Aveley Lodge is an award winning care home providing residential care for the elderly and those with dementia in a bright, warm and welcoming environment.

At Aveley Lodge Care Home, the team are very proud of the luxurious standard of accommodation and the high standards of both care and living environment offered by their lovely home. They pride themselves on providing and promoting a bright, warm and welcoming environment in which to live. Furthermore, the benefits of being all ground floor with no steps ensures freedom of movement for everyone. The first-class accommodation is based on three room grades: Standard, Superior and Deluxe. All 28 bedrooms, irrespective of grade, come with their own private en-suite facilities and are spacious, bright and well equipped with modern furniture designed for the care environment and access to the latest technology.

There is a hair salon on site, two courtyard gardens and a large rear landscaped sensory garden with spectacular views over the countryside which make for a relaxing and peaceful setting.

The care home has highly trained and experienced staff. All meals are home cooked and there is an activities team with many varied and interesting events and activities on offer to ensure residents are never bored.

Dad became a resident in November 2022 after mum passed away and social care refused him rights to return to his own home. Dad had suffered from a bad fall and was in hospital with mum at the same time. Moving into Aveley Lodge was a worrying time as he needed to familiarise himself in new accommodation
and being on his own for the first time in 65 years. I honestly don't know what I would have done without such a wonderful caring and supportive team. Dad loves his food and being cooked from scratch, was a major winning point. If hungry, dad would soon ask for more. He joins in with the activities that he is able to do. Having alzheimer's in dementia dad continues to receive excellent care and attention. He loves having a good hair cut and always looks smart and clean. He likes to sit in the garden overlooking the countryside with a visiting sheep or cow wandering in the fields. The rooms are lovely and all your needs have been thought of. This is a 'care home from home'!

My mother has lived at Avely Lodge for 9 months now. Despite having a substantial care package it had become increasingly difficult to meet her needs and she did not feel safe being alone at home.
Mum was well supported during during the settling in period and has consistently told me she feels content
and well cared for. I am pleased care staff respect her individual needs and preferences - she can be a bit of a quirky non conformist!
Other positives include excellent home cooked food, attractive rear garden looking over fields, light and bright internal decor, diverse weekday resident activities, 100% ground floor.

What a fantastic care home. Everyone is so helpful, they can't do enough for residents and visitors. Plenty of activities for residents, great food and company.


The facilities are exceptional, especially for a small establishment such as Aveley Lodge.

I am so pleased with this care home. My mother always looks clean and well dressed when I visit and the interior is kept very clean. The nursing side of things is good too, with the local surgery always politely informing me of issues or changes. The staff are friendly and caring and there is usually
a very good atmosphere. Residents are treated with courtesy. The home is run as a community so most residents are in the communal areas most of the day, This is good for mental health. There is also a nice garden and plenty of activities. I would highly recommend this excellent care home.

When I walk into Aveley Lodge I can feel the warmth and kindness that makes this care home so special. The staff are not only professional and highly skilled, but they also go above and beyond to ensure residents feel valued, respected, and genuinely cared for.


The atmosphere is welcoming and homely,

with every effort made to create a safe, comfortable, and stimulating environment. The activities are engaging and inclusive, and the home itself is beautifully maintained.


There is compassion and patience shown to each individual, treating every resident as though they were a member of their own family.

Dad moved into Aveley Lodge at the end of July 2024. The staff were excellent at getting him settled in and the dedicated activities team soon had him joining in with all the different activities that they were organising and spent much time finding out about his interests and his past. Sadly my mum
passed away in August and all the staff were fantastic with Dad and really supported us as a family during that sad time. Every member of staff knows each resident so well and can't do more to make them all comfortable and safe. Dad had a birthday in November and the chef made him a personalised cake which was so kind. I would highly recommend Aveley Lodge to anyone who is looking for an excellent home for their loved one.

My mother initially went into Aveley Lodge Care Home in October 2018 for three weeks whilst I was on holiday. Upon my return she was given the option of returning home or staying in Aveley Lodge permanently. She had no hesitation in saying that she wanted to stay there. She was in very good health initially
but after 9 months or so was diagnosed with Dementia which got worse as the years progressed. I was a very regular visitor and can honestly say that never once did I have any concern about how my mum was being cared for. She was always well presented, her hair was done beautifully and she even had her nails painted. I have nothing but thanks and praise for the wonderful staff who looked after her for the 6 years she was a resident. When it became evident that she was nearing the end of her life I was with her as much as I could, day and night and the staff still treated her with the love and dignity she had always received from them. Thank you so much.

