Staying at Blair House has been an experience. Wonderful place to be. The staff are great, kind and dedicated to their job. Rooms are a good size, with an en-suite bathroom in some of them. Also, there are shower rooms and a bathroom with an electric shower chair for people who can't walk very well.
The meals are all fresh. Such a great place for care or respite.

My old friend's family live abroad, his companion had died and he was living alone with 'care'. When he had a minor fire, his evening carer found Blair House who took him in at once. His improvement has been truly marvellous in just three months. He accepts loss of 'freedom', is now clean and well-dressed,
his beard trimmed, he no longer drinks alcohol and has put on weight. Most of all he responds to the care and laughter of the staff.

Finding the staff so pleasant and the kindness shown to my wife and myself, I feel very happy for her to stay in the home.
This is not only my thinking, it is also that of the family (daughter, son and grandchildren).

The home has become a lot cleaner in the last three months from when my mum was being looked after. Things are better. This is my last review of the home as my mum passed away at the end of May. Still, need work done on the home but the staff and management are better. The management still needs more
support and money spent on the home.

My partner came to Blair House from Northampton. I cannot praise the manager and staff enough. Their care and kindness was fabulous. It was like home from home. Always offered tea/coffee/lunch etc - nothing was too much trouble. I am only sorry my partner had to leave due to his aggressive behaviour
but I shall always be grateful for the kind care and attention given. It is a very happy place!
Reply from Carole Brown, Manager at Blair House

Thank you Shirley, it was very sad that your partner had to move on, I hope he continues to get the support he needs.

My mother has settled in very well here at Blair House.
She has lived there just over 14 months now and is always clean when we visit (which was always a struggle). She is also happier and up most days sitting in the lounge (before she would stay in bed for days).
The staff are very helpful and the
care home is always spotless.
Security is spot on, more so than another care home we visited.
Very happy with the care provided.

Found staff very welcoming. They are good with residents, always offer refreshments on arrival, and if they are there for a while, will offer more refreshments.

They leave you to visit in peace, but they are at hand if you need them.

The staff are all wonderful, helpful, compassionate and understanding. They give care and support to both residents and families in equal measure. There are lots of cuddles which makes the relationship between carers and the residents more like close family. I can discuss anything with the staff who
either advise or just listen and sympathise.

We arrived at Blair House today at 2.00pm to visit my sister. As always we were greeted by the staff and other residents in a very friendly and hospitable way. Blair House is always very welcoming and the staff encourage friends and family to get involved. My sister has settled in to Blair House very
well and is always happy and relaxed on our arrival.

My parents moved to Blair House in 2007, both suffering with dementia. They were there together until my father passed away in 2014.

The care provided then was exceptional. My mother and I were supported by the manager and staff. My father, who died in hospital, was visited by his personal carers

who, with permission, saw to his personal care one last time. I know this only because the Ward Sister told me.

My mother can be difficult, but nothing seems to phase the manager or staff. They chivvy her along, encouraging her to eat, drink and join in activities. She likes to sing so enjoys the visits of the entertainer.

We are told everything concerning her health and well being and involved in her care plan.

Mum rarely recognises us despite frequent visits and often sends us away, but I know that while she is in Blair House she is safe, well cared for and loved. That gives us peace of mind in a difficult situation. I can only commend and recommend the manager and staff and all they do.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.625)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.625) out of 10 for Blair House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.925 for Blair House is calculated as follows: ( (74 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 80 Ratings = 4.925
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Blair House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 29 registered maximum number of service users is 5.8, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Manager Joined: 2019

I have worked at Blair since 2019. I started off as a student on placement. I then moved on to full-time shifts as a carer, days and nights. I gradually got more confident in what I was doing and, over time, became a senior. I enjoy this role a lot, and it has helped me gain confidence. I then recently, in the last two years were a deputy manager and now manager of Blair House. I am officially registered as well from April 2025.

I love my job! It's nice that I know the residents as well as I have worked the floor for many years. I am able to understand how hard the staff work and the difficult days they sometimes have. My team motivates me, we really are a family here at Blair, and it is a lovely home to work in.
