Mum has been a resident at Oaklands for the past four years and has always been treated with kindness, care and dignity by all of the lovely staff working there. They always keep us updated with any changes in her health and well being and respond very quickly to any queries that we might have. They also keep us informed with a news letter and notice board in reception of all of the activities and upcoming events that they put on for the residents each month which is most appreciated. Mum enjoys her meals ( especially the puddings !) and the menu is varied and tailored to the residents requirements. I visit mum twice a week and always feel welcomed and made to feel at home which is also important to me. I have noticed that recently some of the ladies have formed a little knitting circle in the lounge which really nice to see. They make little clothes for children and bobble hats and scarfs for adults its really heart warming.

Mum was a resident at Oaklands for 18 months. She was very happy during her time there and we as a family were delighted with the care she received. Towards the end of her life the staff at Oaklands were absolutely outstanding in their care of Mum and also in the way they looked after and helped us as her family. We were always kept informed of everything that was going on and we can't thank the staff enough for enabling us to be with Mum at the end of her life. We would absolutely recommend Oaklands Care Home, the level of care Mum received was second to none and we as a family can't thank them enough for their kindness and support.

Recently attended the Christmas party where they had a pantomime, lovely atmosphere and felt very homely. Relatives were welcomed and encouraged to get involved. The team is well run and approachable. A credit to the service.

We are so happy & relieved that mum was able to stay at Oaklands. She was in a bad way at home, very unwell, frail, not eating & lonely & really giving up on life.

Within a few weeks, she looks so much happier & healthier & it's such a relief to know she is in such a caring environment. She's enjoying the food & activities & making friends. The staff have all been fantastic, and the manager, Petra has been amazing in supporting us throughout this stressful time. Mum doesn't want to leave, so we are hoping that she can stay permanently now.

It was my grandads birthday. He had a lovely day and staff helping to celebrate his day! Some of the staff were doing activities with some of the residents. Both my grandparents decided to watch and we all persuaded my grandad to get involved with the bowling activity! I also got persuaded to get involved but it was a lovely day!

The care home staff have been excellent in their care of my step father. My wife and I visit him every week and we observe the care that he and the other residents receive, especially when staff members go way beyond their call of duty and keep the residents entertained and happy. My sister also visits every week and is of the same opinion as I am, that this care home and its staff perform an excellent level of care for all of its residents. Well done Oaklands Waterlooville.

Review from J N (Relative of Resident) published on 8 April 2025 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience
My relative came in able to walk with a walking frame, left unable to support herself. Was put into chair in morning and left all day. No encouragement to maintain mobility.
Very little interaction with staff (bar one) made a point of engaging in conversation.
Came to visit one day to find another patient had defecated on her chair. Staff admitted that they knew who the patient was and that this was not the first time this had occurred. Locks on doors seem to be a problem. Need maintenance to replacement.
Expensive hearing aid lost. Had to claim on home insurance.
Ankles swollen.
Arriving home the nurse was called after overnight the ankles were weeping fluid.
Total disregard of the problem by staff at the home.
Seems to be a lack of reclining tyre chairs in the lounge. Frequently found my relative with head on chest. Not good for posture.

In conclusion, the word care is missing from the title. This home needs scrutiny asap.

Reply from Georgina Gibbs, Registered Manager at Oaklands

We're sorry to hear your relative's experience didn't meet expectations. We take all concerns seriously and use them as opportunities to improve care. Your relative arrived with swollen legs, and we took immediate action, consulting with DN's and GPs. We were unaware her water retention medication...

My stepfather was well cared for during his 2 week respite stay. The manager managed her team of staff well, and was friendly and professional. The staff were attentive, kind, and caring towards my stepfather, and he felt safe at Oaklands. All our requests were helpfully responded to. My stepfather enjoyed his meals the staff provided and said that they regularly spoke to him and asked if there was anything he needed. There was no limit to family visiting.

My father passed away in your care on January 12th, and while this was not wholly unexpected, it was obviously still a shock. From the first call, at 06:30 to the last at 19:00, we received great care. He was cared for with great dignity; we were able to get to see him and really could not have asked for more.
He first went into the home in 2016 after our mother passed away and has slowly deteriorated due to his Dementia but throughout, despite all the changes and the pandemic, the care has been superb - a big thank you to all the staff, without you all I think we would have had a much tougher time in his final year's.

Thank you.

Absolutely dreadful place from start to finish.
Too much to write but end of life care was disgusting. We asked to be notified at any time of day or night so we could be with our mother/grandmother.
Apparently, her life was ending at 3 AM she passed at 5 AM and they called us at 9.41 AM!

Do not place your loved ones in their care. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Oaklands is a very pleasant, comfortable, clean and tidy place. They make patients feel welcome and show very good care to their residents.

I was designated as an emergency care practitioner but this has never come about. Why when visiting my wife it can't be done in her room instead of being cordoned off in a corner of the lounge, I think restrictions are a little over the top. My wife has now been a resident for 15 months and in that time has been well cared for by a great bunch of carers. General cleanliness in the home is excellent.

MY dad first came to Oaklands for respite care in February and now permanent, he has settled well. He was confused and upset at first, but is very happy and likes being in the home now. I would say at the moment he's the best I have seen him for a long time. His health seems good he's lost a bit of weight which is good and he's happy. He is well cared for by staff they are always friendly and helpful and likes to joke around with Dad. The home is pleasant and clean. Staff encourage Dad to come out of his room which is good.

While mum was at Oaklands, we as a family felt she was always safe, happy and well cared for. All of the carers and support staff gave exceptional care and consideration to all of her needs. They also were very friendly and obliging to us. Full credit to them. Although all of the managers have been fully supportive and engaging, have found it a little unsettling to have as many changes to home manager in such a short time.
