The Devonshire Care Home is a specialist dementia care home and day centre with over 35 years of experience with consistently high CQC ratings.

The home has been successful in breakdown placements from other homes where needs could not be met. Small adjustments in care make a huge difference.

The unique care model supports the exceptional staff to weave thoughtful and subtle interventions and therapies into the daily life of residents and day guests. Residents thrive not just survive.

Each day is, therefore, more meaningful and residents and day guests experience an increase in well being and reduction in anxiety and agitation.

The home has a day guest programme for those families who are not quite ready to make the transition to residential care.

Residents are not restricted to a floor or a wing and can enjoy exploring the whole house, the street garden and visit the Devonshire Lyons Tea Room for afternoon tea, the market stall, hairdressing saloon/barbershop, tool shed in the day centre.

The staff at Devonshire Care Home are truly wonderful. They care for my brother who has dementia, with such kindness, patience, and respect. Knowing he is in safe and loving hands brings our family so much comfort. We are so grateful for everything they do every single day.
With warmest thanks and
appreciation,

When my GP suggested that my husband should go to a daycare centre because I was on the verge of a breakdown. I was reticent and unsure I felt I was letting my husband down.
Firstly, I found the Devonshire and spoke to the day care manager who was absolutely lovely and made me feel very welcome over
the phone. I then visited With my son, when we went to see the Devonshire we both liked it immensely the staff were welcoming and friendly.
It seemed very organised and they said that they could help my husband who has brain damage to become more independent.
Well, my goodness they were right. Since he has been there, he is now started to feed himself. He is far more alert. His progress is absolutely phenomenal every time he's picked up. They say good morning to him and when they drop him home they say good night we hope you've had a good day. My husband is also speaking more because they put the time and effort into helping him. I cannot find fault in this home at all.

My opinion on residential care homes wasn't very positive that was until my dad went to Devonshire House in September 2023 which was when my option completely changed. With advanced dementia my dad needed specialist care. Having visited other relatives in other care homes I felt very nervous and to
be honest sick to the stomach with worry and guilt. From the word go I was totally reassured that he was receiving the best possible care and felt huge relief i had made the right choice. Each and every member of staff showed my dad sincere love and respect. It was obvious it was not just a job they clearly loved what they did. Dad always had the biggest smile on his face and always looked well cared for in appearance . Visiting was always a pleasure as you were always greeted with a warm
Welcome and always felt part of loving environment. Sadly dad passed in March and whilst I miss him terribly I feel comforted knowing the last 2 and a half years of his life couldn't have been better.

Staff are extremely friendly from the moment you enter the premises. They are always helpful and let us know how our mum is doing and what she has been up to in her day. There are different areas the residents can go to, to do activities in smaller groups. They have activities organised for special
occasions like fireworks, which my mum really enjoyed watching.
All these activities are put into a monthly newsletter along with photos.
My mum is spoken to with kindness and respect as are the other residents. I am always touched how softly spoken the carers are and their compassion towards my mum.
It really makes a difference to know that my mum is safe and happy and well looked after. Her huge smile to the carers says it all.

Every Wednesday a minor miracle takes place, a random group of sufferers from dementia meet for a coffee morning and singsong. My husband can't sing a note in tune - no matter. The staff are wonderful. They are welcoming and treat everyone as a friend. They know what everyone's favourite song is and
there is music. Gradually smiles appear, sometimes laughter. Staff dance with visitors, who regain some of their old self. Thank you Devonshire for giving my 95-year-old husband with Alzheimer's a weekly 2 hours of happiness.

Staff at the home are genuinely caring and work hard to look after my dad. My dad often says "they look after me very well here and I am happy here". Dad is always clean and dressed when I see him and the day centre provides fantastic social interaction and activities, which is proven to help slow the
progression of dementia. Thank you to all the wonderful staff for taking such good care of dad.

The Devonshire Dementia Care Home & Day Centre is well run and is advanced in the use of technology to assist in the care and monitoring of the well being of the residents.
It keeps in touch with residents' relatives weekly about their health, activities and progress, and, the home issues a monthly
newsletter with photographs of the residents describing their activities and reaction to them.
The key factor to me is the high standard of care the staff show to the residents continually.

We are very pleased with the care that our father received overall. The staff are attentive and the home have been good at listening to our concerns and putting provision in place.
We would have liked our father to have a more bespoke care plan. We gave a lot of information to the home when he first
started living there about how to deal with him and distract him and the things he enjoys, but this is often not adhered to. It would be nice to see staff engaging more directly with residents.

The Devonshire Dementia Care Home and Day Centre has been an outstanding care home for my Mother. she is always well dressed and happy when I see her and is very settled after being there for early five years. She joins in all the activities and enjoys the food. She has never once complained and she
is treated with the utmost respect and dignity. Mum enjoys meeting new people at the Day Centre and the activities they arrange. She is kept busy and I know she is in the best place for her.

Always understanding, caring, considerate and focused on the needs of the individual. The staff are always welcoming, warm and friendly to family members while going above and beyond in the care of the residents. Throughout the pandemic, they have been exemplary in all areas. I am so pleased and relieved
that my mum is here, where she is happy almost all of the time, understood and cared for so diligently. A fantastic, happy home.

My mother-in-law has lived at the Devonshire since 2014. We have nothing but praise for the whole time she has been there. All the staff have gone out of their way to make her stay as comfortable and happy as it could be. From the moment she entered the home she was looked after constantly for the first
few days until she settled in. Any minor problems were dealt with to make her feel at home.
When the Day Centre opened she would visit and enjoyed her time there. It's such a great asset to the home.
My mother-in-law passed away recently and the staff couldn't have done more to make her passing a peaceful one. Our family are sending grateful thanks for the care they gave to her and would have no hesitation in recommending The Devonshire Care Home for a family member.

Dad has been a resident now for two years and seems to be happy and contented. All the staff are caring and attentive, and they put up with his sometimes challenging behaviour. The exceptional standard of care has been maintained during Covid, and information has flowed throughout. I am so glad that
we found the Devnshire.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.615)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.615) out of 10 for Devonshire Dementia Care Home & Day Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.815 for Devonshire Dementia Care Home & Day Centre is calculated as follows: ( (76 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 92 Ratings = 4.815
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Devonshire Dementia Care Home & Day Centre is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
