Broadmead Resthome is a Newbury-based care home, ideal for individuals with a variety of care needs from general and personal care, to specialist mental health or dementia care. It provides a comfortable lifestyle with access to a team of professional, caring and skilled carers with specialist training, who are available for residents at all hours of the day and night.

The team is well trained and qualified in delivering person-centred care. They have built up a strong community reputation for delivering a friendly and professional service that welcomes loved ones and remains up-to-date with key sector developments.

Mum has been a resident at Broadmead Rest Home for two years this month, my family and I feel very secure in the knowledge that Mum is being cared for to a very high standard, she is safe and all her needs are met, the staff are all extremely kind and caring, they are always very encouraging and very
often put a song to all Mums needs. The Broadmead offers a wide range of daily activities and very often has visiting acts the staff encourage all residents to participate, it's so lovely to see pictures via the social media which are kept up to date. We always get a warm and friendly welcome at the Broadmead when we pop in to visit Mum. I would have absolutely no compunction in highly recommending Broadmead Rest Home. My mum is very well cared for at Broadmead Rest Home and I feel very reassured she is safeguarded in a lovely environment. All the managers and staff I have encountered and interacted with are very welcoming and helpful. I am kept informed and updated if there are any changes or situations that arise.
I am also able to call and speak to Mum easily. I feel safe in the knowledge that I can call or email the management team and they get back to me very quickly. Broadmead seems to me to be a modern, bright spacious accommodation with plenty of room to roam for the residents. The staff are very attentive and have a good rapport with the residents but are also good with us as family members too. All in all, I would highly recommend Broadmead Rest Home to anyone.

My father is being looked after so well. I feel confident he is getting the best care for his dementia. The care workers are very friendly and caring and nothing is too much trouble for them. They listen to my requests and the needs of my father.

Everyone was kind, friendly and helpful. My husband was able to mix freely with people who did not have a condition the same as him, and this was one of the reasons I wanted him to go to Broadmead Resthome. It is a smaller home than others I had looked at and is more like a family atmosphere.

It is run like a cosy, loving family home. The care the residents receive here is extraordinary, treated with consideration, dignity, kindness and respect they feel valued and listened to.
Sometimes it’s the little things that matter to them like having their nails painted or on their birthday being
surprised by a dream. Recently an array of tractors visited one resident.
The food is outstanding a varied menu with a chef always happy to russell up something to tempt them individually.
The management and care team do genuinely care for the residents and can’t do enough to help them in any way. Records are kept meticulously on the computer. When visiting they are able to tell you exact details of your relative's day and what is eaten and drunk.
Residents are kept very busy with an incredible array of activities, often cleverly designed with their dementia in mind.
It is lovely just to relax in the knowledge that your relative is loved and so well cared for in such a homely environment.

Mainly happy with the overall care and support that this home gives. Sometimes communication can be rather challenging, me understanding what some of the carers are saying due to their accents. My mother has been at Broadmead for a year and has settled in well. The staff are caring, kind and patient. They always answer my questions and contact me if there is a concern or issue.

Dad moved to Broadmead Resthome in March 2022 following a short respite in a larger nursing home. He had not settled at the previous home, but immediately showed less anxiety and upset when he moved to Broadmead. Dad is 75 years old and has moderate Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia. Dad was a smoker
and Broadmead had a respect for this and flexibility of how this need could be met. No other home we approached were able to support this like Broadmead. The managers are professional and extremely efficient at responding to the needs of dad as well as our family. Their dementia knowledge is excellent. Nurses and doctors are contacted immediately when required and feedback is given to us promptly, we are included at every stage.
A varied and constant activity program delivered with enthusiasm. The social media page is kept up to date with photographs of events providing comforting evidence that dad is stimulated. The care staff are welcoming, the food is wonderful and staff know their residents' well.

