Finding a care home for someone you love can be emotional and daunting. Things change quickly and it can be difficult to know what the right solution is. Hanning Homes has recently bought The Old Vicarage in Moulsford and they aim to make this process much easier.

The Old Vicarage has a long history of providing exceptional residential and dementia care. Many of the wonderful team have been part of life at The Old Vicarage for over 15 years - the compassion, dedication, and expertise shown by every member of the team in caring for the residents is deeply moving and truly humbling.

It is this amazing foundation that they are building on, by investing in a number of important areas. In addition to a full redecoration of the home, they are adding to all aspects of life at The Old Vicarage

They have a fantastic new chef and specialist nutritionist providing nourishing and delicious food and an incredible new activities leader who brings energy and joy to each day. Residents are thrilled about the brilliant new trikes for outings around the garden or to nearby spots such as The Beetle & Wedge restaurant on the river. They also now have a very smart new wheelchair accessible minibus for local excursions and trips further afield.

At The Old Vicarage they have increased the ratio of carers to residents so that everyone receives more time, attention, and truly personalised support. They have welcomed a personal exercise specialist to help residents stay active and maintain their wellbeing, expanded their activity resources to create more meaningful and enjoyable experiences, and introduced a dedicated dementia coordinator to provide compassionate, specialised, and individualised support for those living with dementia, ensuring they feel understood, valued, and safe.

The exciting renovation of The Old Vicarage will be finished very soon! Please come and have a look around and meet the wonderful team.

Our father received excellent care at The Old Vicarage. The nursing care was excellent and it enabled him to end his days there rather than have to go into hospital.
The nursing staff, management and many of the other staff members were kind and caring and treated our father with respect. They also
provided great emotional support to us (his daughters) especially in the last few days of his life.

Everyone was welcoming, friendly and caring. Dad was encouraged to take part in all the activities and a member of staff would always come to his room and remind him and take him along. Dad enjoyed the Church service every week in the Chapel. One of the staff offered to take dad to the cricket ground
next door to watch a match. At the weekend college students came and engaged in conversation with any resident who was alone. The student I met was very polite and interested. Occasionally the agency night staff were a little rushed but other than this the care and attention was excellent.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.387) out of 10 for The Old Vicarage Residential and Dementia Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.790 for The Old Vicarage Residential and Dementia Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (96 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.79
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.597 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old Vicarage Residential and Dementia Care Home is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 59 registered maximum number of service users is 11.8. 10 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.8 = 0.847
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
