Park House is a family run care home, surrounded by scenic Buckinghamshire countryside, employing a long-standing, highly experienced team and applying values of quality care.

The focus is on promoting dignity, choice and respect at all times, with the home able to offer long-term care for residential needs, as well temporary respite.

Park House offers a homely environment, with staff ensuring they take time to know each resident, understand their background, preferences, likes and dislikes so care can be tailored to the individual; this will include preferences over particular foods/drink as well as activities for example.

My mother has been living at this care home for the past three years and for the first 2.5 years it was a good and positive experience home from home. She was well looked after and I always thought she would stay there as I was told when she went there that it was a home for life. However, when her
behaviour became unpredictable due to the worsening of her dementia, the staff were unable to cope with her anymore so I was asked to find her somewhere else that could better meet her needs. I successfully moved my mother and she is now in a specialist dementia care unit and the staff understand the condition and manage very well. Park House can cope as long as the resident is either happy to sit in a chair or lie in bed but I felt they failed my mother's needs when her behaviour changed. The statement about dementia care is misleading as really they are just a residential home and as a residential home, I feel the fees are too high when compared with what else is available.
Reply from Gillian Broadway, Registered Manager at Park HouseWe were sorry to see your mother go and have to admit that Park House was not the right environment for her. For 9 months we worked closely with the Memory Team and other healthcare professionals to try and find a way we could meet your mother's complex needs.
Park House is a small home catering for 24 residents with varying needs whom we have to consider when an individual becomes more challenging. We do understand your concerns of having to move your mother and tried our best to make that transition to a specialist environment as smooth as possible.

Lovely place that is homely and full of people who really care. The staff know all of the residents and what they like. They know my grandma likes milky coffee and hot chocolate to drink and buy in olives especially for her. I know that seems like a silly thing but it's exactly those things that really
matter for making someone feel cared for. Nothing is generic. They organise activities and pampering in a beautiful home and gardens and guests are always welcome to drop in. Where issues are raised someone is there to listen and try to find a resolution. Whether that's a different room, extra equipment or just updating grandmas wardrobe to something more comfortable. They will always keep my mum updated if there's any change in eating, behaviour or signs of illness. They will do their best to keep someone happily in there care for as long as they are able, even as my grandma's dementia progresses and her mobility reduces, we know she's in the best place to stay happy and comfortable.

My aunt has been resident at Park House for nearly two years. Choosing a care home for a relative is difficult and places vary so much that it can be hard to decide. However, the first time I walked into Park House, I knew this was the right place and continue to believe that she is getting the best
care.
Her needs are not straightforward as she suffers from dementia. The staff address this in a very professional mannerand I have every faith in them.
There is a wonderful cheerful, homely atmosphere at Park House and all the staff are very friendly and approachable. I am very impressed when I see how they interact with the residents.

My father stayed at Park House for about six months before his requirements changed and he needed more specialised care. During this time the care home staff and management were very kind and considerate, the family were always informed of any issues and interventions, which we then could plan together
his changing requirements. The home has a very friendly and family feel, the staff are very attentive and easily approachable, all the other residents I spoke to were happy and enjoyed the different activities that were arranged. The home is undergoing structural improvements at the moment, so it is good to see investment in the quality of the surroundings. I would have not hesitation in recommending this home for a loved one, my father always said he was happy and had a smile on his face when visited which was so comforting.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.541)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.541) out of 10 for Park House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.841 for Park House is calculated as follows: ( (90 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.841
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Park House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 35 registered maximum number of service users is 7, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
