My mum had been a resident at Forest Edge for just over 2 1/2 years.
The management stated that they like to promote a "home from home" feel, that is exactly what they did for my mum.
We always found it to be friendly and professional. The staff were very welcoming and would always offer refreshments on visits.
Mum had a room overlooking the rear garden which was stunning and suited her as she loved the outdoors.

Food was freshly cooked at the home and mealtime choices were given daily, the meals always looked very appetising whenever I visited.

Also, my mums birthday was celebrated with all of the other residents, having a buffet meal and cake.
There was an activity planner for each month and it was displayed for everyone to see. Mum did not join in every day but was always asked.
The management were always very approachable and would always try to accommodate us with anything we required.

Overall mum was very happy at Forest Edge and made a couple of good friends whilst here.

My mum has been here at Forest Edge for a few months as it was recommended by a friend. I had concerns with things I have heard about care homes in general, but all I can say is my mum constantly says on every visit how nice everyone is. They are always friendly, talkative and nothing seems too much trouble. The food alway looks good quality and if the residents ask for something else, they try their best to accommodate. All the residents seem very happy there.

I cannot praise enough the care offered to my husband during his two-week stay for respite. Everything was just lovely - the care provided, the kindness of the staff, and the food. The home was lovely and clean and he was very well looked after. I would certainly be happy for him to stay there again and be confident in the knowledge that he would be happy to do so. Thank you to everyone involved in his care at Forest Edge.

The hard decision to admit my Mother to Forest Edge in early 2016 was made after visiting three Care Homes. As a family, we made the choice based on the large room available, the friendliness of the staff and a personal recommendation.
As Mum is an Alzheimer's sufferer but is used to some independence, the care was adjusted to her needs and capabilities.
It is reassuring to know that in emergency situations, the team act quickly and efficiently, always communicating promptly. After hospital admissions, the care has proven to be exemplary.
They recognise the need to monitor and encourage residents when they have poor appetites, encouraging the person with alternative meal options whenever possible.

Once the decision is made to move a loved one to a Care Home, there are initial feelings of guilt, but as time goes on there is the realisation that they are in a safe caring environment, which Forest Edge provides.

Forest Edge Care Home is a light, bright, airy and welcoming place. There is a friendly happy atmosphere.

The activities offered are various, well thought out and delivered with sensitivity.

Staff members are always cheerful, approachable and very helpful. A management member is always available, very approachable and flexible to the individual's need.

I have found that my Mother is always listened to, given respect and her dignity is upheld.

Mum was recommended to Forest Edge care home by a friend of someone who went into the home for one week for respite care then did not want to return to her own home.

This was a very high recommendation and the home has proved to be a very kind, caring, clean and secure home. Mum is very happy to be there along with the other residents. Her room is adequate and has a nice view of the garden.

The meals are of a high standard and are always freshly prepared and varied, cooked meals are hot and not warmed up. The carers are always kind and respectful to the residents and courteous to visitors. The security, which I have experienced, is of a very high standard.

Forest Edge is not a large care home, which I think is a benefit as it has a more homely feeling like a family community. Residents know, and are known by, all the staff and are not just a number.

My mother was admitted to Forest Edge Care Home on an emergency basis, hence the choice of an appropriate room was not available.
Her room was pleasant, facing the rear garden and she was well cared-for during her nine-day stay with regard to personal cleanliness and adequate meals.
She was able to receive visitors daily, visitors being offered refreshments on arrival, which were much appreciated making visits more of an occasion for everyone.
I was unhappy about the toilet and washing facilities being behind a flimsy curtain just inside the door, minimising my mother's privacy - but, as stated, this was an emergency admission and this negative aspect had to be accepted. (I do feel, however, that this style of the "ensuite" facility should be addressed and altered to a more conventional, private washroom/toilet.)

I am not sure my mother received adequate attention from staff, i.e. being chatted to regularly, but appreciate that they were kept busy with more pressing needs elsewhere.

Dad was very reluctant to have respite, although once there he soon settled in. His room was light and airy. The whole home was spotlessly clean. The gardens are very nice and pleasant to sit out in. There are different activities every day. The staff are all very caring and nothing was too much trouble. The food looked very nice and was nicely arranged. Dad said thanks to the cook it tasted lovely.

Much to our surprise dad said he would happily go back there again.

Thank you for running such a lovely home.

Overall Experience

My Aunt, who died at Forest Edge in December was a resident for five years. She had no children and I held POA for her and so I chose where she should live when it became unsafe for her to remain at home. I spent two days looking at various places, Forest Edge was the first and the one we chose. The staff really cared for and looked after her, not always an easy task as anyone who has lived with a person suffering from dementia will realise, effort was made to engage with her and to keep her socialised and, as far as possible, happy. The atmosphere in the house was one of a house not of an institution, the management and the nursing care was very good, there was banter and conversation and never rows of residents in chairs silent in front of televisions. It was never inconvenient to talk to me or for me to see my aunt. Aunt's care and management was frankly discussed and pragmatic and compassionate decisions were made jointly. I have no hesitation in recommending forest Edge.
