The staff at Milward House go over and above to ensure that the residents are valued, loved, cared for and are happy. Nothing is ever too much trouble. The home has a Christian foundation, with all residents having an active faith. This is respected, encouraged and fed through regular services and activities.
The residents have just been on their annual 'staycation' to Wales. Sue, the activities coordinator, did an amazing job encouraging learning, engagement and fun activities about all things Welsh. I happened to visit when the ice cream van turned up, playing it's happy tune, which brought much enjoyment, and, no doubt brought back memories to many.
I am very happy that I can rest assured that Mum is being well looked after and loved by the staff at Milward. I feel we, as a family, are so fortunate to have Mum in such a great home. Thank you to all at Milward for going over and above to look after Mum and ensuring she is well looked after, happy and loved.

Reply from Sid Martin, Business Manager at Milward House

Thank you for sharing such lovely sentiments about the love and care that mum receives at Milward House: we love having her with us.The holiday week 'in Wales' was really good fun and we think everyone enjoyed the special activities and food. I hope you managed to get an ice cream too...

My Aunt has been very contented at Milward House especially as it is a Christian home with very caring and professional staff. She always speaks highly of the staff which is a good recommendation from some one retired from healthcare. Whenever l have visited l have noticed what a happy atmosphere,
with many activities for the residents to join in if they wish. It is far better than any l have visited in the past.

Reply from Sid Martin, Business Manager at Milward House

It is such a blessing to hear that our residents are contented and value the care and personal interactions with the staff, so thank you for that encouragement which I will pass on to the team here. It is a joy and a pleasure to serve your aunt at Milward House.

Overall the care I received at Milward House was excellent. The staff were kind & courteous. I very much enjoyed the Christian aspect & input.
In general the food was excellent. The breakfast and lunch meals were varied & tasty.
The suppers that were served at around 6pm, were rather uninteresting
& unappetising in the way they were presented to me. Mostly, the GF bread provided was very dry & thick sliced with their crusts left on. This meant they had to be held with both hands to make any impact when biting and were difficult to swallow.
My room was on the 3rd floor. It was quiet & had a pleasant view & was easily accessed by the lift. The only drawback back was there was no en-suite which meant I had to use a commode. (This was emptied promptly on request.)
The nearest flushing toilet to my room was up a short flight of stairs which I did not want to attempt in the middle of the night! However the toilet facilities on the ground floor were plentiful and easy to access.

Reply from Sid Martin, Business Manager at Milward House

Many thanks for your review recognising the excellent care you received and the kind staff that served you.I am sorry the gluten free bread was not to your expectations, but we were reliant on what we could source from local supermarkets. If you were to return, we would be pleased to know your preferred supplier/brand so we can improve this for you.

The building feels more like a hotel than a care home, though the very limited grounds are a pity. Staff are caring and friendly. There are a variety of activities and outings.
Despite mentioning on several occasions that we didn't want mother dressed in stained or ripped clothing this happens on several
occasions.
Mother is settled and happy.

Reply from Sid Martin, Business Manager at Milward House

Many thanks for your recognition of the caring and friendly staff here at Milward: the meaningful interactions between staff and residents are the main way in which we can demonstrate person-centred care and it is so encouraging to see mother thrive in this environment.I am sorry that you feel that clothes have been stained or ripped: I am not aware of this myself, so please do chat with me in person when you are next in about your concerns. One reason may be that we enable mother to paint her lovely pictures and paint sometimes gets on her clothes, but clothes are put on clean each morning, even if they then attract marks through the day at mealtimes etc.

Mum spent her last five years at Milward House. Every staff member I met during that time were very professional and so caring. This was a great comfort as I live a long distance away. The home is in a lovely area with a nice park just up the road. I strongly recommend this place.

Milward House was our Mother's home for five months after moving from Brighton.
The Staff are very professional and kind and considerate, and willing to help.
I would recommend Milward Houe as a safe comfortable home for any member of your family.

It was a pleasure to have Mum with us for almost five years and to show her Christian love and care that she so appreciated. We were pleased to support your family with an administrative matter recently too: our care extends beyond someone leaving the home here, so it was a blessing to be able to help there.