I obviously am not a resident but reviewing what I have seen, what my dealings have been with staff and management and what my mother has said to me. The care home is well run and all the staff members are very helpful. My mother is very happy and tells me that the staff treat her well and she has her
favourite staff members. I only have dealings with two on-site managers who are extremely nice and helpful. I do not have much contact with higher management. Overall a good care home.

In relation to the comment about "higher management", the day-to-day running of the home is indeed met by the onsite RCHM and the team leader. The business owner attends Aveley Lodge almost every day to undertake maintenance work whilst the other business owner predominantly works from home. However, both of them are available at any time to speak with you or meet with you in person and are only too happy to arrange this with you should the need ever arise. Thank you.

My dad was in Aveley Lodge for just over 18 months. From the first interaction we had with the manager and the team they have been excellent. Dad was admitted to Aveley following the emergency hospitalisation of my mum at a time when I was isolating due to Covid. To say this was a stressful period would
be an understatement. However, the manager and the team came highly recommended and we came to see why. The individualised, personal and attentive care that Dad received throughout his stay made his last 18 months as comforting and enjoyable as they could be. This was noted throughout the team, whether they were care staff, housekeeping or the excellent entertainment team. Even the chef and kitchen team knew Dad's wants and needs and where possible responded to his personal situation. I would not hesitate the recommend it.

Our mother has been a resident at Aveley Lodge for approaching two years now, having been diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2021 and not being capable of looking after herself or safely take her medicine. She has a range of other conditions requiring medication to be taken throughout each day, including
morning injections for diabetes. Sadly her condition is slowly changing her, altering her personality and making her behaviour more erratic and difficult for those around her - both her fellow residents and staff - for which we apologise. All the staff at Aveley Lodge are dedicated, very caring, highly professional and generally excellent; keeping all residents comfortable and safe - treating all residents and their visitors with dignity and respect. The staff make great effort to create a happy care home environment, to urge participation in the various activities each day/week and to encourage the positive engagement with our mother despite her variable behaviour.

I visit my sister on a regular basis and always find the staff happy, caring and very helpful if I have any queries about my sister. The new visitor's room where visitors can make themselves tea, coffee and hot chocolate is a welcome bonus.

Our mother has been a resident at Aveley Lodge Care Home for over six years due to Alzheimer's dementia and has been incredibly happy and well cared for throughout. She sadly passed away on the 24th May. The palliative care she received demonstrated compassion dignity and respect. This treatment was
further extended to my sister and I, as we spent countless hours at our mum’s bedside. We cannot fault the care received. The staff at Aveley were like a second family and we could not have chosen a better place for our lovely mum to spend her final years.
For any family looking to place a loved one within a care setting, which is a huge decision, we would highly recommend Aveley Lodge and know that your loved one is in safe hands and will receive excellent care, stimulation and good quality of life in their final years.

Our mother was a resident at Aveley Lodge from December 2017 to December 2022 when she passed away. Our experience at Aveley Lodge has always been very positive. During this time she was always clean and well presented. There was a genuine fondness for her by the staff who were kind and treated her
with dignity. She was blind and deaf and they made every effort to include her in activities.
When it was necessary for her to move rooms due to building work she was given a choice of rooms, one being particularly suitable for her with double aspect windows, which made it lighter and was helpful for her loss of sight.
When she passed away the staff were incredible. Their kindness and consideration made it much easier for us. Thank you to all.

The staff at Aveley Lodge treat the residents as if they were family. They are treated as individuals and attention is paid to their individual likes and dislikes. My mum has lost the ability to initiate conversations (she has severe Alzheimer's) but the warmth of the relationships with staff is still
evident as she will blow them kisses and hug them. There has been a change of registered care manager this year but the family-run ethos remains and the manager is clearly determined to keep everyone as independent as possible for as long as possible and ensure everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Mum can have breakfast whatever time she wants it (and can always have her favourite, porridge even if she is asking for breakfast at the wrong time of day) and the on-site cooked meals are delicious. We've been really pleased with the quality of care she has received.

