Review of St Columba's from J H (Granddaughter of Resident) published on 14 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My grandad was put into the home for a short period. Throughout these last couple of weeks, the staff have been very accommodating, welcoming and reassuring. They answer any questions honestly, making a lovely environment for the family of the guests. My grandad struggled to settle but the staff would not let that stop them from trying. The facilities have a range of activities like day trips, barber and movies.

Reply from Mary Rose Saligumba, St Columbas Care Home Manager at St Columba's
We are also pleased that you noticed the variety of activities and services available, from day trips and visits from the barber

to movie afternoons. Providing opportunities for enjoyment, social connection, and meaningful experiences is an important part of life at St Columbus Care...

Overall Experience
My Grandad was admitted to St Columba's recently and I was blown away by the level of professionalism and care offered by the staff here. The staff are kind, caring and always available to talk and help, especially through difficult periods.
Maryrose is a fantastic manager and has helped us through the whole process, always taking the time to answer any questions we had and keeping us reassured throughout my Grandad's stay.
Although he has only been at St Columba's for a couple of weeks, it has been incredibly reassuring knowing that he has been somewhere he is safe, comfortable and genuinely cared for. Every member of staff we have spoken to has been friendly and welcoming, and it is clear how much they care about the people they look after.

As my Grandad gets ready to leave, I just want to say a massive thank you to Mary-Rose and the whole team at St Columba's for everything they have done for him and for our family. We couldn't have asked for better care!

Reply from Mary Rose Saligumba, St Columbas Care Home Manager at St Columba's

We had to put our mum in a home, and it wasn't an easy decision!
However we were actually blown away, we were greeted by the Manager, who made sure mum had everything she needed, also on each visit she asks, how we are, how we feel mums settling and if there's anything she can assist with
The building is decorated lovely, and it's spotless! The gardens are beautiful and well maintained!
There's a cinema room, a hair/beauty salon an activities room, library and even a small lil pub and sweetie shop

The staff are lovely and very welcoming May is on the ball and there to help with any queries, also there's one carer in particular called Linda that, has made me feel so at ease looking after mum and that this home was the right choice!

My Auntie was admitted to St Columbas for end of life care. She only had 18 days at St Columbas but our experience was tremendous. The staff were so outstanding both to her and our family. We were always made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. On the day my Auntie passed away Nicky, the nurse on duty explained everything that was happening, we never at any point felt scared or kept in the dark.

My aunt moved into St Columbas care home in March 2026. From the very 1st day she was in there, she loved it,she felt settled and comfortable, staff where always there to lend a hand and make sure her needs where met. The rooms where immaculate and dining hall was also very clean. The other residents looked happy and content. On the day my aunty passed, the nurse(Nikki)'was always on hand to tell us what was happening and to reassure us that my aunt was never in any pain or discomfort.

Mum admitted to St Columbas Care Home 23rd Feb 2026. Overall the care support towards Mum has been great. However Mum does have capacity and more stimulation tasks would have been welcomed. Understand each resident's needs vary. More maybe games, quizzes, bingo my mum would love. Movie nights etc. Staff/nurses lovely.

This care home offers excellent care to my mother. Staff are so nice, very caring and always ready to help. The manager and staff nurse keep me informed either by phone or face to face meetings regarding any adjustments required to ensure my mother receives the very best of care they can provide. Happily I have nothing negative to say, only good thing. I am delighted with the home in general and so happy with all the staff.

Was at a relatives meeting chaired by the Care Home Manager and she fully informed us of what has been happening recently and what the . future plans they have. The recent upgrades have made the Care Home Improvements to a very high and comfortable standard. I find the staff very approachable and helpful and they take great care of the Residents. All food is home cooked on the premises giving a variety of choice each day. My brother in law has settled in well and I am very pleased with the care he receives. My aunt had a lot of difficulties in accepting she needed help. She was so understand afraid and angry about losing her independence. St Columbus have been amazing at helping support both her and the family in trying to deal with how difficult the whole process has been. My aunt has now settled down and is seeming happier. The home is immaculately clean and the staff are all very gentle and accommodating of my concerns. Of particular note are three ladies who have had a good understanding of my aunt and how best to help her.
