Bridgemead Nursing Home

A lovely home for my Mum, where the Christian ethos shines through, and the kind & friendly staff care holistically for the family members. My Mum enjoys the delicious meals, the daily devotions time, and afternoon activities that range from cheese tasting to piano concerts.
She has a very comfortable
room with beautiful views over the River Avon, where wildlife and a variety of passing watercraft provide added entertainment! Her medical needs are well-managed, and she receives excellent care in a timely manner from both day and night staff.
Bridgemead's managers and the building maintenance specialist were all really efficient, helpful and accommodating during my Mum's transition into residential care, ensuring that everything went smoothly, and that her room really feels like home, with her familiar pictures on the walls. She has access to a good WiFi signal to keep in contact easily with family and friends, and we ourselves also feel very welcomed by staff whenever we visit my Mum.

Reply from Elizabeth Goodsman, Business Manager at Bridgemead Nursing Home

Thank you so much for taking time to leave such an encouraging and detailed review about Bridgemead. It is always a pleasure to welcome new family members to Bridgemead and the whole team work hard to make sure that everyone is welcomed and helped to feel at home. It's a joy for us to get to know your mum and to care for her, and I'm pleased that the move has been a positive experience. We are blessed with lovely views of the river and it's wonderful to know that our Christian ethos shines through as this is central to all that we do.

Our experience both in the lead up to my mum's move to Framland, and the settling in period following, has been excellent. The home has a friendly, caring, family environment, and the setting is lovely. Communication has been easy and efficient. The rooms are well equipped and homely. Staff are exceptional
- everyone has been so helpful and welcoming, and mum is being extremely well cared for. I think what sets it apart is that it in no way feels like an "institutional" setting. It really feels like a home with an extended family. It's lovely for mum to be with others who share her faith, and some of whom she has known for years. I don't think we could have settled on a better home for her.

Throughout my father's stay at Finborough Court I observed first hand the care, conscientiousness and dignity that the staff treated and served him with. Being in such pleasant and positive surroundings proved to be such a tonic to dad in the later stages of his life. Over the time he was a resident
I saw his personality shine and blossom. Much of this was due to the surroundings and environment, of love that was communicated by all who served at Finborough. I'm so glad that we took the step that we did as a family that gave dad those precious final years in this welcoming well run and friendly care home.

My father was welcomed to Finborough Court with care and respect. He settled quickly due to the great atmosphere and friendship of the team. The home is run professionally and attention is given to each resident and changed as needed. My father was very content and we as a family felt very confident
that all was being done to make his last days the best they could be. The family are so grateful to the whole team at Finborough Court for all the kindness shown to Dad and us when we visited. It truly was the best place for Dad and we will remain so grateful to all folk who make the home special.

Outstanding care from a truly compassionate team.

My mother lived at Finborough Court for almost four years until her recent passing. She had dementia and was profoundly deaf, yet the staff always found thoughtful ways to communicate with her, and treated her with such kindness, dignity, and patience.

They really are an amazing team. During her final days, I stayed five nights and saw how exceptional the night staff were wearing pyjamas to avoid confusing residents at night was just one of many small, caring touches, working together like a well oiled machine! They gently cared for mum and supported me too - with warmth and compassion I'll never forget. I'm deeply grateful for the care she received. However, I do feel the need to mention the cost - almost £8,000 every four weeks - which places a huge burden on families and deserves review.

Reply from Karen Bleay, Manager at Finborough Court

Thank you for the lovely comments. I'm so glad that your mum received such compassionate and inclusive care, with staff even wearing their pyjamas at night to help residents feel settled! It was an absolute privilege to care for your lovely mum. Please rest assured that we do our very best to keep costs as low as we can while delivering great, person-centred care and community at all times, as well as investing in our wonderful staff.

The staff at Milward House go over and above to ensure that the residents are valued, loved, cared for and are happy. Nothing is ever too much trouble. The home has a Christian foundation, with all residents having an active faith. This is respected, encouraged and fed through regular services and activities.
The residents have just been on their annual 'staycation' to Wales. Sue, the activities coordinator, did an amazing job encouraging learning, engagement and fun activities about all things Welsh. I happened to visit when the ice cream van turned up, playing it's happy tune, which brought much enjoyment, and, no doubt brought back memories to many.
I am very happy that I can rest assured that Mum is being well looked after and loved by the staff at Milward. I feel we, as a family, are so fortunate to have Mum in such a great home. Thank you to all at Milward for going over and above to look after Mum and ensuring she is well looked after, happy and loved.

