We visited my relative on 22nd November. It happened to be entertainment afternoon and we were invited to have lunch with our relative and other patients. This proved to be an excellent afternoon with patients and staff thoroughly enjoying it all. The atmosphere proved to be very good indeed. Patients who were able to get up with the help from staff enjoyed a little dance. Everyone enjoying the afternoon. We were sorry to leave at the end of our visit.

Reply from Tracy Delannoy, Registered Manager at St Dominics Residential Home

Many thanks for your review. We realise the importance of a full and varied activities programme. That was the first time that particular entertainer had visited us and we have already booked him to visit again. It was lovely to see so many residents and staff up and dancing as well as some relatives.

Review based upon first 4 weeks of my mother's care.

So far, I am absolutely delighted with everything. Knowing that my mother is in such safe hands in terms of care, comfort, welfare and socialising, has relieved me of enormous worry and stress and provided her with a safe and nurturing environment. My family and I are made welcome to visit at any time, just like being at home.

Thank you for taking the time to review our home. Although first and foremost are our residents' needs, we realise that this can be a difficult and stressful time for family members also. It is good to know that we are making a difference in your lives as well.

My mother has been resident at St. Dominics for six months and has settled very well, which bearing in mind she suffers from Alzheimer's, we thought she might struggle. The staff are extremely attentive and have got to know my mother extremely well very quickly, and respond to her issues with compassion. They do not hesitate to contact me if they are at all concerned and this has been borne out in the last couple of weeks when mum has been particularly agitated and by just calling me to speak to her on the phone, has settled the issues. A weekly routine of phone calls to my mother has now been suggested and seems to be doing the trick. Mum herself says she is happy and that if it is a care home she needs to be in, then St. Dominics is where she wants to be! Whenever we visit there is always a calm and happy atmosphere.

My mother has been resident for well over two years. She has dementia but has really enjoyed her time here and has a great relationship with her carers. All the residents are different characters, some more demanding than others, but I think they are well looked after by a dedicated staff.

Thank you for your lovely review. It is always so nice to hear about good experiences, especially about the relationships that are formed with the carers. It really does show them that their hard work and dedication is appreciated.

Most of the carers are very good. I am unable to join in a lot of activities due to poor eyesight. The staff do offer to help me to take part in bingo, for instance.

I cannot fault the housekeeping staff. If I have a problem and mention it to management, it is dealt with promptly.

Reply from Tracy Delannoy, Registered Manager at St Dominics Residential Home

Thank you for your lovely review. It is always pleasing to receive feedback about positive experiences, especially from those receiving care. It was lovely of you to mention our housekeeping staff who not only keep the home looking and smelling splendid but also take the time to chat with you and the other residents. Finally, I am glad to know you feel any concerns raised are dealt with promptly.

St Dominics has provided our relative with a support structure whilst still letting him feel relatively independent, with choices about how he chooses to spend his time.
The 24 hour care is a great relief for the family.
We feel the staff know him well and that there is continuity of staff. They are all very friendly, kind and capable and we feel confident he is in good hands.

You can visit at any time and see staff engaging warmly with clients.

I cannot speak more highly of St Dominics Residential Home. My mother was a resident for more than three years, During that time I obviously made numerous visits and I can say that on each occasion, I was always impressed with the consideration shown by members of staff to all residents.

Although I know my mum could be "difficult" at times she could not have been shown more care and love during her final few days and was shown dignity and respect by all. Thank you.

This is an older, independently owned care home which is run for profit so staffing levels are maintained with this in mind. The room I am familiar with and the home overall is a little dated but is quite adequate and kept in a good state of repair. Everyone I am familiar with, carers, management, office, kitchen and cleaning staff are all friendly, professional and keen to do their jobs in a caring fashion. I have had lunch at the home several times and the food has always been excellent, comparable with a good restaurant.

My father is very happy at St Dominics. It really is 'home' to him. Staff are wonderful and so courteous to him and to us when we visit. Food is prepared and cooked on site and is varied and nutritious. I cannot fault anything.

Activity programme is varied, well thought out and fun. Since being at St Dominics, my father's well-being has improved 100%. I cannot recommend St Dominics more. It is a fantastic care home.

What a lovely review. Thank you. We hope this will show our staff, across all departments, that they are appreciated and getting the care right for your dad. Obviously, our primary concern is your dad but meeting family’s expectations is also important to us and we are pleased you have voiced this. We are very excited to share in your dad’s forthcoming birthday celebrations.
