My aunt was diagnosed with Dementia three years ago. Dad and I urgently visited many of the local care homes and cannot believe how fortunate we were to stumble across Broomfield Lodge. From the moment we stepped across the threshold, we knew this small, intimate, friendly home was going to prove promising
and our positive first impression just kept growing. A meeting with senior staff gave us a clear insight to what Broomfield had to offer, the level of care the staff were able to provide, a well thought out variety of booked entertainment and pamper sessions that would lift any dampened spirits. It is such a difficult, emotionally charged, decision to face, made harder if Dementia means making that decision on a loved one's behalf, but, I can honestly say, it was one of the best decisions we made for my lovely aunt. As her health has declined the care has excelled expectation. To all the staff, a huge thank you for truly making it home from home for her.

When we were looking for a care home, we looked at quite a few. As soon as I walked into Broomfield Lodge it felt very happy and homely, my sister and I knew this was the one. After mum being here just over a year, we couldn't be happier. It took mum a while to settle in which is not surprising, as,
at 92, she was still living on her own with family caring for her.
Just lately, our mum has been unwell. The staff are like part of our family now. Thank you.

This is a very well run, caring care home.
The communal area is open and bright and I always find it very welcoming.
The staff are very good and professional and I know that the lady I visit always says how well she is looked after.
There is a new activity coordinator who had engaged a number of
residents in a game on my last visit.
The whole place is tidy and very clean and the senior management are very friendly and approachable.

Broomfield Lodge provides a very pleasant, clean, tidy and friendly home.
The rooms are kept clean and tidy by excellent staff, who keep the home odour free and very clean.
The staff are excellent.
They are caring, supportive, cheerful, helpful and friendly, whilst maintaining a very good professional
level of care.
The food is good and my relative really looks forward to her delicious meals and drinks are plentiful.
The home provides many varied activities throughout the day to keep the residents entertained and encourage activity - both mental and physical.
Great home with a family atmosphere.

My mother has been in Broomfield Lodge for just about 15 months now. Her dementia and poor eyesight have made it a difficult transition from family home to care home. Due to a recent deterioration in Mums health, the care home management responded by suggesting Mum be moved to a downstairs room with
the added provision of a hospital type bed. This would better enable staff to meet Mum's needs with the use of hoisting equipment to move her safely around the home, with the added benefit of easier monitoring of Mum whilst she is in her bedroom.
We continue to witness staff adapt and respond to her daily needs. I have always found management and staff very polite and approachable.
While no care home will ever fully meet your expectations for your loved one Broomfield Lodge certainly tries.
Would I recommend them to friends and family? Yes, I would!!!

First impression, helpful, welcoming staff. Warm and comfortable atmosphere. Mum has Alzheimer's and was very confused, withdrawn, frail and thin. Since she has been in Broomfield Lodge she is a different lady. She is happy, chatty and is eating very well. To have peace of mind, knowing Mum is being
cared for is safe. Lovely home. Could not have asked for a better place for Mum to be.

Broomfield Lodge was, from my initial enquiry visit until my father died, a haven. The staff were kind, caring, professional and fun. They made a difficult experience not only bearable but often happy. The place itself was always warm and welcoming. The activities and subsequently activities worker
were inclusive, fun and appropriate. The support for us as a family was always 100%

My mum has dementia, she entered Broomfield Lodge having been in hospital for 3 weeks. Mum was unable to walk, eating and drinking minimal amounts. Mum was withdrawn, speaking very little and incontinent. In the five months she has lived at Broomfield Lodge, all of these functions of her life have improved.
Mum walks with a frame and the supervision of one person.
She eats all the lovely food with relish including the once a month treat of fish and chips from the chip shop. Mum remains muddled at times but her anxiety levels have reduced, enabling her to join in with activities, interact with staff and other residents and she has a ready smile for all members of the family when we visit.
It is good to see her settled and this is in no small post due to the very caring friendly staff who take the time and great care to meet all the residents needs. Always a pleasure to visit.

We have always been very happy with the care given to our mother in the two years she was resident. ALL the staff showed her kindness and consideration. The family were so impressed as well as grateful for the care, compassion and dignity shown to my mother especially in the last weeks of her life.
We could not have asked for a better care home for her.

After visiting many homes in the area, I am so delighted to have found Broomfield Lodge. It may not be the "poshest" but the staff are amazing. There is a very welcoming atmosphere and every member of staff from the cleaner through to the cook are so helpful and will always acknowledge my mother when
passing (food looks amazing).
Of course, everything is not perfect all the time but they all try their hardest to create a safe, welcoming and happy environment, often under very difficult circumstances.

Broomfield Lodge is a small home, which feels like being in a family. The staff are friendly, caring and the management always have time to talk with us, the family, and to the residents. It is always clean and tidy, the menu is varied and many of the residents enjoy engaging in the activities - especially
when there is a singer in!

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.542)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.542) out of 10 for Broomfield Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.942 for Broomfield Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (65 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 69 Ratings = 4.942
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Broomfield Lodge Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8, which has been reached with 6 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
