Overview

The Review Score of 9.9 (maximum of 10) for Devonshire Dementia Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Devonshire Dementia Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.877 for Devonshire Dementia Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (100 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 114 Ratings = 4.877

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Devonshire Dementia Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 6.8 positive Reviews (34 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 7 Reviews ÷ 6.8 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

It became apparent that because of advancing dementia our elderly mother could no longer remain living alone at home safely despite the attendance of daily carers and the decision was made reluctantly and with a degree of trepidation to transfer her to a care home.
We were extremely fortunate to be able to locate the Devonshire Dementia Care Home where a room became available and where all of our mother's children and their families would be able to visit her regularly.
Because the Devonshire was able to offer specialised care she was moved to an environment in which all of her requirements could be met without distraction by dedicated dementia care staff who would prove to be sympathetic and without exception genuinely very caring.
Our mother's room was redecorated beforehand and personalised by hanging some of her own paintings and family photographs on the walls.
When she was moved she immediately became accustomed to her new surroundings and encouraged by the staff felt very much at home despite being unaware that she was now living in a care home.
Her quality of life was much enriched by humour, stimulating activities and encouragement until her death seven months later.

The moment we walked through the front door, we could feel the friendly atmosphere.
The staff are all so very friendly and caring, I have not yet come across one member of staff that is unapproachable. It doesn't matter what time of day you visit, they are always very welcoming. No complaints about laundry or food. My mother has been there for a year now and I am very pleased with her care. Lots of communication and the rooms are kept up to standard.

My mother has been in this care home for 3 years (after being in 3 different ones). From day one the staff have been amazing and with the wrap around care and hour by hour care (which I had never heard of) she has been looked after with the most caring staff I have ever met. I get regular monthly updates and yearly reviews. We have quarterly advocates meetings where other relatives can meet and speakers are often arranged. My mother has twice daily outings in their very own bus which she loves! They have a little pub area which is open daily from 4 pm to 5 pm for residents and visitors and are always thinking of new ideas to make life more comfortable and homely for the residents. They have annual BBQs and Xmas parties and other events too. I can call or visit at any time day or night and nothing is ever too much trouble. The staff are always understanding and really have the time to care for my mothers needs and I feel relaxed knowing she is so well looked after.

As soon as my mother arrived at Devonshire, it was clear we had chosen very well. The facilities are very good and the staff are wonderful.
Each time I visited, I witnessed extraordinary care, the interaction between staff and residents gave me a satisfaction that my mother was being really well looked after.
The entertainment trips (to the park, art galleries etc) gave my mother quality of life which made our entire family very happy.
The Xmas party was fantastic with everyone involved. Wonderful.

My Mum had asked to stay in her own home and it was difficult for the family when this was no longer possible. It took a while for us to decide that Mum would benefit from specialist dementia care.
I researched online and found the Devonshire. The initial visit convinced us that the Devonshire was going to be able to provide the kind of care Mum needed. Mum lived in the home for seven months until her death in December. During that time the family spent many hours at the home and were continually impressed by the standard of care and the ethos of the home.
Everyone working at the Devonshire has training about dementia and this provides a safe and stimulating environment for the residents. Mum settled in quickly and was able to go out most weekdays on 'fresh air drives' to places she had loved all her life.
The staff are endlessly kind and there is humour and fun that I would not have expected. I have no reservations about recommending this home.

The Devonshire Care Home has provided my mum with an environment that is familiar, comfortable and where all her needs are met and encouraged to be as active as she chooses to be. The staff are truly amazing. They are well informed regarding all aspects of Dementia care. Thoroughly professional at all times, the staff are positive and always find time to be involved one to one with each resident, listening to stories from the past, sharing a laugh and a joke, holding a hand or giving a reassuring hug. I can recommend The Devonshire Care Home without hesitation.

First, visit to the home I was made to feel very welcome and taken to my aunt. Offered a drink and spent one and a half hours with my aunt in the lounge area. Lots of staff visible and available for residents. Staff happy to answer any questions I had.
