My mother had been slowly going downhill at home after the death of her husband of 66 years. She had a minor stroke in late March which accelerated her decline. She eventually needed hospitalisation in July. Prior to her hospitalisation and during her initial stay in hospital we were seriously concerned
that she had passed the point of no return. She was essentially giving up. Through discussion with the hospital we agreed that she should be discharged to a care home. My mother had previously checked out The Grove Residential care home for my father several years earlier. As with many old folk she had never wanted to go into a care home. The initial few weeks was for respite while we assessed her ongoing needs. After the initial 'settling in' weeks (roughly 3 to 4) she is now 'born again'. She is once again thoroughly enjoying life and is smiling again. The staff and so kind and welcoming. All we can say is 'thank you' - it was the best decision for her and she's now a full resident.

My Nan went in for respite back in September for 2 weeks so that we as a family could take a bit of well needed us time after 2 years of looking after her at home. After a week of being in the Grove my nan had perked up so much and absolutely LOVED it they're that she actually said that she didnt want
to return home. Its so nice to see the staff interacting with her & ensuring she is okay at all times. They allow her to be as independent as she can be and is always so happy when we go to see her. Its nice that we can visit and take her out whenever we like and actually just be Daughter/Grandchildren.She has thrived so much whilst being at the grove and really enjoys the social interaction with the other residents. They have so much going on for the residents its really such a lovely place for her to be.We as a family are happy that she is happy!
Id like to thank all the staff for everything they do,they really make it a special place for the residents & no matter what are always smiling

My take on the home is a caring crew, keep the residents occupied if they wish. Staff seem to be happy to assist when necessary. Food is good. Rooms are cleaned. Residents can go outside in garden if they wish. As this is good for mental health as is the games played. Hairdressers, chiropodist, opticians
etc come to home.

My father spent just over 2 years at The Grove until his recent passing.
As a family we cannot thank the staff enough for their support from the moment he moved in to his passing. The staff go above and beyond to support residents and families.
There are daily activities for those who wish to partake
and 3 lounge areas they can use if they want or spend family time there. The garden and garden room are lovely and provide a peaceful place to sit or have a little walk.
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending The Grove.

The care that mum receives at The Grove is excellent, nothing is too much trouble. Mum says she feels like she is in a hotel and loves all the staff who look after her. Since arriving at the end of last year she is now happy, content and enjoying life again. Her mental wellbeing has improved just by
having people to talk to and laugh with. Her room has been filled with her own photographs and ornaments which makes it more personal for her and she enjoys her weekly visit to the onsite hairdresser to be pampered plus having her nails painted makes it feel like home for her.
The menus are fantastic and she enjoys a glass of wine with lunch and recently had a continental breakfast which went down very well with her. There are many varied activities on offer and she is looking forward to being able to sit in the garden in the summer.

My brother has been at The Grove for 3 years. He has been well looked after and given every support he needs. He has a good choice of food for the main meals. He has been taken to the local hospital, and also visited by medical staff, when needed. He has had good attention from an optician. Staff
are attentive to his daily needs and patient with him. The Home provides a range of facilities, including outside visits, for him to choose from. I know he is safe.

I have visited him well over 100 times and some of my family also call to see him. In these visits we are always greeted warmly and given support. The Grove is a home I happily recommend to others.

My aunt has been a resident of The Grove Residential Home for over two years and during this time the management and staff have truly gone above and beyond to make her as happy and comfortable as possible. I'm sure she hasn't been the easiest resident but they've looked after her and treated her with
pleasure and care and respect. When my aunt was more mobile and articulate she enjoyed taking part in the activities and always praised the food. Now that her illness has progressed and she is mostly bed-bound, she is kept entertained and seeing the smile on her face when her favourite carers come into the room is lovely. I highly recommend this care home.

My mother was well cared for at all times. She was always clean and tidy, clothes were regularly laundered. The food was excellent, good home-cooked food menu had a good choice, nicely presented. I personally ate there and enjoyed the food. I cannot fault the dedication of the staff who were always
helpful, friendly and polite.

I can't recommend this care home enough. My grandad lives here and from day one the care has been exceptional.
The staff are welcoming and very thoughtful.
Always there to discuss any worries, and put your mind at rest.
We are a big family and family means everything to us. So to know he is there
makes us very happy. My grandad always says thank you for finding me such a lovely place.

All the staff are always helpful, caring and supportive to my mum, and to my family when we visit my mum.
The home is always clean, and tidy and smells nice. A good selection of activities and my mum always has opportunities to interact with fellow residents and staff.
A fantastic menu, followed by
plenty of nutritious snacks throughout the day.

My sister had always been the mainstay for her family and mine until the time came when falls and ill health made living at home physically impossible.
When we investigated care homes in the area we were really concerned that some, would not meet the expectations needed for my sister's long-term care.
Then
we found The Grove and immediately were impressed by the professional yet friendly atmosphere of management and staff and the fact that residents themselves seemed happy and welcoming was reassuring.
It was explained to us then that care and medical care for residents would be a priority, food would be good and varied, the entertainment provided daily for those who wanted.
My sister has been resident at The Grove for nearly two years, we visit regularly and have found the care she receives exceeds everything that we were initially told and we could have hoped for, thanks to you all at The Grove.