It has been very difficult to cope with the fact that my wife had to go into a care home and that I could no longer look after her. However Aveley Lodge, for three years now, has done a wonderful job in caring for her and keeping her safe. She appears to be very happy and all the staff do their utmost

In the twelve months up to March 2022, I have been a volunteer at Aveley Lodge attending one day a week when I have taken responsibility for garden maintenance and the tidiness of the external site. During the time when it has been possible for volunteer personnel to assist with the activities programme
for residents, I have spent part of my day working to the direction of the activities organiser. This has included a number of resident-related activities but has principally developed into games of 'Scrabble' played with a regular group of residents who, I believe, find the activity enjoyable and satisfying. By negotiation, it was agreed that I should take lunch with the residents and this has become an occasion when there has been a meaningful exchange of conversation. I am grateful both for the opportunity to repay the kindness shown to my wife in the 30 months she was resident at Aveley Lodge prior to her death and for the welcome that staff and managers have shown me as a volunteer.

My Aunt has been a resident at Aveley for around 6 years now. We have always been satisfied with the level of care which she has received during this time and we have certainly noticed an improvement in her general and mental health. The staff are kind, caring, and attentive to her needs. The food is
excellent and the general ambience of the home is warm and friendly. The level of activities that are organised on a day-to-day basis for the enjoyment of the residents is incredible, there is always something going on! Whilst the last couple of years have been extremely difficult with the COVID situation, the Owner and Management Team have handled this magnificently, closely adhering to the Government guidelines and recommendations at all times thereby ensuring the safety of both residents and staff alike. Communication by way of the monthly newsletter is brilliant and keeps both residents and relatives fully up-to-date with what's going on in the home.

Michael Parmenter & Deborah Parmenter-King

Job Title: Business Owners

Aveley Lodge Care Home, previously known as Aveley Lodge Retirement Home, was officially opened on 25th July 1989 by Robin Parmenter, the father of the current owners, Michael and Deborah. Having grown up immersed in the family business, Michael and Deborah took over full ownership in 2006 when Robin retired, and they have transformed Aveley Lodge into the care home you see today. They are both very passionate about care, passionate about Aveley Lodge, and passionate about individuals receiving the care, dignity and respect they deserve. They both strongly believe that all those in care should and must be treated fairly and compassionately and that the care offered is governed by our Home’s key principles as well as effective communication, total professionalism, and absolute attention to detail. Keeping Aveley Lodge a small and informal family-run care home has always been central to their ethos. They enjoy the opportunity of giving those in their twilight years a chance to spend their final days in a safe, pleasurable and relaxing environment that they have created here at Aveley Lodge.

Stephanie Philbrick

Job Title: Registered Care Home Manager Joined: 2016

Stephanie has worked in the Social Care industry for many years, having started her career at the age of 15, working in various roles across Essex. Eventually, after working her way up through the ranks, she worked for Essex County Council’s Social Services as an Area Manager, where she stayed for 16 years. After taking redundancy, Stephanie initially joined Aveley Lodge as our Team Leader, bringing with her her wealth of knowledge and experience. She was promoted to the position of Registered Manager in Winter 2022.

Job Title: Assistant Manager Joined: 2018

After leaving school, Tina worked in London at the Co-op Bullion centre. After 18 years, she moved on to work in the Finance, Payroll and HR departments with a franchise of the Bodyshop and was responsible for 18 of their stores. After 22 years however, Tina was made redundant when the franchise was sold off. Tina moved to the Colchester area in 2018 and started working at Aveley Lodge in May 2018 as a carer assistant. In 2020, Tina achieved her Level Three in Health and Social Care and was promoted to a senior role. In July 2023, Tina became the Senior Lead before being appointed Assistant Manager in July 2024. Tina is also one of our Oral Hygiene Champions for the Home.

Katy Warne

Job Title: HR Manager Joined: 2016

Katy began her career in care in 2016 when she joined Aveley Lodge as a care assistant. Having had no previous care experience, she very quickly took to her job role and showed potential to go far. By 2018, Katy was promoted to Senior Care Assistant and by early 2020, she took on the role of Assistant Team Manager before being promoted in Autumn 2020 to HR Manager. Katy is currently responsible for all matters relating to our staff’s wellbeing, recruitment and training.

Suzanne

Suzanne Parmenter

Job Title: Administrator & PR Manager Joined: 2010

Suzanne graduated from the University in 2004 with a 2:1 (upper second) degree in Law. She went on to work for several years at a local law firm as a Paralegal, where she specialised in Mental Health Law, providing her with a good insight and understanding into working with those with mental health issues across the East Anglian region, including those with dementia. She joined Aveley Lodge in January 2010 for a complete career change and to work alongside and support her husband and business owner, Michael Parmenter, as our HR Manager. Suzanne completed her Level 5 in Business and Administration in 2012 and then took on the role of our Administrator & PR Manager in 2016. She is also one of our Oral Hygiene Champions for the Home and our Homes Environmental / Green Lead.
