My Great Aunt had to go to hospital 2 x in March 2025. The care that she received was absolutely brilliant. I was informed something was wrong I was called while the paramedics where at the home, both times. The staff kept me informed every step of the way. There was one occasion I couldn't get to the
hospital and one of the staff members went with her.
In a honesty because of the care I know she receive at George Brooker I wasn't totally surprised, I find the attitude of the staff and the Management absolutely brilliant. I'm kept informed regarding anything that's happening. The home was recommended to me by a health professional that is independent from the care home but has to regularly visit clients in the care home. If your considering a care home in the area as far as I'm concerned you will struggle to find better.
Reply from Maggie Strong, Registered Manager at The George Brooker Care Society LtdHi Tony, thank you for your wonderful review! We are delighted to know that your experience regarding the effective communication from the team was brilliant when your Great Aunt was recently hospitalised. I am very happy to hear that the delivery of care/ attitude from the care staff up to the management team meets all of your expectations too. Putting mum into a "home" was the worst decision I ever had to make. How do you choose?
In my case it came down to gut feel, mum has Dementia so has no concept of the strain her condition was putting on her nor her family, that she no longer knew!
So almost a year ago I took the decision to look for
a care home for mum, everyone will have different criteria when searching but I found mums perfect place when I walked through the doors at George Brooker House. In tje time mum has been resident her anxiety has gone she has made new friends and is now an active part of the GBH community which is lead by the manager, another staff member and their brilliant team
In the year mum has become a member of the dementia choir, been to a football game, been bowling (several times) recently went dog racing and had loads of trips out all organised by the manager and the entertainment team. Mum has a lovely room with memories of "home" life, but she spends her day interacting with the other residents
GB house is brilliant

Mum has severe dementia and can't look after herself. We were so lucky that George Brooker Care Society had a vacancy when we needed it. Mum's transfer into care was made so easy by the welcome she received from staff. We have peace of mind that she is being looked after. The facilities are fabulous,
always scrupulously clean, and whenever we visit mum's room is clean and tidy. She is always well dressed, and the portal means that I can log in and see how she us doing, down to if she had a bath or shower, and what she has been eating. The food is marvellous, by the way.

George Brooker is an amazing care home, they treat the residents with dignity and respect at all times. It is spotless, cleaned to a very high standard, the staff are amazing and work very well with the residents at all times, alongside their siblings. The residents have activities going on at all
times and are encouraged to join in which is good for their health and wellbeing. The rooms are very nice and residents are encouraged to make it home from home.

The standard of care is first class. My relative has been at George Brooker for the last 18 months. My experience since day one is nothing but positive, the staff are always very helpful. There are always plenty of staff on duty and daily activities encourage residents to get involved and interact with
others. If there are any issues we receive a phone call, and this is very comforting that you are made aware at a very early stage, matters are generally dealt with very efficiently. The food is great and there is always a good selection available. If you have visited or had dealings with other care homes, I would recommend that you look at George Brooker and perhaps like me you will see that your nearest and dearest are being looked after at a very good place.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.947 for The George Brooker Care Society Ltd is calculated as follows: ( (289 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 304 Ratings = 4.947
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The George Brooker Care Society Ltd is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
