Mum has been a resident in Broadmead for about 20 months. In that time she has received superb care from all the staff. Whenever I visit the staff always make me feel welcome and take time to ask how I am and if necessary tell me how Mum has been since my last visit. I always get informed if Mum is unwell or has any issues and they phone once a month to see if I have any concerns. Mum celebrated her birthday this month, March, and Broadmead took great care in ensuring Mum had a great day. Balloons, and party banners were provided and Chef made an amazing cake! An enjoyable afternoon was had by all!

My mum has been in the care home for a few years and is very settled there. The staff are caring, helpful and patient. But I have found that some of her items can go missing and are not always found. It is great to see that there are activities, some of which my mum does participate in and it's so nice to see her enjoying herself. The kitchen are very good at trying to cater for my mum's eating preferences which can be difficult. I am very happy with her care.

My mum has been in Broadmead for over a year now. Staff are always cheerful and welcoming. They always seem very kind and caring towards the residents . Mum seems happy and settled in the home . Despite having very advanced dementia she has awareness of when people are kind to her or not. She always responds very positive's the staff and tells me how lovely they are . Because she used to be a carer and has a nurturing personality, she can still recognize this in other people .

Broadmead is one of the best rest homes that I have seen, the staff are both friendly and helpful and the home is maintained extremely well.

My only observation is that there seems to be a need for additional activities to keep the residents amused as they often seem bored when I attend but having said that I only see one day each week.

The one real concern is the difficulty in understanding one or two key members of the care staff I.e.use of the English language, particularly in relation to phone calls between them and myself in relation to care updates for my very elderly father in law. Our friend has been at Broadmead Resthome since November 2024 and is gradually settling in. We have been so impressed with the care given by all members of staff, encouraging her to join in when she feels able but equally happy for her to spend time in her room bringing meals to her if necessary. It's great to follow Broadmead on social media and see all the activities that the staff organise for the residents. The home is spotlessly clean, the food served is excellent and the birthday cake made for our friend was superb and much appreciated, especially as it was the Christmas party day so a lot going on for the staff.
The management is very good at keeping us informed regarding her medical care. Walking through the front door, one immediately senses a very happy and relaxed atmosphere.

I can highly recommend this home to anyone who is looking for a home for their loved one.

Dad was a resident for around two years and was looked after amazingly - when he passed away last December, not only did they treat him with the respect and dignity he deserved, they were so caring toward myself and my siblings, giving us as much time alone with Dad as we needed.
Dad was admitted to the care home towards the end of lockdown, it was very rarely we were told we couldn't visit and they made sure that all their residents were kept safe.
The carers are all fantastic, very empathetic towards residents' needs and would let us know as soon as possible if there were any medical concerns or problems.

The food was good quality and there was always lots of activities and entertainment.

My father was a resident at Broadmead Resthome for around three years. From the day I visited when searching for a care home, the place felt like a home, not a business. The staff throughout his time their were compassionate, caring and helpful. In three years, our family had some real ups and downs with Covid and various issues with Dad's deteriorating health. At all times we were informed and updated of what was happening. The food was of good quality, lots of interactive entertainment (just check the social media page for a view) and a smile when you were arriving and leaving. With all the challenges the staff have to deal with in a care home, they have always done a great job in my opinion.

Meet the Team (6)

Stephanie Read Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2013
Stephanie Read

I have dedicated over twenty years to working within the healthcare sector, beginning my journey as a trainee Healthcare Assistant in a neuro-rehabilitation hospital in Wiltshire. From the very start, I knew that supporting others was my calling. As I progressed through roles in both nursing and residential homes, I gained invaluable experience caring for residents living with dementia and learned the importance of patience, empathy, and truly person-centred care.

In 2013, I joined Broadmead Resthome as a part-time Healthcare Assistant while raising my two young children. Over the years, I grew within the organisation, becoming a Senior Carer and later Head of Care. Each step allowed me to take on more responsibility and deepen my understanding of how to provide compassionate, dignified support to those who rely on us.

While at Broadmead Resthome, I achieved my LMC Level 5 qualification and was promoted to Deputy Manager. In March 2024, I was honoured to be appointed as the Registered Manager.

I am incredibly proud of my journey, the people I have supported, and the team I am privileged to lead. I believe wholeheartedly in creating a warm, safe, and respectful environment where residents feel valued and cared for. Using the knowledge and experience I’ve gained, I am committed to guiding my team so that together we can continue to provide the very best care for every individual who calls Broadmead Resthome their home.

Trudy Farley Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2017
Trudy Farley

I have worked within the healthcare sector for over twenty years. I began my career as a Healthcare Assistant and have since gained extensive experience across a range of settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, and community care.

I later spent many years supporting adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs, progressing into roles within supported living and community services. During this time, I developed strong leadership skills and advanced to Team Leader before serving as a Deputy Manager for six years.

I hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification and remain committed to continuous professional development.