After a long journey to find the right place for my friend she walked into Shottermill House and loved the environment instantly. If fact she did not want to go home as she was so happy.
Soon afterwards my friend moved into Shottermill House. She walked around for ages saying I can't believe I now
live here. I see my friend's happy face, well cared for, meeting all her needs. She has made friends. She can now voice her own needs which she could not do before. She has fitted into Shottermill life like a glove. My friend loves the daily devotions, she enjoys the food and the choices she is offered. The daily activities and outings are so meaningful for her. She loves walking around the garden. I am at peace knowing my friend is at peace. Thank you Shottermill team

Mum came to Middlefields House at the end of her life and she was treated by each member of staff with such kindness, respect and dignity. I will always be so grateful because Mum had been going through a difficult and painful time at home and the staff managed to help her to be comfortable and at peace.
I too felt held and cared for. Every single member of staff I came across- the cafe staff, the receptionists, the carers, the care managers, the administrative staff- I felt, was genuinely caring and wanting to be of service.
Without hesitation this would be the care home for me.

On the occasion of my first contact with Middlefields, I was so distressed about my parents' situation - my sister and I + our families live abroad) and the Business manager - a wonderful woman who has such a gift of calming people - really took the time to listen to us and reassure us. I left the home
feeling hopeful for the first time in a long time!
To know that our mother - who suffers from Alzheimer - is now safe and so well cared for at Middlefields is such a relief to our father, my sister, our families and me.
My last visit at home was so traumatic - my mother would not allow me to do anything to really help her, as she did not recognise me.
Visiting her at Middlefields was such a contrast - I could leave the everyday tasks to the delightful staff and could enjoy quality time with my mother in the lovely gardens, just listening to her or stroking her hair while she soaked up the sun.
This was such a gift to me - real memories to be cherished forever!
Thank-you so much!!

Bridgemead Nursing Home

from Jenny S (Daughter of Resident) published on 22 May 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My 92 year old mother moved into Bridgemead just under a year ago. She has been very disabled having had a stoke 5 years ago now. My 93 year old father had been looking after her with the help of carers at home but it was becoming increasingly difficult. Mum did try Bridgemead for a week of respite
care before moving in permanently last July. As a small care home she quickly got to know the staff and other residents. She is confined to a wheelchair so it is very important that she feels part of the community as she cannot move around independently. She appreciates the activities, communal mealtimes and also seems get much comfort from the spiritual support offered.
As a family we are always warmly welcomed and any concerns are listened to. My father attends for Sunday lunch every week and appreciates the good standard of food!
I would not hesitate to recommend this care home for it's friendly care and support.

with many activities for the residents to join in if they wish. It is far better than any l have visited in the past.

Milward House

from Julia M (Resident) published on 21 May 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Overall the care I received at Milward House was excellent. The staff were kind & courteous. I very much enjoyed the Christian aspect & input.
In general the food was excellent. The breakfast and lunch meals were varied & tasty.
The suppers that were served at around 6pm, were rather uninteresting
& unappetising in the way they were presented to me. Mostly, the GF bread provided was very dry & thick sliced with their crusts left on. This meant they had to be held with both hands to make any impact when biting and were difficult to swallow.
My room was on the 3rd floor. It was quiet & had a pleasant view & was easily accessed by the lift. The only drawback back was there was no en-suite which meant I had to use a commode. (This was emptied promptly on request.)
The nearest flushing toilet to my room was up a short flight of stairs which I did not want to attempt in the middle of the night! However the toilet facilities on the ground floor were plentiful and easy to access.

Reply from Sid Martin, Business Manager at Milward House

Many thanks for your review recognising the excellent care you received and the kind staff that served you.I am sorry the gluten free bread was not to your expectations, but we were reliant on what we could source from local supermarkets. Review of

Milward House

The building feels more like a hotel than a care home, though the very limited grounds are a pity. Staff are caring and friendly. There are a variety of activities and outings.
Despite mentioning on several occasions that we didn't want mother dressed in stained or ripped clothing this happens on several
occasions.
Mother is settled and happy.

Reply from Sid Martin, Business Manager at Milward House

Many thanks for your recognition of the caring and friendly staff here at Milward: the meaningful interactions between staff and residents are the main way in which we can demonstrate person-centred care and it is so encouraging to see mother thrive in this environment.I am sorry that you feel that clothes have been stained or ripped: I am not aware of this myself, so please do chat with me in person when you are next in about your concerns. One reason may be that we enable mother to paint her lovely pictures and paint sometimes gets on her clothes, but clothes are put on clean each morning, even if they then attract marks through the day at mealtimes etc.
