - born for the job and able to make my mum happy and comfortable at the daycare. Could not recommend more highly.
