Having just undergone complete refurbishment throughout, the Laurels offers first-class single bedroom accommodation over just two floors, served by a passenger lift. It enjoys a family atmosphere, combining quality care with a positive living experience. There is a strong emphasis on family and resident interaction, with a wide range of activities for all to enjoy.

The home has level access throughout, whilst the surroundings include well-kept gardens, a fish pond and decking area, as well as a safe seating area in the inner courtyard. There are safety handrails for residents with mobility issues and staff are on hand throughout the day and night.

The dignity of residents is placed at the centre of all decisions taken, as carers actively look to contribute with support for an independent lifestyle.

My wife has received excellent care since being here. Nothing has been too much trouble. She has settled down very well. Would not want her to be anywhere else.

The Laurels has been caring for my mother for the last 16 months through many ups and downs. They have cared for her with constant dignity and love, engaging her at every opportunity. She has been well looked after especially when she had a couple of falls and hospitalisation recently.
Their care has
adapted to her new circumstances with ease. I'm so pleased that they can be relied on and thankful that I need not worry about her.

My Mum was in The Laurels for a year. The majority of carers are lovely. The Management and head carer are the downfall. There is a high turnaround of staff. We had many issues; mismanagement of medication, mum dressed in other's clothes, dirty nails, no showers/hair wash, and poor communication. It
is all open plan and very noisy in the lounge with everyone together. Mum had a nice bedroom but very noisy residents around her room. Mum sadly died and we had no support from the Management or Head Carer whatsoever. In fact, the day Mum died they left early without our knowledge, it was disgraceful. The responsible carer left would not stay in Mum's room as Mum dying "reminded her of her dad". I sent a letter of how I felt after Mum died; no response was received, no condolence card, they didn't even ask when the funeral was! Please visit this care home a lot before you put your loved one here, and please visit at night too as residents sleep in the chairs and sofas and in my opinion not enough staff. Shame only 1000 words max.

I visit most days. The staff are excellent and work extremely hard, but some days the entertainment is very poor. I feel maybe the residents could do what they would have done at home i.e washing, cooking, cleaning. These could be used with play items like a shop setup so they can choose items they
need. The entertainment, i.e singers are great and I see them enjoying themselves. Maybe they could make some cakes or biscuits.

Have now visited my friend several times and each time I have been impressed by the overall care and attitude of the staff. I am welcomed and recognised no matter what time of day and the general atmosphere is bright and friendly. My friend has settled in after an uncertain start and he has commented

Mum passed away recently having lived at The Laurels for the past five years. She has been bedbound for the last two years and the care she has received has been exemplary and we are so relieved that at the end she was in her own room at the place she regarded as home. We cannot fault the wonderful,
caring staff who looked after Mum so well. They are always so cheerful and welcoming. Their interaction with residents is always kind and respectful and they have an in-depth knowledge of each individual's needs and personality. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Laurels to anyone who is looking for a care home for their loved one.

We visited a few care homes in the area before we decided to have our mother reside in The Laurels, as The Laurels is very homely and not too large as opposed to the other care homes we looked at. The management and staff are all very friendly and caring and the facilities are good. Very nicely decorated
and exceedingly clean. Really good laundry service on the premises. Good food, nicely cooked and a good selection each day. Very pleasant lounge area overlooking a nice garden. This is a true Care Home, with very caring staff, who take their jobs very seriously. I would not hesitate to highly recommend it to those who want their family members cared for 24 hours a day.

The staff at The Laurels care home in Wickford Essex go above and beyond their call of duty, not only in terms of physical care but also provided heart-felt emotional support during the difficult period when our mum recently passed away. From medication management to personal hygiene assistance, they
are meticulous and conscientious, ensuring our dad's care is never compromised in any way. They provide a well-maintained care home which is a testament to their commitment to providing a high standard of care.


I would like to add that our review encompasses our experience for the past 13 months and during this period they have maintained consistency at all levels throughout!

It is such a relief to us that Mum is living in such a lovely care home. The staff are so friendly and kind, they genuinely care about the people they look after. They are very alert to any changes Mum may have regarding her health or the progression of her dementia. There is always a relaxed, calm

We were fortunate that The Laurels cared for our mother prior to her passing there.
The staff are very kind, and their gentle care of our frail mother gave us peace of mind.
Mum was always kept clean, dry, warm and safe. On her passing, we were touched by the support the staff gave. In my opinion,
you will be fortunate indeed if your loved one is cared for by this team.

I have a very good friend, who unfortunately now needs more care than I can give. The Laurels is providing that care, with friendly caring staff. He has settled into his routine, enjoying his home-cooked food, especially the crackling with his lunch last Sunday. His room has been newly decorated and
new furniture provided. It is kept clean and tidy. The lady in the laundry keeps on top of the washing and ironing. Wonderful job! The girls and boys who look after him daily, have time to talk to him, he loves that. He has access to his sports radio, being blind, it is essential. If anyone asked me to recommend it, I would not hesitate. Fantastic job - the manager and all the real carers!

Mum spent the last 13 months of her life at The Laurels and they were the happiest of her recent years. Her dementia and frailty meant she had increasing need of her carers and they were always there to care for her. For us as a family knowing this was a great comfort knowing that she was in capable
friendly hands during the lockdown period when visiting was impossible. The way that the home handled the restrictions was excellent and not only were we able to keep in touch over the phone but we regularly were sent photos of Mum getting up to all sorts of activities. We were kept fully up to date with changes in her medical condition and as her health and as declined the home were very accommodating. I cannot praise the staff team enough. Everyone always went the extra mile to look after mum and showed concern for us as well. Mum always praised the staff highly. We have no hesitation, whatsoever, in recommending The Laurels.

I have two aunts in The Laurels. One has been there for a couple of years the other moving in March this year.
The care they receive is excellent and the staff really helpful.
I would have no hesitation in recommending The Laurels as an excellent care home.

Very poor management that lacks empathy and understanding. Poor communication with resident's family over a difficult time and using the word ‘fine’ on enquiring about a relative.
The care staff were brilliant and my mum was cared for and loved by them, although all the staff have now moved on to
other jobs.

The Laurels is the second care home that my husband has been a resident of. I was lucky to be able to move him to The Laurels that is in Wickford a couple of years ago from a previous care home. I live in Wickford, so moving him here made it easier for me to see him. I was worried about moving him,
but I am so glad I did, as The Laurels have proved to be very well run and the staff are extremely caring. Although like most care homes, they could do with more staff. My husband has settled in well and seems content. Unfortunately, he doesn’t speak, so I can’t find out from him how he feels, I can only go with what I have observed. Sadly Covid did stop me from being able to see him, but now the home has sorted the procedures and sourced the necessary personal protective equipment, I can see him now, but because of all the palaver of getting Covid tested and having to book an appointment, I only see him once a week. Although I could see him more than this. More staff would equal better person care.

Following our Mum's admission to hospital in October, my sister and I were given 2 days to make long term care arrangements for our 92-year-old mother as she was not able to return to her sheltered accommodation. Having visited The Laurels we were left with no doubt that it would be the right place
for her - a decision which in the fortnight she has been there has been confirmed to us countless times as the correct one. We have been extremely impressed with the care that Mum is receiving thanks to the staff who are, without exception, kind, patient, respectful and above all, caring. It is a huge weight off our minds that when we are not with her, Mum is being well cared for at all times and is content. The atmosphere is further enhanced by other relatives who are all very friendly; our young grandchildren are always made to feel very welcome. I have no hesitation in recommending The Laurels to anyone looking for a Care Home for their loved one.