Over the past few years, I have viewed something in excess of 20 care homes. Firstly for my mother and then my aunt, both in the west country and then for my wife here in Berkshire. Broadmead stands out above all of the others for its lovely staff and its range of activities for residents. Despite her
dementia, the carers managed to involve my wife in all manner of creative activities. It was so comforting to see regular photos of her joining in different things every week. Thank you, Broadmead.

I find visiting the care home a pleasant time. Residents seem happy in general. The home is clean and well equipped with good residents rooms. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall, I would definitely recommend Broadmead as a great choice.

My wife has now been in Broadmead for nearly ten years.
Broadmead has become an excellent care home, managed in a very caring way.
I am convinced that the good performance of Broadmead is entirely due to the way the care home management has knitted together a regard for the residents, for the staff
of the home and for the relatives. I have always had first class help whenever there has been a problem to solve. There is always a pleasant, happy atmosphere in the home; and there is an atmosphere of self confidence among the staff. Very well done.

If you value good feedback and a nice warm fuzzy feeling that you are being listened to about your loved one then don't send them here!
The management team will freely tell you how busy they are but if there's any issue regarding your relative then you have to find this out for yourself.
Severe lack
of empathy or understanding from the management team here. Any request or question was met with "I'll get back to you", then every occasion we'd have to chase them up. Felt like we were putting them out with even the simplest of requests.
My Dad has thankfully moved out, his new home had contacted us more in the first week than we had in the entire year at Broadmead.
When it came to say our goodbye's and thank them for everything, the Manager didn't even look up from her crisps to acknowledge or wish my Dad the best!

The frontline staff at Broadmead Resthome have been exceptional throughout the pandemic, especially during the outbreak at Broadmead. The hard work and effort is very much appreciated.
Since Dad went in, I have been very reassured that Broadmead Resthome have done all they can to look after Dad, so
huge credit for that.
During the outbreak, there was a concern that the back office was not fully supported when there were staff shortages, and the communication suffered as a result. People were working from home, and we didn't know if they were poorly or precautious, so it was frustrating that communication was not great, during the most anxious time (as a son of a resident).
We are all hoping that the pandemic has been/will be a one-off, however, a contingency should be put in place for managing the home in the event of absence.
There is a great, active residents group, which meet regularly, and asked if communication could be fed through that to save staff time, however, this didn't happen.
All in all very good.

Some two years on since my mother joined the residents at Broadmead, events have taken a turn that has completely changed the way in which residential care homes must operate. Despite vaccines, many of these changes may remain indefinitely.


Despite the regimens imposed, my mother seems to have emerged

largely as well as when she went into these quarantine conditions. It is a measure of the success of the staff at Broadmead in dealing with something that they have never dealt with before, that I can opine that they have achieved a level of care and protection that is an example to all.

Excellent carers who treated my mother with kindness, compassion and respect. Good management team and an excellent events coordinator- always a wonderful variety of activities on a daily basis.

Dad spent 14 months at Broadmead before he died in May 2020. The staff were so kind and friendly to him. He was suffering from mild dementia but the staff really brought him out of himself. He had constant company, was entertained very well and he loved having a laugh and banter with the staff. When
he went in, he was eating soft foods and had little appetite. That quickly changed and he was soon eating proper dinners. His bedroom was very comfortable, warm and clean. As he was a tall man, they arranged for him to have a bigger bed. He was ill for a few weeks before he died and everyone was so caring and attentive under very difficult circumstances with the pandemic in full swing.

Broadmead Rest Home meets the needs of its residents. The activities organiser is excellent. The staff have worked very hard over this last year coping with Covid 19. I just wish the main meal portions were served to suit the recipients to save wastage. The carers are wonderful.

Broadmead is a very welcoming rest home and has a family atmosphere. All the staff are very helpful and they appear to work well as a team. Residents are treated with respect and dignity and every effort is made to meet each individual’s needs. There are daily activities for the residents and help is
give to those who are less able so that they can participate. The food is excellent and plentiful. When my mother-in-law woke in the middle of the night she was often brought some sandwiches and a cup of tea!
Their medical care is excellent and any health concerns are quickly referred to the doctor or nursing team who respond very quickly.

