After 9 months of Mum's first year at Aveley Lodge, I see passionate staff dedicated to the resident's needs and real commitment. It is a very happy place and atmosphere for visitors with a huge variety of activities. Where else can you learn French and Spanish, have themed days with costumes and food to compliment the event, be Snow White in the "pantomime," enter the commonwealth games, play ball from a wheelchair, have an owl on your arm and a snake around your neck (not at the same time!) At 91 yrs old! Personal care is something Mum has to get used to as she is proud and gets embarrassed, but the staff are understanding and encourage her not to worry so much.

The care my father has received over the previous 16 months has greatly enhanced his enjoyment of life. He has been well cared for, well fed and has had company when he wanted it and privacy when he didn't. His views and wishes have always been listened to and he has been treated with respect at all times.

I have been resident at Aveley Lodge for approximately three months and from my first day here, (although I was very poorly), my impression of the folk I came into contact with is that I have landed in the right home.
Three months have gone by. I am now much better and having interacted with all the staff my opinion remains the same as my first day. Bless them all.

In fact, one of my friends will be coming here to reside. Her family has made this life-changing decision for her.

My Mum has been at Aveley Lodge just 3 months now but I've seen a big improvement in her condition. Her dementia has stabilised and, on some occasions, her memory is improving. The caregivers are extremely good, along with the relaxing surroundings, is having a big impact.

My mother has settled extremely well, the staff are extremely caring and helpful. Everything is geared to making the residents feel as though they are in their home, nothing seems to be too much trouble for the staff and catering is as good as homemade.

The care and attention given to my mother have been exceptional. Her earrings are matched to her clothes when they dress her. She is encouraged to exercise and join in activities. Thanks to them she is now back to herself following a couple of falls and a broken hip.

I visited my Mum nearly every day while she lived in Aveley Lodge Care Home. I could not fault the care given to her by all the staff and management there.

She celebrated her 100th birthday there with a wonderful party for the family, friends and all the residents - all organised by the staff. Sadly, she died 10 days later - peacefully.

As a volunteer now, I help to run a cookery club for the residents which they enjoy - especially the cooking!!

I have been coming to Aveley Lodge as a volunteer with my dog Lucy for the past year. We have always been made welcome. We have always been made welcome. The residents and staff love Lucy and it was clear it gave many a great deal of pleasure and enabled them to talk about past pets. I have been present during activity time and seen the care and consideration given to residents by staff. There has always been laughter and plenty of staff in attendance should any resident need them. It is homely, welcoming, clean and has good security. It is a family run care home and it's clear the owners are both involved on a regular basis and are committed to producing excellent care.

Each visit I make to see my Mum the experience is the same. Greeted by staff, an update on how my Mum is. They tell me where she is in the lounge or bed. They are always chatting to Mum when they pass by her. Everything is to my satisfaction.

This small family run care home far surpasses any expectations you may have of residential care for the elderly. The happy faces of the residents is all thanks to the amazing network of staff who work tirelessly to deliver an extremely high level of care as well as providing genuine comfort and kindness resulting in the residents feeling totally secure. There are various daily activities which are stimulating but also really good fun including the very popular cooking club.

Family and friends are also made to feel very welcome and are encouraged to join in various events - the tea afternoons are not to be missed.

It's never an easy decision to move a loved one into care, however, I really do feel moving my lovely mum to Aveley Lodge was absolutely the right decision and I truly do highly recommend this wonderful place.

I recently became a volunteer with the activities team at Aveley Lodge. I have found Aveley Lodge to be a welcoming, warm and homely care home.

Inside the environment is light, comfortable and relaxing. The staff are attentive and caring towards the residents and treat them with respect and dignity. As well as providing personal care, a range of activities are offered on a regular basis. This includes such things as arts and crafts, knitting, games and light exercises etc which provides further stimulation, interests and social interaction for the majority of the residents. I would recommend Aveley Lodge to family and friends.

Review from Chris B (Cousin of Resident) published on 19 October 2017 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

During the five years of my contact with Aveley Lodge, I was totally confident that the management always acted in the best interests of their clients. In the time that my cousin was a resident, I also watched with interest as an extensive programme of building development and improvement of the facilities took place; this was very well thought through and resulted in first-class premises of which the owners can be justifiably proud.

The care given to my cousin was at all times cheerful, thorough and compassionate, even when she was quite difficult to deal with. Her very special, high-level needs were addressed extremely professionally.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Aveley Lodge to anyone - except for the fear that were too many people to apply for residency, there might no longer be a room available for me when the time comes!

Michael Parmenter & Deborah Parmenter-King Job Title:Business Owners

Aveley Lodge Care Home, previously known as Aveley Lodge Retirement Home, was officially opened on 25th July 1989 by Robin Parmenter, the father of the current owners, Michael and Deborah. Having grown up immersed in the family business, Michael and Deborah took over full ownership in 2006 when Robin retired, and they have transformed Aveley Lodge into the care home you see today. They are both very passionate about care, passionate about Aveley Lodge, and passionate about individuals receiving the care, dignity and respect they deserve. They both strongly believe that all those in care should and must be treated fairly and compassionately and that the care offered is governed by our Home’s key principles as well as effective communication, total professionalism, and absolute attention to detail. Keeping Aveley Lodge a small and informal family-run care home has always been central to their ethos. They enjoy the opportunity of giving those in their twilight years a chance to spend their final days in a safe, pleasurable and relaxing environment that they have created here at Aveley Lodge.