My brother was admitted to Milward House in April 2024 suffering from dementia. The staff and volunteers have looked after him so well and he is included in all the day-to-day activities. He is very happy and is treated with kindness and respect and has a good relationship with all the staff despite
the challenges of his condition. I would certainly highly recommend this home.

My 90-year-old father was preparing for discharge from hospital, having been prescribed a pureed diet. He was also exhausted and weak from two periods in hospital. My mother lives at Milward House and with a pretty short time frame, we contacted the senior staff at Milward to see if Dad could be accommodated
on a short-term basis for recovery.
The team were incredibly helpful in making this happen, something we appreciated particularly as I believe they were short-staffed that weekend because some staff were away at a conference. There was obviously a fair bit of paperwork for Milward to complete but they got it all done and it meant so much to my father that he could come to Milward, where he's familiar with the staff and the environment. Not only that, but he was able to see Mum much more regularly as they were now in the same building!
It had been a difficult period for my sister and myself, who jointly support and care for Mum and Dad, with Dad having to go in and out of hospital so it was wonderful for us to feel assured that Dad was in safe hands and being well cared for and his diet managed properly.

Reply from Sid Martin, Business Manager at Milward House

It was our pleasure to help Dad out in his time of need and it has been so lovely seeing him and mum share time together. Thank you for your kind words of recognition. We hope Dad's stay continues to bless him as it does us to see him doing so well.

My mother is very well cared for physically in the home. The staff are well trained and extremely supportive. I am grateful that she has daily Bible reading and prayer at the home. Mum is a Christian and her being in a Christian atmosphere is a top priority for me. It would be horrific to think of her
in a home where the TV was blaring away when she never would have had a TV in her own home. It is wonderful that she can sit in the lounge at Milward without her now fragile senses being assaulted by something she would have disliked so much as TV.
I am always made very welcome when I visit and am able to have lunch with my mother. This enables me to try to help her eat and also reassures me that she is eating. The staff understand and respect her fear of hospitals, injections and medication which is not a result of dementia but a kind of deeply held preference. I would love to be able to look after Mum myself but sadly I cannot. I'm so thankful for Milward House.

Reply from Sid Martin, Business Manager at Milward House

Caring for mum is an absolute joy and it is lovely to see her engage with things at times despite her dementia, no doubt as a result of our 'The Way We Care' initiative and the wonderful work that our team do to try and make sure she is as blessed and supported as she can be. Thank you for the recognition of how the care we offer is so valuable to her and you: as I say it is a pleasure.

My mother and sister, respectively have been residents at Millward House for a number of years. My mother is 102 and I am sure would have not reached this age without the love and care provided by Millward House.
Similarly, my sister is over 80 and very disabled and again the loving care she has received
keeps her going, they both love Millward House, it's their home.
The staff are very caring, the food is very good, and the management provides for social activities which I know from my folks is very much appreciated.
The quality of housekeeping is first class, and whilst I do not manage unfortunately to get up to the area very often as I live in Wales, I am always struck by the warmth of the staff, and the lovely ambience of the property when I visit.
I cannot think of a better place for the ladies, and we thank God for all the staff do for them, they work so hard very often under demanding circumstances.

Reply from Sid Martin, Business Manager at Milward House

Thank you for your kind words as we care for two generations of wonderful ladies from the same family. They are both real characters and it is a delight to know and care for them and see them flourish as they live here in 'their home'. It is so encouraging to hear that the love we inevitably develop for those we care for is evident to their relatives, so thank you for that too.

My Mother has been a full-time resident at Milward House since before Covid. This is a wonderful home where staff cope very well with her particular challenges.
In the month reviewed above, she celebrated a very important birthday where the staff went overboard to make her happy. One could see that
she enjoyed the food, cake and company - along with the schoolchildren from a local Christian school with whom she played all sorts of games.
This month also coincided with the changeover from self-support to the local County Council-aided support after her savings had been depleted. This was not an easy transition to achieve, but again the home, through its management, were extremely proactive in making the transition seamless. For this, the family remain very grateful.
This is a Christian home in every respect where devotions are preached every weekday. My mother is now very settled and physically well which at her age is a great blessing.
Top marks and thanks to all at Milwards.

