Review of Villa Adastra from Jac C (Friend of Resident) published on 29 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
I have known Villa Adastra for many years all my life over 70 years
Many people my family and I have known have lived in Villa Adastra and on visits over the years all residents seem settled there and enjoying the standard of care and activities plus meals freshly made
There are visits for entertainment by local choirs including rock choir and by local centre for adults with learning disabilities who provide music and singing entertainments integration and interaction with the local community
I explored family members moving to Villa Adastra but circumstances changed and not needed in the end

Annually we offer fresh fruits from our garden for residents meals including gooseberries red currants apples and grapes that are collected by staff straight to kitchen for chefs to prepare fresh meals for the residents

Review of Villa Adastra from Maxine S (Daughter of Resident) published on 29 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Following on from the review I left 3 years ago, I would like to say that my mum is still enjoying the best of care and kindness from the staff at VA. Mum is approaching her 95th birthday and has been a resident for over 4 years. My mum always loved to walk and be outside. The safe environment inside VA and the lovely garden outside, has meant she is still able to do these things despite her worsening dementia. Everyone at VA treats my mum with respect and kindness and in over 4 years mum has only been ill or needed a doctors appointment less than a handful of times, which, for a frail and vulnerable older person, shows the high level of care she receives. Nothing is overlooked and her needs are met with compassion and kindness and always a smiling face.

Review of Middlefields House from Angus M (Son of Resident) published on 27 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

When the time came for my mum to move into Middlesfields Care Home, it was naturally a very difficult decision for our family. However, from the very beginning, the team made us feel welcome, supported, and reassured.

The facilities are clean, comfortable, and well maintained, providing a safe and pleasant environment for the residents. Communication with the home has been good throughout. The staff are always approachable, happy to answer any questions, and keep us informed about how Mum is doing, which gives our family real peace of mind.

What truly makes Middlesfields stand out is the exceptional care provided by the staff. It is clear that caring for the residents is far more than just a job-it is a genuine passion. They treat Mum with kindness, dignity, patience, and compassion every day, taking the time to know her as an individual and making her feel valued and respected.

Knowing that Mum is surrounded by people who genuinely care about her wellbeing gives me enormous comfort

Review of Milward House from Barbara T (Daughter of Resident) published on 15 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
Following a challenging time whilst mother was in respite, noticing a decline in her health & well being, we were left with the daunting question of her future & in need of full-time care.
Having visited several care homes, it was clear, one stood out. Visiting Millward House in Tunbridge Wells my sisters & I immediately felt it's warm welcoming energy. The staff explained their philosophy of care also saying it is 'Home' & not 'a home' as staff we are their guests, the family members guests' We can't tell you how thrilled we were when mother was accepted as a family member & moved to Millward. Every visit we see genuine compassion, care & good humour. We are grateful to Millward, we see Mother happy, smiling & a huge change in her well being.
When these decisions need to be made for our loved ones its truly emotionally draining. Millward have considerably eased the transition of Mothers move. All staff are reassuring. At Millward they are exceptional.

I had looked at Emmaus House previously a few years ago which unfortunately was too late at that point, so to actual get my father into the home was fantastic.
I was impressed not only with the premises which are clean, tidy and well set out, with a small number of residents (compared to other homes - a big plus that one) but also impressed with the staff - and i mean "all the staff", always pleasant with a smile and genuinely helpful with queries of any type.

My father has taken, and totally unexpected being very very independent, to being in the home like a duck to water, i think its the attention he receives and the company he gets from both the other residents and all the staff.

Review of Emmaus House from Jane L (Daughter of Resident) published on 14 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mother has been a resident at Emmaus House for a couple of years now. She continues to thrive here, and says that she feels blessed to have been able to come to this truly compassionate and caring place in which Christian faith is celebrated , empowered and lived out by the staff members who serve and look after her needs from day to day . Mum's complex visual needs are met with compassion and attention to detail , and thus she is enabled to fully participate in the range of activities on offer- including bowls and skittles - and to be active in the discussions and special events . She feels respected , listened to , and has had new opportunities of 'life ' rather than just 'living out' her later years :being able to give a talk to others about her interest in Ioana , and to develop her knowledge whilst participating in the themed food days from around the world, and varied music events . Welcoming, inclusive, to afford life affirming days , and well being - thank you Emmaus .

Milward House is a wonderful carehome where my Mum is very happy. As a former missionary she especially enjoys being able to help with the devotions and bible studies by reading, singing and talking about the bible.
She is really well looked after and is especially pleased to have a named key worker who she can talk to.

She enjoys many of the activities and feels safe and secure in the environment, knowing that if she has a problem there is always someone to help in a kind and caring way.