In 2017, I joined Broadmead Resthome as a Healthcare Assistant, seeking to broaden my knowledge and experience within a different area of care. Over the past three years, I have progressed to Senior Carer and then Head of Care, roles that allowed me to take on greater responsibility while working closely with HCA and SHCA colleagues to support and develop their practice. In March 2024, I was delighted to be promoted to Deputy Manager of Broadmead Resthome.

I am also proud to serve as Broadmead’s safeguarding Champion, attending specialist training and sharing best practice with the team to enhance the quality of care we provide.

Like everyone at Broadmead Resthome, I remain dedicated to ensuring our residents receive the highest standard of compassionate, person-centred care.

Neil Read Job Title: Maintenance Joined: 2017
Neil Read

I joined Broadmead in 2017 as a part-time driver, a role that allowed me to balance work with caring for my then young children. Before joining Broadmead, I gained many years of experience as a HGV driver, developing strong practical skills, resilience, and a disciplined approach to safety and responsibility. These qualities have continued to support me in my career within the care home sector.

In 2019, I transitioned into the Maintenance role at Broadmead, where I now take responsibility for ensuring the building, equipment, and grounds are safe, well-maintained, and comfortable for residents, staff, and visitors. I carry out both planned and reactive maintenance, conduct safety checks, and handle a wide range of repairs to keep the home running smoothly and efficiently.

Working in a care home has deepened my appreciation for the importance of a secure, well-kept environment, especially for older and vulnerable residents. I approach every task with patience, respect, and clear communication, always ensuring minimal disruption and a reassuring presence for residents.

I work closely with management and external contractors, maintain accurate compliance records, and uphold high health and safety standards at all times. With a strong work ethic, practical skill set, and a commitment to creating a safe and homely environment, I take pride in contributing to the wellbeing and comfort of everyone at Broadmead.

Lucy Fox Job Title: Residents Service Manager (RSM) Joined: 2024

I joined Broadmead in November 2024 as head of activities and wellbeing, I had a promotion in April 2025 as Resident service manager.
I returned to the healthcare sector after a 15 year period of retraining within educational settings and horticulture.
I worked across local authority funded projects within schools, day centres, charities and care homes executing various programmes and during this time developing a greater understanding of dementia specific activities.
I gained both teacher training and dementia training qualifications and combined my knowledge of floristry and creative artistries to develop my role as the head of activities and wellbeing.
I have a passion for care and the ability to engage others with my enthusiasm for learning and positive wellbeing. it gives me immense pleasure to see others enjoy a meaningful life through engaging daily activities.

I am eager to continue to learn and grow my knowledge and skills to bring the best possible care I can to our residents. Everything we do is aimed at ensuring residents at Broadmead Resthome have an enriched, comfortable and enjoyable stay with us.

Kristopher White Job Title: Head Of Activities and Wellbeing Joined: 2025
Kristopher White
I joined Broadmead in August 2025 as the Head of Activities and Wellbeing.

My career began in the Army, where I first learned the fundamentals of welding and gained the leadership and life skills that set the foundation for my professional journey. I went on to build a 15-year career in the welding industry, progressing through the ranks.

After many successful years in that field, I felt ready for a new direction—one that offered deeper meaning, personal connection, and the opportunity to make a lasting, positive difference in people’s lives. This led me to the care sector, where I have discovered a genuine passion for enhancing the well-being of our residents.

I strive to create meaningful, engaging activities that bring joy, purpose, and comfort to those in our care. Alongside this, I am committed to supporting residents emotionally—being someone they can rely on, talk to, and trust. I also enjoy raising funds to further enrich our activity programmes and ensure we always offer something special.

I bring together all the skills I’ve developed throughout my working life—leadership, teamwork, communication, creativity, and resilience—to thrive in this role. I remain eager to continue learning and growing so that our residents enjoy the very best experience during their time with us at Broadmead.

Robert Deakin Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2025
Robert Deakin

I joined Broadmead in 2025, bringing with me over 40 years of experience in the catering industry. My background spans a wide range of establishments, including casinos, military catering, pubs, hotels, restaurants, and care homes. This diverse experience has given me a deep understanding of food service at every level, from high-volume operations to personalised, resident-focused dining.

Throughout my career, I have developed a strong passion for delivering high-quality meals that are both nutritious and enjoyable. I thrive on the challenges that catering brings—adapting menus, meeting dietary needs, managing kitchen operations, and continuously improving the dining experience. For me, a clean, empty plate is the best reward, as it shows that the food I prepare brings comfort and satisfaction to the people I serve.

In a care home environment, I am committed to creating meals that support residents’ health, wellbeing, and personal preferences. I work closely with care teams to ensure dietary requirements are met, from fortified meals to texture-modified diets, while still maintaining flavour, presentation, and choice. I also take pride in maintaining the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness, and kitchen organisation.

With decades of hands-on experience, a strong work ethic, and a genuine drive to provide enjoyable, home-cooked meals, I bring leadership, creativity, and consistency to the Head Chef role at Broadmead.
