Rooted in the Christian faith, life at Luff House supports residents to live fulfilled lives in their later years. They provide excellent, personalised care which supports residents to flourish in older age.

Luff House has an active social life in which residents can take part or follow their own pursuits. They appreciate that each resident has their own individual interests, hobbies and pastimes, and they endeavour to support residents to maintain this important part of their lives. Their residents are encouraged to lead the lifestyle that they choose, doing as much or as little as they want - residents can simply choose to put their feet up with a daily paper (by arrangement) or a good book from the County Library which visits every month, or from the home’s own collection.

Their weekly programme includes activities such as craft, knitting and sewing groups, armchair and active exercise, music sessions, poetry and reminiscence, gardening, flower arranging and cake baking sessions.
Various visiting entertainments and church groups visit on a regular basis. Several hairdressers visit throughout the week. A mobile clothing supplier allows for a little retail therapy in the comfort of your own home, together with occasional craft displays and coffee mornings.

Their Christian faith is at the heart of both their values and their actions. At Luff House they try to create a community where Christian worship, prayer and support are a core part of daily life. They have daily devotions, a mid-week service and regular communion services in the home. There is an evangelical church just across the road and transport is provided by the church.

These fees are valid between 1st April 2025 and 31st March 2026 and are reviewed annually. The Registered Manager will assess you prior to admission to determine the level of care provision required. Mum was a resident of Luff House for 2 and 1/2 years. her dementia increased during her stay and the care team were always attentive to her needs. The music and activities were a favourite of mum's.
Unfortunately we mum's increasing needs, Luff House worked with us to find a more suitable place for
mum.
All of the staff with whom mum and our family met were always compassionate and understanding of mum's needs.
When the time came to transfer mum to a higher dependency provider, the management team and care team were supportive and helpful. The day mum left there were sincere emotions from the staff, who clearly had genuinely grown fond of mum and care for her.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. It was a real joy to care for your mum, and it was with much regret that she had to leave Luff House, where she had become a big part of the Luff family. We hope that she is happy in her new home, and we wish her and all her family all the best for the future.

My father spent the last two months of his life at Luff House. He was stimulated, entertained, looked after and loved by the wonderful team of carers and volunteers.
My sister and I feel so grateful and blessed that he was so cared for and loved in his final days. This place and the entire team of
staff, are nothing short of wonderful.

I liked this home because it is small with only 28 residents which made it feel homely. I have found efficient and caring staff throughout the home and nothing is too much trouble. The menu is varied each day and residents preferences are noted. Varied activities each day make life stimulating and give
residents a better quality of life than they would have at home.

The staff at Luff House have been very kind and supportive of my uncle and have really helped him to settle in.
The manager has been particularly understanding and helpful in arranging additional carers so that Uncle can go out for walks, do some shopping and visit the seaside.

I'm very happy to see my uncle well looked after and cared for. No care home is perfect, but the staff genuinely care and help when needed. The managers are particularly understanding and sympathetic. My wife often looks at the home's Facebook page - great photos which help when it comes to interacting
with my relative on 'difficult' days. The Christian standpoint is demonstrated throughout the home, often in action and sometimes with words. Long may it continue. I'm happy to recommend this home.

My two-week respite care provided me with the post-operative environment I needed before going home to manage alone. Aids were provided in the ensuite and I was free to do as little or as much as I could. Corridors gave me safe walking practice. The staff were friendly and I could join in the activities.
Observing disability and dementia was a learning experience. The staff had patience and politeness at all times and praised the care home.

Luff house, cared so well for my mum who had dementia and physical needs. Despite her great needs, she was always involved in the many activities that they provided. The Christian ethos of the home underpins everything they do and when my mum was in Palliative care Hummingbirds spent time sitting with
her, reading, chatting, praying and playing music. The staff are wonderful and get to know their residents and their needs well. It was always obvious how much they loved their residents and were always welcoming to visitors.

To put a loved one into a care home is a decision not to be taken lightly especially having had a previously bad experience. There are still feeling of guilt and it is a constant worry as to whether you have made the best choice of care home. After reading CQC reports and speaking to people whose relatives
had been in Luff House, I made the decision and my husband, who has Vascular Dementia, was admitted for 4 weeks of respite. I have no doubt that we made the right choice. During his stay, he was treated with care and compassion by all members of staff. They were patient, gentle, kind, encouraging and vigilant. I visited daily and was always welcomed. My questions were answered and advice given willingly. Based on my experience I would recommend Luff House.
The staff trainer using The Way with Care as her course basis. I found her knowledgeable and helpful and her rapport with patients was obvious for all to see. If courses were extended to carers I would attend.

The whole staff team were excellent and very kind and caring. Mum had a good respite stay. Quite a few residents had dementia and social contact was limited mainly to staff, but that said she enjoyed her stay.

The staff are absolutely wonderful as are the living conditions. Everyone aims to please both residents and their visitors.
Many activities organised each day, and even an afternoon tea and cake in the gardens as a group was organised, my mum was so happy to be mixing with other residents over a relaxed
cup of tea in the garden it kept her talking about it for ages.
New restaurant and TV lounge recently finished adds to a little extra choice for interacting with others.
Mum has her hair washed and set every week, this brings a bit of normalcy between her old life and her new one.
During these unusual times, it has not always been totally clear what the home would allow visitors to do or not do regarding visits, a little easier now and a bit more relaxed. I think the policies were always there, just not always conveyed clearly. If that is the only negative it is a very small one.

We had a bad experience with another care home in this area and my dad was very upset. Since we moved him to Ernest Luff, my dad is happier, calmer and the staff have helped him settle in and feel like one of their family. When we visit him he is always clean and tidy and well dressed and praises all
the carers that they always bring him his tea! A very well kept, clean and secure home.

My father, who has always been an awkward man, loves being in the home. He loves all the helpers, enjoys the food and has stopped asking when he can go home. Luff House is clean and the staff are all helpful and kind.

I feel completely confident that my mum is well cared for. The staff are always happy to answer questions about her care or welfare and provide reassurance when needed. I believe the home is very well managed and goes to a good deal of trouble to draw the surrounding community in. If I were to become
a resident at a home, I would hope it was Luff House.

Mum was made to feel very welcome. Staff treated her with affection and patience. Mum even became confident enough to join in some activities - something she's never done before. The hummingbird lady was lovely. Time was always found for me if I wanted to discuss anything. When a problem arose, staff
were quick to acknowledge the issue and deal with it effectively, which was reassuring. Above all was the Christian atmosphere which Mum had wanted to experience in her final years.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.020)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.020) out of 10 for Luff House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.627 for Luff House is calculated as follows: ( (38 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 59 Ratings = 4.627

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.393 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Luff House is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.6 = 0.893

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
