The Grove Residential Home

I have much pleasure in writing this review of The Grove. My father joined The Grove in January 2024. For my father to reside in a care home was a worrying and very difficult decision for us to make. I was also worried of how he would adapt to no longer being cared for by myself. The Grove was highly recommended to us by a friend whose mother was cared for there. I needn't of worried! My father, and us as a family, were welcomed by all management and nursing staff from the minute he arrived. The staff are always happy and welcome us with smiling faces every time we visit. My father is happy there and says that he is looked after very well. The home is spotless, food is good, and the atmosphere is welcoming, caring and happy. My father can be particular at times and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. My father is offered to join in the daily activities or he can remain in his room if he chooses to. My father always looks clean and presentable when we visit.

My Mum has been at The Grove for the last 18 months, after the initial shock of moving home, Mum has settled in nicely to her surroundings, making new friends. She has been treated with the utmost compassion, respect and dignity, courtesy, there is always laughter coming somewhere in the house. All the staff and management are approachable and respectful to the residents' and families' needs, nothing is too much trouble. There is always something to do, activities, chats etc. when Mum is in the mood she will join in. The food is good and the home is spotless. The events we have attended for the residents are well organised and a pleasure to attend. If you are looking for a residence for your loved one, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home, it's a lovely place to live.

My Mum has been at The Grove for the last 7 years, in this time she has been treated with the utmost compassion, respect and dignity. All the staff and management are approachable and respectful to the residents and family's needs, nothing is too much trouble. My mum has been very happy here, has made friends and joined in and enjoys the daily activities. The food is great and the home is spotless. They put on events for the residents and families can attend which is lovely. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home, it's a lovely place to live.

I live in the North East and the home kindly arranged for us to have lunch with my Dad in a private area. The residents seemed really happy and engaging and so did the staff. Many have worked there for years and it has a really low staff turnover. I had heard good things about the home and the manager but we were still quite surprised to experience it. I worked in the NHS for 40 years and staff from care homes escorting them to ED would rarely know their names and be incapable of handing over a patient. The Grove reminded me of the early days of my career when care staff knew the patient or resident and were not just agency short-term cover. This was a refreshing experience. My Dad has a nice room with his personal landline phone and if he is somewhere else the carers answer it and talk to me. This again is something usually from a bygone age. I have seen my Dad rally following abysmal care from other settings. A big thank you to the manager and her staff.

My wife's grandfather moved into The Grove Care Home on the 1st of May, having spent 14 weeks before this between hospitals for various illnesses. Upon leaving the hospital he left a very frail man of 95. Within only a few weeks he has not only recovered to how he was prior to going into hospital but is actually looking and acting more like he was 5-6 years ago. He has gained weight (having lost weight in hospital) and his personal hygiene is now amazing. Having spent 14 weeks in hospital in pyjamas and only having a handful of showers, he is now showered shaved and in clean clothes every day. He is constantly checked on if he is in his room, making sure he is drinking and is provided fantastic meals at least 3-4 times a day! They encourage families to come in and have lunch with the residence which gives the home a lovely family feel. I am yet (in 16 weeks) to meet a member of staff who isn't helpful, polite and cheerful. Nothing is too much trouble for anyone working there!

The Grove is a lovely care home. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming. The resident's rooms are kept clean and tidy as well as the shared living spaces which feel very homely. There is also a lovely garden which is perfect to sit out in when friends and family go to visit. The level of care provided is outstanding.

The care and compassion shown by The Grove staff have transformed my Grandad's life and given our family peace of mind. From his arrival, it was clear the staff were committed to all his needs. An early riser, my Grandad prefers a 5:15 AM shower, and the staff adjusted their schedule to accommodate this. When he first arrived, he was frail, but in 12 weeks he has gained weight, looks healthier and enjoys regular grooming. The Grove excels in maintaining a clean, comfortable environment. The staff's warmth, kindness, and professionalism are evident in every interaction, ensuring each resident feels valued and cared for. The involvement and support they extend to our family, such as inviting us for Sunday lunches, have strengthened our bonds. Most importantly, The Grove has given us peace of mind, knowing my Grandad is in excellent hands. As we celebrate his 95th birthday next week, we are grateful for the exceptional care that has made this milestone possible. Thank you, The Grove team.

I am so pleased that we chose The Grove for my wife. There are lots of activities, if the residents wish to join in. The staff make sure that all are included as individuals (this is important for my wife, who can't speak following a stroke and Alzheimer's). Care, including links with the nearby GP’s surgery, is excellent. Visitors are welcome at any time. A happy home with quality staff - and good home-cooked meals.

