We were very impressed by the standard of care provision, going beyond very good basic care, extending to pastoral care and daily activities to suit an elderly Christian. Support is also provided to resident's families through meetings provided by management and 'The way we care' team, and reception
staff are very friendly.
Cleanliness was excellent and the building facilities are fantastic being newly purpose-built, with wonderful shared activity spaces for activities including church services.
We liked the layout of the four households, each with its own lounge/dining area, with a homely arrangement of furniture, rather than a care home feel.
Care itself was of a very good standard, we were never once concerned that it was lacking, and when our aunt became immobile, extra provision of special chair and mattress etc was provided, and we always felt the care team were approachable. In her last weeks, both care and pastoral support were excellent. It was everything we wished for.
Reply from Sarah Stockinger, Business Manager at Middlefields HouseThank you so much for taking the time to give such detailed and encouraging feedback. We have the most fantastic teams who all give their very best to ensure all our family members are loved and well cared for - along with providing and maintaining a beautiful home to live in. There is always so much going on with a variety of appropriate activities and sincere pastoral care that makes for a wonderful environment, with community at its core. It is such an honour and privilege for us to care for those living with us until they step into glory and share with loved ones the goodness of God.

I am delighted to have found this very caring care home for my mum. From the first day of moving in, the management and carers have always taken the time to make mum feel happy, active and safe in her world that has become more and more confusing with her increasing dementia. As a religiously based
care home, I have come to realise through her time at Milward House, how important mum's faith is to her. It is clear that ethos engenders fellowship and a wonderful sense of community spirit and mutual respect between the residents which is matched and complemented by the management and staff. Milward House has become mum's home and thank you so much for the care you provide and how you have made that happen.
Reply from Sid Martin, Business Manager at Milward HouseThank you so much for your kind words and recognition of the person-centred care we offer, and the value of the Christian support that is so important to our residents. It is a delight to have mum living with us and we are glad that you and she enjoy her being here so much.

My mother has been at Emmaus for over two years now and really values the individual care, and genuine 'home from home ' feel - this is typified by the use of 'our Emmaus family' rather than being a 'resident.' This wonderful place offers the opportunities for the development of new and significant
friendships in later life, and at the heart of this is the firm, compassionate and inclusive commitment to faith - modelled by the carers and management, in all they provide for this family. My mother said recently,' Nothing is too much trouble ' both in terms of her physical, intellectual, and emotional needs, and that she feels respected, and listened to.
From our family's perspective, we always receive a genuine and warm welcome, and love being able to join with the Emmaus family for special events and meals taken with our loved one. I can see just what a positive effect the overall experience of Emmaus has had on my mother's life .I thoroughly recommend this loving and unique place.

A fantastic care home. The home is modern and clean, and the staff are brilliant. The recently refurbished lounge is a lovely homely room, with comfortable seating and different flexible areas for watching TV, chatting in small groups or with visiting family and friends, but is easily transformed for
taking part or watching any of the events, games, quizzes and visits from outside guests and entertainers that are regularly organised.
There is a real family feel to Emmaus House, many of the staff have worked there for decades, and are really devoted to the home and the residents. The food is excellent, with choices at each meal. Once a month they have an "armchair travel" day, visiting a different country, with crafts, videos and quizzes about the chosen destination, and the menu for that day has food from the region too. Very entertaining!
I would highly recommend Emmaus House to anyone looking for a care home for a family member.
Reply from Kelly Hurton, Business Manager at Emmaus HouseThank you so much for your kind review. We are also over the moon with our new lounge/dining area - our family members have had lots of positive things to say about it. We also love our armchair travel days! A very good friend had the misfortune to believe that this home would enable her to flourish and have good company. Sadly she spent just under a year rapidly declining. The staff kept her in bed with a catheter and latterly in wet pads. The room smelt of stale urine, and my friend, who whilst at home
showered daily, was only given a cursory wash. There was a pervading atmosphere of conformity and she was treated as though she was without competency. Fortunately my friend moved into a wonderful care home and within a month she has received excellent care and is actively participating in the life of the home. This home does not advertise itself as Christian, but all the staff surround the residents and visitors with love and genuine Christian values. Importantly, my friend is clean and relishes having a bath or shower, her diet has vastly improved, and she is able to make lots of new friends. She is thriving and has started 2026 with a zest for life. In 2025 she lost the will to live.

