Mum was recommended to Forest Edge care home by a friend of someone who went into the home for one week for respite care then did not want to return to her own home.


This was a very high recommendation and the home has proved to be a very kind, caring, clean and secure home. Mum is very happy to

be there along with the other residents. Her room is adequate and has a nice view of the garden.


The meals are of a high standard and are always freshly prepared and varied, cooked meals are hot and not warmed up. The carers are always kind and respectful to the residents and courteous to visitors. The security, which I have experienced, is of a very high standard.


Forest Edge is not a large care home, which I think is a benefit as it has a more homely feeling like a family community. Residents know, and are known by, all the staff and are not just a number.

My mother was admitted to Forest Edge Care Home on an emergency basis, hence the choice of an appropriate room was not available.
Her room was pleasant, facing the rear garden and she was well cared-for during her nine-day stay with regard to personal cleanliness and adequate meals.
She was able
to receive visitors daily, visitors being offered refreshments on arrival, which were much appreciated making visits more of an occasion for everyone.
I was unhappy about the toilet and washing facilities being behind a flimsy curtain just inside the door, minimising my mother's privacy - but, as stated, this was an emergency admission and this negative aspect had to be accepted. (I do feel, however, that this style of the "ensuite" facility should be addressed and altered to a more conventional, private washroom/toilet.)
I am not sure my mother received adequate attention from staff, i.e. being chatted to regularly, but appreciate that they were kept busy with more pressing needs elsewhere.

Here at Forest Edge, we encourage all of our residents to spend time in the communal areas, to socialise with each other and with staff and to take part in the wide variety of activities we offer every day. However, we do realise that this is not to everyone’s taste and because of this, we offer various alternatives activity-wise for those happier in their own company. We aim to include and give as much time as possible to our residents and keep everyone involved, no matter what their interests or preferences. We always welcome any suggestions or new ideas on how best to do this.
In regards to the layout of our rooms and the facilities available here at Forest Edge, we do offer both closed and open plan ensuite toilet facilities, depending on the room. Due to the changing needs and abilities of our residents, we feel it is important in a care home setting to have use of the extra space available in our open plan en-suite facilities where necessary, meaning we are still able to care for our residents at the highest standard and in the way best suited to them. Again, we do appreciate that this is not suited to everybody, which is why we provide a clinical curtain for our residents that choose to use this. Our resident’s privacy is, of course, extremely important to us, which is why all staff will knock and wait for a response before entering anybody’s room.

Dad was very reluctant to have respite, although once there he soon settled in. His room was light and airy. The whole home was spotlessly clean. The gardens are very nice and pleasant to sit out in. There are different activities every day. The staff are all very caring and nothing was too much trouble.
The food looked very nice and was nicely arranged. Dad said thanks to the cook it tasted lovely.
Much to our surprise dad said he would happily go back there again.

My Aunt, who died at Forest Edge in December was a resident for five years. She had no children and I held POA for her and so I chose where she should live when it became unsafe for her to remain at home. I spent two days looking at various places, Forest Edge was the first and the one we chose.
The staff really cared for and looked after her, not always an easy task as anyone who has lived with a person suffering from dementia will realise, effort was made to engage with her and to keep her socialised and, as far as possible, happy. The atmosphere in the house was one of a house not of an institution, the management and the nursing care was very good, there was banter and conversation and never rows of residents in chairs silent in front of televisions. It was never inconvenient to talk to me or for me to see my aunt. Aunt's care and management was frankly discussed and pragmatic and compassionate decisions were made jointly. I have no hesitation in recommending forest Edge.