Dad moved into The Grove in April 2022 after mum suffered a stroke and could no longer look after him. He has always been active but can be stubborn and difficult to look after. He is now 91, but would rather use the stairs than submit to using the lift! We are so grateful The Grove was recommended to us. The building is light, clean and well-maintained. Dad's room is bright and has a view of the gardens. The staff are friendly and helpful and keep me well informed about his health, the activities he joins in with and the trips out he takes. They ensure he showers and changes his clothes regularly. He says the food is excellent and his only complaint is that there is nothing to complain about! Dad is able to decide whether he wants to join in any of the daily activities or not; to stay in his room or to join other residents in the dining/common room to eat his meals or drink his regular mugs of tea. I feel welcome when I visit, especially if accompanied by one of our dogs!

I cannot recommend The Grove highly enough. My mother suddenly became very unwell in July and was hospitalised for over a month. She was unable to return to her home due to her health/mobility needs. After visiting a number of homes, we looked around The Grove and instantly knew it was the right place for mum. Staff were warm, knowledgeable and passionate. The building is clean, spacious, beautifully furnished and the gardens are wonderful! Our (rather stubborn!) mum was initially reluctant to move into a home but accepted that we had no other option. I was worried about how she would settle into a new way of life after living on her own for so long. I needn’t have worried. From the moment she arrived, she has been made to feel welcome and valued. Our initial plan for a few weeks of respite care has changed - mum now feels so happy there that she wants to stay longer! Her words were “this place is good for me!” Mum is making amazing progress, both physically and emotionally.

It is wonderful to see my dad find his sense of humour again, to be relaxed and content once more. For myself, I see he is well looked after, even spoilt at times!

My mother has been happy at the Grove Residential Home and we have found the management takes formal steps to ensure that she and her family are completely content with her care and that all her needs are met. If at any time we have contacted the manager we have found her to be receptive. During Lockdown we were able to see mum in a booth that was built to comply with the rules. On her birthday her great-grandchildren were able to sing to her as staff provided a room where she could sit behind the window whilst we, her family, sat on the patio outside that window. We consider we were so lucky to be able to maintain our contact during the pandemic without compromising the rules, unlike many other families in the UK. We have recommended the Grove to other families seeking care for their relatives without reservation and have no regrets about our choice. The ownership has changed whilst mum has been there but the caring ethos remains.

The Grove has been caring for Mum following a hospital visit in November 2022. The care she has received has been absolutely wonderful; she has now made friends with many of her fellow residents. They are kept entertained with games and sing-a-longs, and the food is excellent too. The staff, both carers and management, are very easy to talk to and caring. I was initially concerned about how she would take to a residential care home, but I couldn’t be happier with where she is. I know Mum feels the same, and it’s a weight off our minds to know she is safe, being looked after and, of course, happy.

I cannot recommend The Grove Residential Home enough. The whole ethos, environment and care my grandmother received here was incredible. Every member of staff was approachable, kind, and caring and nothing was ever too much trouble. My grandmother's best interests were always The Groves' top priority. We were always really well communicated with and for any changes or concerns we were immediately informed. My grandmother loved every member of staff and she felt she was part of their family. As a family, we will be forever grateful to the manager and all the staff for how much they did for our Grandma.

The Grove Residential Home is a fabulous care home - my mum loves being here and the level of care is exceptional. Making the decision to move any family member into residential care is always hard but Mum chose this location herself and is very happy. There are activities during the day that Mum enjoys and also trips out. Back in October 2022, Mum caught Covid and it was touch and go, the love and care shown by the staff was lovely and they are now part of our family too. We 100% recommend The Grove!

If it wasn’t for the caring, wonderful management and staff at the Grove my mother-in-law wouldn’t be here today. She entered the Grove 6 years ago being in a very dark place, losing her beloved husband suddenly. Her mental health was extremely fragile, however, with the patience and caring loving nature of everyone at the Grove she now lives life to the full with a smile on her face, a bouncy 91-year-old! She participates in all of the daily activities (there’s always plenty going on), trips out and socialising with other residents. The facilities are lovely, all rooms are cleaned on a daily basis as is the laundry. A hairdresser visits twice a week and my mother-in-law loves having her hair done. Her dietary needs are fully respected and adhered to (she’s diabetic) as are all of her religious and medication requirements. If she had any questions or issues, the management office door is always open. We can’t thank the Grove ‘family’ enough for what they do for her. Thank you.

I honestly, could not be happier with the care and was not surprised to find them awarded a place in the Top 20 Care homes.

All the staff are great I know it's their job BUT you can see that it's a passion that they have nothing but nothing is too much trouble Would I go there if I had to in a flash.

My mum moved into The Grove Residential Home, after losing my dad and a series of nasty falls. The care at this home is exemplary. The staff, both management and carers are all very accommodating and make family members feel very welcome. As a family, we couldn't ask for a better place for our mum to live. Nothing is too much trouble and mum's needs are well catered for on all levels. I would highly recommend The Grove.