The staff were always welcoming and the carers were very kind, considerate and compassionate. The home itself was clean and it

Following a decline in Mum's health the family and GP agreed it was best to look into care options for her safety and wellbeing. As next of kin I was overwhelmed with information and after some resource discovered Emmaus House as a possible option. Emmaus House is in a beautiful location opposite Valley
Gardens, a park Mum loves and as a family we grew up in the local area.

I visited Emmaus House and was welcomed by the team and quickly felt at ease and all my questions were answered, the Christian ethos is evident without being overbearing and the team clearly are passionate about the care they provide.

Mum has now lived at Emmaus house on respite care for 6 weeks, her health has improved significantly and she has engaged well with the fantastic routine of great food, company and care. The transition from living at home was always going to be emotional and difficult for Mum and the family, Emmaus House team have been incredible at every step of the journey.

Since March 2025 when my mother moved Milward House, my family and I have been struck by the commitment, warmth and trustworthiness of all the staff. Although the changing state of my mother's health is hard to see, I am comforted by the happy atmosphere and the team spirit that support residents and
families alike. Daily activities are varied, such as art, music, baking, visits from the local primary school and quizzes of all kinds. The daily acts of worship are led with great sincerity and everyone is encouraged to contribute. My mother appreciates very much all the effort that the staff go to for her, and especially for the respect that is shown when personal care is required. I am grateful for all the kindness and expertise that staff bring to my mother's life on a daily basis.

Mum spent 3 happy years at Middlefields, the care is amazing. Mum felt loved and respected by everyone in all areas whether admin, care or housekeeping staff. sufficient vitamin D. Not sure if supplements are given.
The quantity of food appears to be adequate, although I can't comment on quality.
The 'evening' meal is very early (5pm), which makes it a long night before breakfast the next day.
The quality of the bedding leaves something to be desired, we have commented about threadbare sheets.
The building is presumably a converted house and has obvious limitations e.g. no en-suite bathrooms, multiple floor levels, no refreshment facilities for residents.
Finally, there is little feedback on a resident's health i.e. are they in bed, have they been seen by a doctor?
Reply from Sid Martin, Business Manager at Milward HouseMany thanks for your detailed feedback.
We have supper at 5pm due to residents' needs: some have breakfast as early as 5am, so an early supper seems to suit most. Sandwiches etc. are available at any time after this should a resident prefer a later supper, and tea and biscuits are also available all evening.
You did notify us of an issue with the bedding in April 2024 which we addressed by changing all the sheets that week (we have again since too). Where sheets are washed at high temperatures the fabric does suffer, but we regularly check bedding and order replacements as needed as a result of your feedback from April 2024.
Families are welcome to enquire on health and wellbeing issues at any time and we actively encourage their involvement in care plan reviews. Please do enquire as frequently as you wish about mum's health: we will gladly update you.
Many thanks for your recognition of the caring and friendly staff which are our greatest asset in ensuring person-centred care.

The care manager has been extremely caring and helpful in arranging and preparing for Mum to come and stay at Bethany house. She carried out a thorough and considerate assessment, listening to Mum's physical, emotional, spiritual, social and partners. I visited prior to Mum moving there and found all
the staff friendly and welcoming. They were caring in their approach to the residents and it had a very homely and family oriented feel. It was good to see the menu display and home cooked food being prepared. Everyone looked happy and well presented. After a week, Mum seems to have settled in well with staff and residents being welcoming and friendly, meeting individual needs.

Dad spent his final years under the care of Bethany House colleagues . It was always obvious how much they cared for and respected him. Every time we visited the staff were always friendly and engaging , no matter how busy they were . Dad loved his time in Bethany House , a proper home from home .
Friendly,
caring staff in a safe , clean and well maintained environment , good home cooked food and plenty of fun and activities , what's not to recommend?
Though Dad is no longer with us , our memories of his time with the colleagues of Bethany House will stay with us forever
Reply from Susan Rebecca Beardsworth, Registered Manager at Bethany HouseThankyou so very much for this lovely comment. Your Dad was a pleasure to look after and we miss him very much. He always appreciated everything we did for him.

My relative spent her last 18 months in Milward and her care was good. The home has a strongly Christian ethos and a loving atmosphere. The staff were friendly and kind. There was a good timetable of activities for residents who wanted to be involved.
Reply from Sid Martin, Business Manager at Milward HouseIt was an honour to serve your relative in her final months and we hope that the love and care we offered was a blessing to her and those who loved them. It was a pleasure to see her have so many visitors and the encouragement this brought, so thank you for all the family did to complement the loving atmosphere that we actively seek to create.