This review relates to one week's respite care for my father in July 2024.
The overall experience was good.
The initial assessment meeting with the Business Manager and the Care Manager a couple of weeks ahead of the stay was very positive and the Care Manager carried out a thorough interview. My
father seemed to enjoy his stay at Milward House. I think the fact that there was lots of activity meant he was more engaged than he normally is when he is home alone. He seemed to be well engaged in the afternoon quiz when I came to collect him on the day he went home.
All the staff seemed very kind and caring.

Milward House was recommend to my elderly 96-year-old mother-in-law and it definitely lived up to its highly regarded reputation. We were guided through all the documentation expertly and efficiently by the business manager at every stage.
Next a home visit followed by the care manager to reassure
my mother-in-law and explain life in Milward House and was conducted with the utmost kindness and professionalism. We took to her immediately she is lovely.
My mother-in-law has shared the many activities she engaged in. Her highlights were a holiday week one day they went to the seaside in the garden which she loved to a jumble sale, her utmost favourite thing to do ever!
She talked about the personal care she received which she normally struggles with excepting help for. However, she talked endlessly of the patience and softness she was shown by a younger member of staff assigned to support her.
Lastly, the beautiful Spanish lady, who helped her settle in, reassured us and was just wonderful throughout. 5 stars and above!

Thank you so much for the kind words, and especially the recognition and appreciation of the person-centred care we seek to offer at all times. My mum who suffers from Alzheimer's and vascular dementia recently returned home from a four-week respite stay at Milward House (two weeks planned and a two-week extension at short notice due to a plumbing emergency at home). We cannot praise the care home enough and would highly recommend it to anyone
considering staying there - either as a full-time 'family member' or on respite. All of the staff members we encountered were extremely caring and made Mum feel part of the family in every way from day one. She was even encouraged to stray from her normal 'meat and two veg' diet and as a result she enjoyed a variety of foods which she described as delicious - a real revelation for us! Mum particularly enjoyed the daily devotions and hymn singing and the Christian values and ethos were clearly evident in all areas of her care. The management team are superb and ensure that Milward House is a well-run, safe and happy care home. Thank you so much Milward House!

Milward House has a very calm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The management are very approachable and the caring staff seem very dedicated and attentive to the residents. My mum has Alzheimer's/vascular dementia and I feel her needs are being met very well. She enjoys sitting in the lounge area
with other residents and listening to the lovely music, which is a nice difference from some care homes which have the TV on at near full volume all day. The Christian input is so good with a variety of things going on. The care is truly for the whole person. When my sister visited this week my mum, totally unprompted said how happy she was living there.

My mother-in-law recently completed a four-week respite stay at Milward House.
We can highly recommend the home to anyone considering staying here.
The staff are immensely caring and kind and my mother-in-law whilst initially anxious about staying was quickly settled and fully at home.
They were
able to provide daily activity, including plenty of walks and even taking her into town for a coffee! She especially enjoyed an evening of line dancing.
The Christian ethos was really prevalent in the care she received, which was of great importance to her.

Milward Home could not be considered a modern state-of-the-art care home. But the old-fashioned values of Family Care and Community are the main attributes shown.
We chose Milward due to its locality to Mum's family home and its strong Christian ethos.
Mum had also visited the home in the past with
Christian Church Groups, which ministered in the home.
As a family, we were able to make use of the small lounge to celebrate Mum's birthday, which enabled some of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to visit; we enjoyed birthday cake and food prepared by the home.
Mum enjoys joining in with the entertainment but also enjoys snoozing in her chair.
We feel this is the best care home in Tunbridge Wells with Christian care.
Ideally suited to Mum's generation.

It was hard to believe such a place existed, but it does! Having found Milward House for an elderly friend who could no longer stay in her own home, all our fears and anxieties about her future were put to rest. Obviously, there is the initial adjustment which can be a difficult time but having watched
how the care team and management focused in on the individual care needs, our friend soon began to relax and trust. Each day now is a happy, interactive, joyful involvement with friends and staff who have become friends.
