A wonderful caring home which is all about the residents and their individual needs. It feels like a family and the carers really do care. I am very happy with my mum's care and feel at ease when I say goodbye when I leave.

In his 90s, being of sound mind and very independent my father needed a bit of help. He went to stay in The Chestnuts with some trepidation for a month's trial. Within days he knew this was the place for him. He had a lovely room decorated to his taste. Spacious for him to bring his treasured belongings. For him, he wanted to be able to converse with fellow residents. He made great friends. In lockdown when calling him he would sometimes answer and say "I'm sorry darling I am talking with my friends, can you call later!".
He also felt he was valued. In the monthly resident meetings he said everyone had a voice and things would be acted upon. Staff were attentive, caring and would recognise when he wasn't feeling himself and supported him through these times.
He enjoyed the very well maintained, beautiful, large garden plus trips out, a local school visiting, "Sparkle" etc .

On visiting I felt at ease and got to know staff and residents. Such a happy atmosphere. Lovely memories.

I had plenty of time to plan. My husband who was affected by post-polio syndrome began losing the use of his legs in 1996 but retained his mental faculties until his death from a stroke in 2012. I then moved back from Devon to the house we has sold to our son in 1990, becoming the new granny in the annexe, like my mother before me, I lived independently, enjoying a very good social life but after two falls, causing fractures of hips and wrist, I became increasingly "wobbly".

Following discussions with all parties and an experimented week in another home, I moved here in August 2018. It's a quarter mile from my former (twice) home, I was made very welcome. I have a beautiful room, I have made new friends and am able to continue with my membership of local groups. I am happily settled and consider myself very fortunate.

Chestnuts is a small, friendly care home. It is well run and maintained and provides a high level of personalised care for its residents. The staff are well trained, friendly and approachable. It is a real comfort to know that my mother is in such good hands.

I came here in February 2018. After living with my daughter and son-in-law for five years. It was my decision to come here but it took me a few weeks to get settled in although other residents and staff were all very friendly and helpful. Now I feel very much at home here. I'm well looked after and have enjoyed several trips out during the summer in the minibus now with Christmas approaching, I'm looking forward to all the events which have been planned for us to enjoy.

My father has been living in the home for 10 months and has settled in very well. There is a very welcoming and homely feeling to The Chestnuts. The staff are very kind and supportive and know him very well and understand his needs. His room is on the first floor, he has his own en-suite bathroom and has access to support with washing and dressing should he need it. He has access to lift making it easy for him to move around the home on his own. I know my father is cared for in a safe environment, with staff who are competent in their roles providing him with dignity and respect at all times. The Chestnuts have registered him with a local GP practice, whose GP(s) visit the home regularly. He also has access to podiatry and hairdressing services who regularly visit too. There are daily activities for residents to take part in should they wish. I would recommend The Chestnuts to anyone thinking of placing a loved one into a residential care home.
