I visit my mum each week or fortnight, depending how she is. She has been at The Laurels now about 4 years. I think she has been very happy here and seems quite at home and enjoys the company of the residents and the staff. To me she seems very settled and I like visiting her at The Laurels. She has been in hospital 3 times since she has been here and always want to come back as soon as she can. I think though the increase in fees of 20% (over) this year is unfair and excessive.

Dear Mark, Thank you for your review. We value feedback from residents and families, as it helps us to improve our services. We understand that fee increases can be concerning and would like to explain the reason for the adjustment. The increase was necessary due to rising operating costs,...

The care from day one of Mum going into The Laurels has been great. The staff are always happy and willing to engage with residents and help them out with any needs they may require. The home get in entertainers to sing and get the residents to join in if they are possible to do so.

The Laurels has been caring for my mother for the last 16 months through many ups and downs. They have cared for her with constant dignity and love, engaging her at every opportunity. She has been well looked after especially when she had a couple of falls and hospitalisation recently.

Their care has adapted to her new circumstances with ease. I'm so pleased that they can be relied on and thankful that I need not worry about her.

My Mum was in The Laurels for a year. The majority of carers are lovely. The Management and head carer are the downfall. There is a high turnaround of staff. We had many issues; mismanagement of medication, mum dressed in other's clothes, dirty nails, no showers/hair wash, and poor communication. It is all open plan and very noisy in the lounge with everyone together. Mum had a nice bedroom but very noisy residents around her room. Mum sadly died and we had no support from the Management or Head Carer whatsoever. In fact, the day Mum died they left early without our knowledge, it was disgraceful. The responsible carer left would not stay in Mum's room as Mum dying "reminded her of her dad". I sent a letter of how I felt after Mum died; no response was received, no condolence card, they didn't even ask when the funeral was! Please visit this care home a lot before you put your loved one here, and please visit at night too as residents sleep in the chairs and sofas and in my opinion not enough staff. Shame only 1000 words max.

Thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention. We are obviously disappointed that you have had a negative experience. We take all feedback very seriously. I visit most days. The staff are excellent and work extremely hard, but some days the entertainment is very poor. I feel maybe the residents could do what they would have done at home i.e washing, cooking, cleaning. These could be used with play items like a shop setup so they can choose items they need. The entertainment, i.e singers are great and I see them enjoying themselves. Maybe they could make some cakes or biscuits.

Have now visited my friend several times and each time I have been impressed by the overall care and attitude of the staff. I am welcomed and recognised no matter what time of day and the general atmosphere is bright and friendly. My friend has settled in after an uncertain start and he has commented often that the staff are very nice. I'm happy that he has a good home there.

Mum passed away recently having lived at The Laurels for the past five years. She has been bedbound for the last two years and the care she has received has been exemplary and we are so relieved that at the end she was in her own room at the place she regarded as home. We cannot fault the wonderful, caring staff who looked after Mum so well. They are always so cheerful and welcoming. Their interaction with residents is always kind and respectful and they have an in-depth knowledge of each individual's needs and personality. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Laurels to anyone who is looking for a care home for their loved one.

We visited a few care homes in the area before we decided to have our mother reside in The Laurels, as The Laurels is very homely and not too large as opposed to the other care homes we looked at. The management and staff are all very friendly and caring and the facilities are good. Very nicely decorated and exceedingly clean. Really good laundry service on the premises. Good food, nicely cooked and a good selection each day. Very pleasant lounge area overlooking a nice garden. This is a true Care Home, with very caring staff, who take their jobs very seriously. I would not hesitate to highly recommend it to those who want their family members cared for 24 hours a day.

The staff at The Laurels care home in Wickford Essex go above and beyond their call of duty, not only in terms of physical care but also provided heart-felt emotional support during the difficult period when our mum recently passed away. From medication management to personal hygiene assistance, they are meticulous and conscientious, ensuring our dad's care is never compromised in any way. They provide a well-maintained care home which is a testament to their commitment to providing a high standard of care.

I would like to add that our review encompasses our experience for the past 13 months and during this period they have maintained consistency at all levels throughout!

10/10.

It is such a relief to us that Mum is living in such a lovely care home. The staff are so friendly and kind, they genuinely care about the people they look after. They are very alert to any changes Mum may have regarding her health or the progression of her dementia. There is always a relaxed, calm atmosphere in the home when visiting. I would definitely recommend The Laurels.

We were fortunate that The Laurels cared for our mother prior to her passing there.
The staff are very kind, and their gentle care of our frail mother gave us peace of mind.

Mum was always kept clean, dry, warm and safe. On her passing, we were touched by the support the staff gave. In my opinion, you will be fortunate indeed if your loved one is cared for by this team.

I have a very good friend, who unfortunately now needs more care than I can give. The Laurels is providing that care, with friendly caring staff. He has settled into his routine, enjoying his home-cooked food, especially the crackling with his lunch last Sunday. His room has been newly decorated and new furniture provided. It is kept clean and tidy. The lady in the laundry keeps on top of the washing and ironing. Wonderful job! The girls and boys who look after him daily, have time to talk to him, he loves that. He has access to his sports radio, being blind, it is essential. If anyone asked me to recommend it, I would not hesitate. Fantastic job - the manager and all the real carers!

Mum spent the last 13 months of her life at The Laurels and they were the happiest of her recent years. Her dementia and frailty meant she had increasing need of her carers and they were always there to care for her. For us as a family knowing this was a great comfort knowing that she was in capable friendly hands during the lockdown period when visiting was impossible. The way that the home handled the restrictions was excellent and not only were we able to keep in touch over the phone but we regularly were sent photos of Mum getting up to all sorts of activities. We were kept fully up to date with changes in her medical condition and as her health and as declined the home were very accommodating. I cannot praise the staff team enough. Everyone always went the extra mile to look after mum and showed concern for us as well. Mum always praised the staff highly. We have no hesitation, whatsoever, in recommending The Laurels.
