My mum was here for around four years after she had been diagnosed with dementia and was unable to look after herself. I was very pleased with the level of care she received. The staff were always welcoming and the carers were very kind, considerate and compassionate. The home itself was clean and it
was a happy place. There was a strong Christian ethos and I felt reassured that my mum was being looked after and her wishes were coming first.

Since March 2025 when my mother moved Milward House, my family and I have been struck by the commitment, warmth and trustworthiness of all the staff. Although the changing state of my mother's health is hard to see, I am comforted by the happy atmosphere and the team spirit that support residents and
families alike. Daily activities are varied, such as art, music, baking, visits from the local primary school and quizzes of all kinds. The daily acts of worship are led with great sincerity and everyone is encouraged to contribute. My mother appreciates very much all the effort that the staff go to for her, and especially for the respect that is shown when personal care is required. I am grateful for all the kindness and expertise that staff bring to my mother's life on a daily basis.

Generally the home is welcoming with caring and friendly staff.
The residents are well cared for and there seems to be adequate staff.
There are frequent activities in the weekday afternoons, although these appear to be mostly indoors. Therefore, there is a concern that residents may not be getting
sufficient vitamin D. Not sure if supplements are given.
The quantity of food appears to be adequate, although I can't comment on quality.
The 'evening' meal is very early (5pm), which makes it a long night before breakfast the next day.
The quality of the bedding leaves something to be desired, we have commented about threadbare sheets.
The building is presumably a converted house and has obvious limitations e.g. no en-suite bathrooms, multiple floor levels, no refreshment facilities for residents.
Finally, there is little feedback on a resident's health i.e. are they in bed, have they been seen by a doctor?
Reply from Sid Martin, Business Manager at Milward House
Many thanks for your detailed feedback.
We have supper at 5pm due to residents' needs: some have breakfast as early as 5am, so an early supper seems to suit most. Sandwiches etc. are available at…

The staff at Milward House go over and above to ensure that the residents are valued, loved, cared for and are happy. Nothing is ever too much trouble. The home has a Christian foundation, with all residents having an active faith. This is respected, encouraged and fed through regular services and activities.
The residents have just been on their annual 'staycation' to Wales. Sue, the activities coordinator, did an amazing job encouraging learning, engagement and fun activities about all things Welsh. I happened to visit when the ice cream van turned up, playing it's happy tune, which brought much enjoyment, and, no doubt brought back memories to many.
I am very happy that I can rest assured that Mum is being well looked after and loved by the staff at Milward. I feel we, as a family, are so fortunate to have Mum in such a great home. Thank you to all at Milward for going over and above to look after Mum and ensuring she is well looked after, happy and loved.

Overall the care I received at Milward House was excellent. The staff were kind & courteous. I very much enjoyed the Christian aspect & input.
In general the food was excellent. The breakfast and lunch meals were varied & tasty.
The suppers that were served at around 6pm, were rather uninteresting
& unappetising in the way they were presented to me. Mostly, the GF bread provided was very dry & thick sliced with their crusts left on. This meant they had to be held with both hands to make any impact when biting and were difficult to swallow.
My room was on the 3rd floor. It was quiet & had a pleasant view & was easily accessed by the lift. The only drawback back was there was no en-suite which meant I had to use a commode. (This was emptied promptly on request.)
The nearest flushing toilet to my room was up a short flight of stairs which I did not want to attempt in the middle of the night! However the toilet facilities on the ground floor were plentiful and easy to access.

My brother was admitted to Milward House in April 2024 suffering from dementia. The staff and volunteers have looked after him so well and he is included in all the day-to-day activities. My 90-year-old father was preparing for discharge from hospital, having been prescribed a pureed diet. He was also exhausted and weak from two periods in hospital. My mother lives at Milward House and with a pretty short time frame, we contacted the senior staff at Milward to see if Dad could be accommodated
on a short-term basis for recovery.
The team were incredibly helpful in making this happen, something we appreciated particularly as I believe they were short-staffed that weekend because some staff were away at a conference. There was obviously a fair bit of paperwork for Milward to complete but they got it all done and it meant so much to my father that he could come to Milward, where he's familiar with the staff and the environment. Not only that, but he was able to see Mum much more regularly as they were now in the same building!
It had been a difficult period for my sister and myself, who jointly support and care for Mum and Dad, with Dad having to go in and out of hospital so it was wonderful for us to feel assured that Dad was in safe hands and being well cared for and his diet managed properly.