20 months ago my husband's sister moved into the Grove after it being highly recommended to the family. It has lived up to all our expectations and more. My sister-in-law has settled in very well and is happy and very well looked after. Being unable to stand or walk, every morning she is asked what
she would like to wear, giving her the dignity of choosing for herself as with all the many social activities and dining, she can choose to go or stay in her very comfortable homely room. As to dining, there is plenty of choice and a varied menu of good food cooked on the premises. There is no restriction on visiting and each time go we are met with a warm and friendly welcome, we feel part of the Grove family and are treated as such. It's never easy finding a place for a loved one when they can no longer look after themselves but we were blessed the day we found The Grove.

After a fall in her home and a short spell in hospital, I found myself looking at care homes for my mum. I viewed several before The Grove but knew immediately when I entered that this was the one and a year on I still feel the same. Initially, it was just for respite but my mum soon decided that she
would like to remain at The Grove permanently. All the staff have been amazing, nothing has been too much trouble and they all find time to talk to you. Mother joins in with lots of the twice-daily activities which is something we felt that she wouldn't do, she has also enjoyed the lovely garden during the summer months along with some of the other residents with new friendships being made. The food is fantastic with a varied menu to choose from with the option to dine with others or in your own room. Opticians, chiropodists, hairdressers etc are all available at The Grove making life so much simpler.
Highly recommend this place.

I can 100% recommend 'The Grove'.
When we realised our dad had to go in a home we were devastated! We knew for his own safety and care that he needed to.
The manager and her staff guided Dad and us through the settling-in period with compassion and kindness.
Dad has had his ups and downs plus his
own frustrations at being in his situation, but he has now settled brilliantly. Even joining in with games and generally being sociable. Something we just did not expect!
If you want somewhere that is the closest you can get to 'home from home'. Then this is the place.
We will be forever grateful that Dad is happy in his last few years.

I have much pleasure in writing this review of The Grove. My father joined The Grove in January 2024. For my father to reside in a care home was a worrying and very difficult decision for us to make. I was also worried of how he would adapt to no longer being cared for by myself. The Grove was highly
recommended to us by a friend whose mother was cared for there. I needn't of worried! My father, and us as a family, were welcomed by all management and nursing staff from the minute he arrived. The staff are always happy and welcome us with smiling faces every time we visit. My father is happy there and says that he is looked after very well. The home is spotless, food is good, and the atmosphere is welcoming, caring and happy. My father can be particular at times and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. My father is offered to join in the daily activities or he can remain in his room if he chooses to. My father always looks clean and presentable when we visit.

My Mum has been at The Grove for the last 18 months, after the initial shock of moving home, Mum has settled in nicely to her surroundings, making new friends. She has been treated with the utmost compassion, respect and dignity, courtesy, there is always laughter coming somewhere in the house. All
the staff and management are approachable and respectful to the residents' and families' needs, nothing is too much trouble. There is always something to do, activities, chats etc. when Mum is in the mood she will join in. The food is good and the home is spotless. The events we have attended for the residents are well organised and a pleasure to attend. If you are looking for a residence for your loved one, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home, it's a lovely place to live.

I live in the North East and the home kindly arranged for us to have lunch with my Dad in a private area. The residents seemed really happy and engaging and so did the staff. Many have worked there for years and it has a really low staff turnover. I had heard good things about the home and the manager
but we were still quite surprised to experience it. I worked in the NHS for 40 years and staff from care homes escorting them to ED would rarely know their names and be incapable of handing over a patient. The Grove reminded me of the early days of my career when care staff knew the patient or resident and were not just agency short-term cover. This was a refreshing experience. My Dad has a nice room with his personal landline phone and if he is somewhere else the carers answer it and talk to me. This again is something usually from a bygone age. I have seen my Dad rally following abysmal care from other settings. A big thank you to the manager and her staff.

My wife's grandfather moved into The Grove Care Home on the 1st of May, having spent 14 weeks before this between hospitals for various illnesses. Upon leaving the hospital he left a very frail man of 95. Within only a few weeks he has not only recovered to how he was prior to going into hospital but
is actually looking and acting more like he was 5-6 years ago. He has gained weight (having lost weight in hospital) and his personal hygiene is now amazing. Having spent 14 weeks in hospital in pyjamas and only having a handful of showers, he is now showered shaved and in clean clothes every day. He is constantly checked on if he is in his room, making sure he is drinking and is provided fantastic meals at least 3-4 times a day! They encourage families to come in and have lunch with the residence which gives the home a lovely family feel. I am yet (in 16 weeks) to meet a member of staff who isn't helpful, polite and cheerful. Nothing is too much trouble for anyone working there!

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.971)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.971) out of 10 for The Grove Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.971 for The Grove Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (265 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 272 Ratings = 4.971
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Grove Residential Home is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
