My Dad has been at Aspen Lodge for most of 2020. First for respite care and then, because he settled so well it became permanent.
The staff team at Aspen have looked after him so well during this difficult year and kept him safe and well.
In the early part of the year, before restrictions, the family
were welcomed into the home and able to visit as often as we liked. They have always been kind to us also and helped us to get the best out of our time with Dad, even now when we have ‘window visits ‘.
I have recommended Aspen when people have asked about my experience.

Friendly home with hard working staff. Every effort is made to treat residents with respect. Rooms are not large but suitable. Premises were clean. The room that was used had en-suite toilet/washbasin - unsure if all rooms have this option. It may well have been due to my visit times an hour after lunch
started, but I did not see any staff one to one, other than assistance to reach or return after personal needs.

There was a birthday party arranged for tea-time on one of the days I visited. I did think there could have been an additional staff member on duty, as they did appear stretched at times due to holiday and sick leave. No fault with any of the staff.

My aunt has been a resident of Aspen Lodge for the last 18 months. She has truly blossomed since going into this home. I visit very regularly and aunty is always very clean & tidy & she has gained much-needed weight. The staff are very friendly to all the visitors no matter how busy they may be & I
always get offered a cup of tea or coffee. All the staff are very kind & patient with my aunt & with all the other residents. It is like a big family. My aunt is always telling me how lucky she feels to be in such a nice home where the staff are all so kind. I am very happy with Aspen lodge & would definitely recommend it, as would my aunt.

All carers are friendly. They ensure they get to know the residents and do extra little things such as bring them up a favourite cup of soup outside of mealtimes. They will take the time to stop and chat about residents' interests. Everything is extremely clean - no smells here! The staff are approachable
and will do their best to resolve any issues. Being a small home it suits my stepfather well as he doesn't want to be overwhelmed by lots of people. There is a visiting hairdresser and chiropodist which he loves. He enjoys the food and on the odd occasion he doesn't like something they will offer him another meal. Teas and drinks are given regularly but are on demand. Security is good. The front door has a code and an alarm. There are buzzers in the room to call staff. The manager is approachable and will let you know of any problems so that we can get together to resolve them. My stepfather has settled well here and I would recommend the home to anyone who prefers a quieter smaller setting.

We had a lot of problems with my mother before she went to Aspen Lodge Care Home. The manager told us not to worry anymore. That is exactly what has happened. We are so glad that we chose Aspen Lodge Care Home for my mother's sake and our peace of mind.

Aspen Lodge Care Home is where my mother is. Since she moved in, in December 2015 I have visited her quite often and being there opened my eyes to how the elderly are. I've got to say this rest home is very well run. They have excellent staff who help in every way. I like the way the stay starts with
breakfast and activities mid morning then dinner at 12. The food is excellent and in the afternoon casual activities with watching a film of their choice with tea at 5 pm. It's clean at all times and I would recommend anyone to go there. At least the elderly who are there are very happy.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.418)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.418) out of 10 for Aspen Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.618 for Aspen Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (62 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 89 Ratings = 4.618
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Aspen Lodge Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
