My partner who has dementia and can be very difficult is treated with great patience, and the care staff allows for her erratic moods. The home has a family feel and because the staff and helpers have been there long term the residents get continuity, which is especially important for dementia patients.
The home is not run primarily as a business, but as a home to care for its residents.

We were looking for a comfortable and safe environment for my mother after my father, who had been her carer, fell ill and could no longer cope. After searching for a while we found St Mary's House, which we felt would suit mum. After being in the family home for 66 years we knew her reluctance to leave
but it was necessary for her welfare. The owner of St Mary's met with mother and immediately understood the situation. She was kind, supportive and incredibly helpful, dealing with mum in a very patient and caring way. Mum was offered a trial period to see how she liked it and I am pleased to say that the trial became permanent. She is content, well cared for and relaxed in her new home. As a family, we are confident that mum is being treated with dignity and respect while being cared for in a way we could not. The current situation has been a problem for us all but our mum is safe and secure for which we are incredibly grateful.

My mother was incapable of caring for herself, and St Mary's house were able to accept her. Mum was settled and content from her first day there. It is a small, family-run and very caring home. Three generations of the same family have an exceptionally caring ethos.

My mum came to this care home in 2019 and we could not have asked for better care to date. All her needs and requests have always been fulfilled by the staff and carers. In fact, I would say they go above and beyond. I highly recommend it as not only did my mum come here but so did my dad's mum, so
when my mum needed to find a care home at 71 years old it was first on her list.

Mum, unfortunately, could no longer manage at home. Now aged 97 years old it was important to find a friendly, efficient and local care home.
All the staff are a credit to the carers. Unfortunately, dad is in a different nursing home, oh how I wish his nursing home was as friendly and caring as St
Mary's House.

We are so delighted with the care given to our Mum at St Mary's. She was - like most people I think - reluctant to move into a residential home, but she absolutely loved it! The wonderful staff are so helpful, friendly and positive and really took the time to get to know our Mum - and she was treated
with dignity, respect and able to be herself. The meals are amazing, the garden and the house are beautiful, and the home is altogether so welcoming and comfortable. We really can't recommend it highly enough - we are so pleased that our Mum had such a lovely and happy time there, and will always be so grateful to everyone at St Mary's.

My mother was resident for about nine months up until her recent death at the age of 97. She had been in another care home previously. Aside from that one being a smarter looking care home, there is really no comparison, St Mary's wins hands down. If you are looking for great care and respect for
your loved ones, this is the place. The staff are wonderful. Whatever is needed, they do it. The food, all prepared on site in a huge, spotlessly maintained kitchen, is excellent.

My mother in law has been a resident for over 6 years. Throughout this time she has received excellent care, support and respect from staff. Any 'problems' have been dealt with immediately and professionally. Her individual needs have been met with understanding.
Senior staff have taken her to numerous
hospital appointments and explained diagnoses and medication and treatment.
They keep us regularly updated, listening to our concerns and acting on them promptly. When Mum recently ran out of money to pay her fees management were supportive and gave us excellent advice re making claims to the Local Authority.
There have been a couple of safeguarding incidents regarding one dishonest carer - management dealt with this fairly and professionally giving us all full support.
Our family have no hesitation in fully recommending this excellent care home.
Our only 'complaints' would be that most of the residents suffer from dementia.
This has been distressing for Mum as she often has no-one 'sensible' to talk to.
Staff have become increasingly busy over the years and no longer have the time to stop and chat to her. The bathroom is too small and unsafe.

This care home is a family run concern, with a warm and friendly atmosphere, amazing, caring and professional carers with a happy vibe that runs throughout the home. The management is friendly and approachable and very competent in their knowledgeable approach to caring for the residents. I am very
happy with my mum's standards of care, wonderful food and I'm confident of her being well looked after.

My father has been living at the home since 14th December. The staff helped him to settle very quickly. Everyone has continued to be kind. I visit 3 times a week and always find the staff helpful and respectful to my father and other residents. My father seems to enjoy the food. On Sundays, the cook
reheats Polish dumplings (pierogi) which my father enjoys as well as the roast. My father feels at home at St Mary's House and I am confident that he is well cared for and happy.

My brothers and I are totally delighted with St Mary's House. My mother has been there for five years now and suffers from severe dementia, but she is both well and cheerful. The carers are so kind to her and know how to ensure that she is calm and contented. My mother always looks well-dressed and
cared for and enjoys all the home-cooked food provided. We couldn't ask for more.

My mother has been in this home since 2014 and I have never known her happier. There is a warm friendly atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door. All the staff are very caring and the residents all complement the food and you never hear a word of complaint from the residents.

My mother was at St Mary's for 4 Years and was very well looked after. The home was very caring yet professional. My mother enjoyed the food which was all freshly prepared meals. At the end of her life, they gave her so much extra care. She ended her days there, which is what she wanted. They also gave
the family a lot of help after she died with practical matters. As we lived a long way away, this was extremely helpful and greatly appreciated.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.389)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.389) out of 10 for St Mary's House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.789 for St Mary's House is calculated as follows: ( (56 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.789
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Mary's House is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8, which has been reached with 6 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