My mother is very well cared for physically in the home. The staff are well trained and extremely supportive. I am grateful that she has daily Bible reading and prayer at the home. Mum is a Christian and her being in a Christian atmosphere is a top priority for me. It would be horrific to think of her
in a home where the TV was blaring away when she never would have had a TV in her own home. It is wonderful that she can sit in the lounge at Milward without her now fragile senses being assaulted by something she would have disliked so much as TV.
I am always made very welcome when I visit and am able to have lunch with my mother. This enables me to try to help her eat and also reassures me that she is eating. The staff understand and respect her fear of hospitals, injections and medication which is not a result of dementia but a kind of deeply held preference. I would love to be able to look after Mum myself but sadly I cannot. I'm so thankful for Milward House.

My mother and sister, respectively have been residents at Millward House for a number of years. My mother is 102 and I am sure would have not reached this age without the love and care provided by Millward House.
Similarly, my sister is over 80 and very disabled and again the loving care she has received
keeps her going, they both love Millward House, it's their home.
The staff are very caring, the food is very good, and the management provides for social activities which I know from my folks is very much appreciated.
The quality of housekeeping is first class, and whilst I do not manage unfortunately to get up to the area very often as I live in Wales, I am always struck by the warmth of the staff, and the lovely ambience of the property when I visit.
I cannot think of a better place for the ladies, and we thank God for all the staff do for them, they work so hard very often under demanding circumstances.

My Mother has been a full-time resident at Milward House since before Covid. This is a wonderful home where staff cope very well with her particular challenges.
In the month reviewed above, she celebrated a very important birthday where the staff went overboard to make her happy. One could see that
she enjoyed the food, cake and company - along with the schoolchildren from a local Christian school with whom she played all sorts of games.
This month also coincided with the changeover from self-support to the local County Council-aided support after her savings had been depleted. This was not an easy transition to achieve, but again the home, through its management, were extremely proactive in making the transition seamless. For this, the family remain very grateful.
This is a Christian home in every respect where devotions are preached every weekday. My mother is now very settled and physically well which at her age is a great blessing.
Top marks and thanks to all at Milwards.

This review relates to one week's respite care for my father in July 2024.
The overall experience was good.
The initial assessment meeting with the Business Manager and the Care Manager a couple of weeks ahead of the stay was very positive and the Care Manager carried out a thorough interview. My
father seemed to enjoy his stay at Milward House. I think the fact that there was lots of activity meant he was more engaged than he normally is when he is home alone. He seemed to be well engaged in the afternoon quiz when I came to collect him on the day he went home.
All the staff seemed very kind and caring.

Milward House was recommend to my elderly 96-year-old mother-in-law and it definitely lived up to its highly regarded reputation. We were guided through all the documentation expertly and efficiently by the business manager at every stage.
Next a home visit followed by the care manager to reassure
my mother-in-law and explain life in Milward House and was conducted with the utmost kindness and professionalism. We took to her immediately she is lovely.
My mother-in-law has shared the many activities she engaged in. Her highlights were a holiday week one day they went to the seaside in the garden which she loved to a jumble sale, her utmost favourite thing to do ever!
She talked about the personal care she received which she normally struggles with excepting help for. However, she talked endlessly of the patience and softness she was shown by a younger member of staff assigned to support her.
Lastly, the beautiful Spanish lady, who helped her settle in, reassured us and was just wonderful throughout. 5 stars and above!

My mum who suffers from Alzheimer's and vascular dementia recently returned home from a four-week respite stay at Milward House (two weeks planned and a two-week extension at short notice due to a plumbing emergency at home). We cannot praise the care home enough and would highly recommend it to anyone
considering staying there - either as a full-time 'family member' or on respite. All of the staff members we encountered were extremely caring and made Mum feel part of the family in every way from day one. She was even encouraged to stray from her normal 'meat and two veg' diet and as a result she enjoyed a variety of foods which she described as delicious - a real revelation for us! Mum particularly enjoyed the daily devotions and hymn singing and the Christian values and ethos were clearly evident in all areas of her care. The management team are superb and ensure that Milward House is a well-run, safe and happy care home. Thank you so much Milward House!