My mother stayed at Broadmead for the final year of her life. During that time, I visited a couple of times a week, and the staff and management always demonstrated a very caring concern for my mother’s comfort and happiness, despite the challenges of my mother’s dementia. The manager and deputy manager,
were always very approachable and keen to address any issues that I raised. I can’t imagine a better place for my mother to be in her final months.

I have dedicated over twenty years to working within the healthcare sector, beginning my journey as a trainee Healthcare Assistant in a neuro-rehabilitation hospital in Wiltshire. From the very start, I knew that supporting others was my calling. As I progressed through roles in both nursing and residential homes, I gained invaluable experience caring for residents living with dementia and learned the importance of patience, empathy, and truly person-centred care.


In 2013, I joined Broadmead Resthome as a part-time Healthcare Assistant while raising my two young children. Over the years, I grew within the organisation, becoming a Senior Carer and later Head of Care. Each step allowed me to take on more responsibility and deepen my understanding of how to provide compassionate, dignified support to those who rely on us.


While at Broadmead Resthome, I achieved my LMC Level 5 qualification and was promoted to Deputy Manager. In March 2024, I was honoured to be appointed as the Registered Manager.


I am incredibly proud of my journey, the people I have supported, and the team I am privileged to lead. I believe wholeheartedly in creating a warm, safe, and respectful environment where residents feel valued and cared for. Using the knowledge and experience I’ve gained, I am committed to guiding my team so that together we can continue to provide the very best care for every individual who calls Broadmead Resthome their home.

I have worked within the healthcare sector for over twenty years. I began my career as a Healthcare Assistant and have since gained extensive experience across a range of settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, and community care.


I later spent many years supporting adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs, progressing into roles within supported living and community services. During this time, I developed strong leadership skills and advanced to Team Leader before serving as a Deputy Manager for six years.


I hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification and remain committed to continuous professional development.


In 2017, I joined Broadmead Resthome as a Healthcare Assistant, seeking to broaden my knowledge and experience within a different area of care. Over the past three years, I have progressed to Senior Carer and then Head of Care, roles that allowed me to take on greater responsibility while working closely with HCA and SHCA colleagues to support and develop their practice. In March 2024, I was delighted to be promoted to Deputy Manager of Broadmead Resthome.


I am also proud to serve as Broadmead’s safeguarding Champion, attending specialist training and sharing best practice with the team to enhance the quality of care we provide.


Like everyone at Broadmead Resthome, I remain dedicated to ensuring our residents receive the highest standard of compassionate, person-centred care.

Job Title: Maintenance Joined: 2017

I joined Broadmead in 2017 as a part-time driver, a role that allowed me to balance work with caring for my then young children. Before joining Broadmead, I gained many years of experience as a HGV driver, developing strong practical skills, resilience, and a disciplined approach to safety and responsibility. These qualities have continued to support me in my career within the care home sector.


In 2019, I transitioned into the Maintenance role at Broadmead, where I now take responsibility for ensuring the building, equipment, and grounds are safe, well-maintained, and comfortable for residents, staff, and visitors. I carry out both planned and reactive maintenance, conduct safety checks, and handle a wide range of repairs to keep the home running smoothly and efficiently.


Working in a care home has deepened my appreciation for the importance of a secure, well-kept environment, especially for older and vulnerable residents. I approach every task with patience, respect, and clear communication, always ensuring minimal disruption and a reassuring presence for residents.


I work closely with management and external contractors, maintain accurate compliance records, and uphold high health and safety standards at all times. With a strong work ethic, practical skill set, and a commitment to creating a safe and homely environment, I take pride in contributing to the wellbeing and comfort of everyone at Broadmead.