I can only thank the people that I made initial
contact with at Emmaus House to find a place for my mum, which is not a nice feeling that myself & brother had to do. Thanks to Julie, Kelly and Gill for their understanding during this stressful time.
Mum is in the best place for her needs and thanks to all the care team, sorry for no names as All are special to me, for their care and understanding during this time.

All at Emmaus house do not realise how much pressure has been taken away from the family during this major change for our Mum

Overall Experience
My dad moved into Emmaus House a few months ago. It was a difficult decision especially after experiencing a different carehome with mum a couple of years ago.

The staff have been absolutely brilliant from day one. They obviously care so much for their residents. They have taken time to really get to know them and go above and beyond to make dad feel at home. I was super sensitive to any indication dad wasn't doing well but I've had nothing but reassurance that dad is very well cared for. He is contented and looks really well. He loves sitting in the conservatory which looks out across the fields and in to the fells. There are loads of activities for residents, trips out, and there's a real sense of community. The atmosphere there is always very relaxed. The bible studies and services are especially important to dad. I wouldn't consider any other home for dad.

Reply from Kelly Hurton, Business Manager at Emmaus House

Thank you for your lovely review. We are here to make our residents feel like they are in a "home from home" and it sounds like your dad is enjoying his new surroundings. We try and make each day as varied as possible so that everyone can participate if they wish to.

Review of Villa Adastra from Rebecca C (Daughter of Resident) published on 1 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My mother, Helen, was a resident at Adastra for almost two years. After caring for her ourselves for five years, moving her into care was one of the hardest decisions we ever made. It felt like we were failing her.
From the moment Mum moved in, I knew it was the right decision. We could spend quality time together again, and I could simply be her daughter. We always knew she was safe, cared for, and treated with dignity and kindness.
The facilities are excellent, but it is the staff who make Adastra truly exceptional. Every member of the team went above and beyond, whether supporting families through difficult meetings, entertaining residents with quizzes, patiently giving Mum sips of water when she could no longer drink independently, or sitting with me at 3am while I waited to say goodbye to her.

Adastra is more than a care home-it is a home, and for that I will always be grateful.

Review of Koinonia Christian Care Home from Rob V (Son of Resident) published on 17 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mother lived at Koinonia for four years and during that time she was cared for with such love, kindness and dignity by the wonderful team. She especially enjoyed the food, particularly the puddings! Whenever I visited, I always found Koinonia to be a peaceful, warm and genuinely caring environment, with a Christian ethos. The values of kindness, compassion and respect were clearly reflected in the way everyone was cared for. Being offered a drink during my visits was such a thoughtful touch. Communication with relatives was excellent and I was always kept informed about everything that was happening regarding my mum's care. My mum lived with dementia during her final years and recently went to be with the Lord. The compassion and support shown to our family during such a difficult time was a real blessing and deeply appreciated. I can wholeheartedly recommend Koinonia; John and the whole team do an exceptional job and I will always be grateful for the care my mum received there.

Wonderful, caring friendly home. Always welcoming whenever we as a family visit. Mum has been in here for seventeen months and is very well cared for by the amazing staff. The meals are very appetising with plenty of choice. There are daily activities for the residents to participate in, also day trips to Lytham and the illuminations to mention a few. Her room is lovely and clean as is all the home. We could not ask for anymore so glad they had availability when we needed it at short notice. Review of Milward House from D B (Next of Kin) published on 4 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Milward House has looked after my relative with exemplary care. She has always been a strong willed lady, and had enjoyed independence until her mid-nineties. However, after a fall and then a stroke, we chose Milward because of the very friendly atmosphere, and it's Christian ethos, which chimed with her deeply-held faith. Failing sight, hearing, speech and comprehension meant that she became increasingly difficult. The staff were extraordinary in their love, patience, tolerance and care, particularly over the last year. This was especially important to her family since we all live a considerable distance from Milward, making visits less frequent than we would have liked. We, therefore, had to rely completely on the home to be her day to day family. Thank you, Sid, and all your staff.

Reply from Sid Martin, Business Manager at Milward House

She was indeed a formidable lady and a real character, and this only made caring for her through her challenges more rewarding as we got to know her so well. As you say, part of the family here.

We acted as professional attorneys for a lady who had the pleasure of spending her last few years at Milward House. The home was absolutely perfect for her allowing her to live in a kind and friendly atmosphere whilst providing her with the fellowship and opportunity to worship which was of great importance to her. The staff were always on hand to deal with requests quickly and communicated with us well and clearly. We felt that the staff were very attuned to the lady's needs (even when she was less able to communicate them herself) which was very reassuring for us (not being family ourselves). All the staff treat the residents with such a level of care and respect and it was a pleasure working with them.