Job Title: Residents Service Manager (RSM) Joined: 2024

I joined Broadmead in November 2024 as head of activities and wellbeing, I had a promotion in April 2025 as Resident service manager.
I returned to the healthcare sector after a 15 year period of retraining within educational settings and horticulture.
I worked across local authority funded projects within schools, day centres, charities and care homes executing various programmes and during this time developing a greater understanding of dementia specific activities.
I gained both teacher training and dementia training qualifications and combined my knowledge of floristry and creative artistries to develop my role as the head of activities and wellbeing.
I have a passion for care and the ability to engage others with my enthusiasm for learning and positive wellbeing. it gives me immense pleasure to see others enjoy a meaningful life through engaging daily activities.
I am eager to continue to learn and grow my knowledge and skills to bring the best possible care I can to our residents. Everything we do is aimed at ensuring residents at Broadmead Resthome have an enriched, comfortable and enjoyable stay with us.

Job Title: Head Of Activities and Wellbeing Joined: 2025

I joined Broadmead in August 2025 as the Head of Activities and Wellbeing.
My career began in the Army, where I first learned the fundamentals of welding and gained the leadership and life skills that set the foundation for my professional journey. I went on to build a 15-year career in the welding industry, progressing through the ranks.


After many successful years in that field, I felt ready for a new direction—one that offered deeper meaning, personal connection, and the opportunity to make a lasting, positive difference in people’s lives. This led me to the care sector, where I have discovered a genuine passion for enhancing the well-being of our residents.


I strive to create meaningful, engaging activities that bring joy, purpose, and comfort to those in our care. Alongside this, I am committed to supporting residents emotionally—being someone they can rely on, talk to, and trust. I also enjoy raising funds to further enrich our activity programmes and ensure we always offer something special.


I bring together all the skills I’ve developed throughout my working life—leadership, teamwork, communication, creativity, and resilience—to thrive in this role. I joined Broadmead in 2025, bringing with me over 40 years of experience in the catering industry. My background spans a wide range of establishments, including casinos, military catering, pubs, hotels, restaurants, and care homes. This diverse experience has given me a deep understanding of food service at every level, from high-volume operations to personalised, resident-focused dining.


Throughout my career, I have developed a strong passion for delivering high-quality meals that are both nutritious and enjoyable. I thrive on the challenges that catering brings—adapting menus, meeting dietary needs, managing kitchen operations, and continuously improving the dining experience. For me, a clean, empty plate is the best reward, as it shows that the food I prepare brings comfort and satisfaction to the people I serve.


In a care home environment, I am committed to creating meals that support residents’ health, wellbeing, and personal preferences. I work closely with care teams to ensure dietary requirements are met, from fortified meals to texture-modified diets, while still maintaining flavour, presentation, and choice. I also take pride in maintaining the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness, and kitchen organisation.

Job Title: Head Of Housekeeping Joined: 2025

I joined Broadmead Resthome in 2025. I am a dedicated and compassionate professional with 25 years of experience in housekeeping and customer service, supported by 15 years of child care experience with the U.S. Military, where I developed a strong sense of responsibility, structure, and care for individuals of all ages. My background allows me to bring both high-quality housekeeping standards and a warm, person centred approach to a care home environment.


With extensive experience in maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and safety, I am committed to creating comfortable and dignified living spaces for residents. I understand the unique needs of care home environments, including infection control, personal room care, confidentiality, and the importance of contributing to residents’ overall wellbeing.


My leadership experience includes supervising teams, organizing daily tasks, managing supplies, and ensuring that all areas meet regulatory and health standards. I strive to maintain a calm, supportive atmosphere and encourage teamwork to provide the highest level of service to residents and staff.


Additionally, my completion of a Body Language Course has strengthened my communication skills, enhancing my ability to read, understand, and respond effectively to residents—including those who communicate non-verbally—as well as colleagues and visitors. This skill helps me support residents’ comfort, anticipate their needs, and create a reassuring environment.
