My 97 year old Gran wanted to move into a care home in Eastbourne and chose Hartfield House as the place where she felt she would be most happy and secure. What a fantastic decision she made!
Hartfield House is a wonderfully warm, welcoming and friendly home. It has the feel of a big happy family house.
All the staff are great and always go above and beyond to make their residents feel comfortable and at home. There is really great interaction between staff and residents and care & support for the residents is excellent and always at the right level for each individual. My Gran settled in and adjusted to her new home within a couple of days and has already made good friends. She has been engaging and interacting with other residents and is already so much brighter and happier in her demeanour. We are over the moon with how quickly she has settled and how well she is looking. This is a testament to all the staff, management and other residents in Hartfield House. A big thank you to all

My wife and I have had a connection to Hartfield house for several years ( various family members have stayed with you for different periods of time ) We continue to feel assured all is well , and our older family members have been very well looked after One small point, the telephone connection to
the rear back rooms appears to have deteriorated. ( Our mother is sadly not able to use the basic mobile phone we provided to her )
Reply from Kandy Wright, Home Manager at Hartfield HouseThank you for your kind review and for your continued trust in Hartfield House over the years. We are very pleased to hear that you and your family have felt reassured and that your older family members have been well cared for during their time with us. Your feedback means a great deal to our team.

Thank you also for bringing the telephone connection in the rear rooms to our attention. We understand how important reliable communication is, particularly for residents who are unable to use mobile phones. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and can confirm that the issue has been raised with our directors to be investigated and resolved.

We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

The overall experience of my friend staying at Hartfield House is that of patience, care and kindness; nothing is too much trouble for all the staff. When things get difficult, I feel my friend is safe in her later years with such lovely people who take care of her, and the trust they give my friend
and me is wonderful. I cannot thank them enough.

During the last four months, my brother has been residing at Hartfield House Care Home. My brother is very comfortable and happy in his new home. The staff are very kind, helpful and always ready to help. He is happy with his large bedroom, overlooking the pretty garden, which we can enjoy during summer.
My
brother has become part of the family, and everyone is friendly and encouraging of joining games and exercising. The home has two cooks, and the food is very good, with a lovely birthday cake for all the residents. I visit my brother every afternoon, joining everyone for a cup of tea and a slice of cake at 3 pm.
Reply from Kandy Wright, Home Manager at Hartfield HouseThank you so much for your wonderful review. We're delighted to hear that your brother is happy and comfortable at Hartfield House, and that you both enjoy the warm, friendly atmosphere.

We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and for being such an active part of our community.

Mum moved in 15th may 2024 with Dementia, the first year she was given 3 baths only, the staff said they would/could not make her bath. Mum was left in her room unattended and not helped with day to day tasks.
After 1st year, I when visiting would wash mum and take washing home as the home would not
return mums labelled cloths. In the last 6 months mum was in the home she had a number off falls and hospital visits, the home made no effort to address any questions asked. In October 2025 mum was admitted in to hospital and is still there today as home has refused to have her back saying 'We cannot meet your Mums needs' The Hastings hospital has put a SAFEGARDING order in place for the home.
Invoicing from home has always had to be corrected.
Reply from Kandy Wright, Home Manager at Hartfield HouseDear Lynda,

We are very sorry to read your comments and to hear that you've been unhappy with aspects of your mother's care. It was such a shame to see you felt that things had changed so much since the last review you provided in January 2025, which was so positive. We fully understand how upsetting this situation must be for you and your family.

Please be assured that the wellbeing and dignity of all our residents are always our top priorities. Our team follows detailed, person-centred care plans that are regularly reviewed to ensure that each resident's changing needs are appropriately met.

While we cannot discuss individual details publicly, we can confirm that all care decisions - including those relating to your mother's needs and safety - were made carefully, in line with professional guidance and with her best interests at heart. We also ensured that you were kept informed of any changes and updates regarding your Mother's changes of care needs.

We must have visited every care home in Eastbourne to choose one for our mum. Of the homes within her price bracket Hartfield really stood out. It is a beautiful home immaculately cared for and the staff are lovely. Residents all seem happy and Mum loves it there. She has been a resident since May.
A few glitches of course that will always happen but the management and staff are open to feedback and suggestions and that gives me confidence going forward. Thanks to all at Hartfield House who care for our Mum.

I would highly recommend Hartfield House. When I visit my friend here, I always feel welcomed by the staff who are very friendly and approachable. Nothing is too much trouble. Many times on my visits I have observed the Care Home Manager, taking time to chat and have fun with the residents. This seems
to be a very organised and well-run home with a highly motivated team.

I am the resident Hairdresser at Hartfield House and have been for years.
This home is so friendly and I get on well with the Manager, staff and residents, many would class me as a friend as I see most of the residents on a weekly/fortnightly basis.
Really enjoy coming here and they make yummy cakes
when I have one on my hairdressing afternoons!

I have to say that Hartfield House is such a lovely home, the staff are really helpful and friendly, they even offer tea and coffee when we arrive, the manager had always gone the extra mile to assist me with any question I may have had, we always felt that nothing was a bother and she always had time
to speak to us.
My friend who was an elderly lady, when she was there, she was so happy and contented, it was nice to visit her to see her so settled and looking so well
I would always recommend Hartfield House as in my eyes they are unique, in every way, which makes them stand out compared to other homes.
Thank you to the manager and the team for your compassion and kindness.

My 92-year-old mum spent from May to October in Hartfield House and recently had to leave as her medical condition worsened, such that she needed more nursing care. The home is well run by the manager, who provides strong leadership and was excellent in her communications with us.
It felt very much
like a partnership, and we worked together to deal with a number of health issues that occurred for my mother. The proof of this was that due to Hartfield's more effective management, my mother recovered from a long-term bout of constantly throwing up, which had occurred in her previous care home, which they had claimed was due to her underlying condition and we have a hunch was down to them feeding her things she had a reaction to and leaving her in a room which was too hot. Her condition stabilised rapidly in Hartfield.
The room she was in was large and light and felt very homely. When it came to her leaving, the manager even recommended, as it turned out, a very good new home for my mum to go to.

Although my review date selected is Dec 2021, these comments apply to all my visits and exchanges with the wonderful, caring Heartfelt (deliberate misspell) house...
My mum is well into her 90s and I feel will see a 100 in with no problem due to the attention, care and home from home environment that
she experiences on a daily basis.
The staff are always welcoming and do the right things with considered thought. Even as relatives we receive kindness and most importantly time, when they must have 1001 things to do.
Also, a mention must go to the support staff, whether, doing the finances or administration, the drivers, the chefs. You all contribute to an amazing experience for your residents.
So thank you, you have my biggest heartfelt gratitude for everything you do and for all the personal care you give my mum.

Thank you

Good overall standard of care and food. The staff are generally very helpful, particularly senior members, when I contact the home but I do have a slight concern that the level of staffing may sometimes lead to issues of rushing or overlooking things. Now that Covid restrictions have been lifted I hope
there will be opportunity to get some residents into the garden, or away from the home for short periods to see the world beyond usual four walls other than when relatives arrive to take them out.

The best review I can give of Hartfield House is my father consistently saying to me how happy he is living there. The staff are caring, attentive, and on top of things. I am always warmly welcomed when I visit, and I can see staff know residents well and treat each one according to their needs and
preferences. The house is always clean and they offer a good choice of food and drinks. There are also regular activities as well as other more seasonal ones. As daughter of a resident, I am very pleased with the communication with both staff and management, and I feel reassured that I will be kept up to date with anything that may arise. I would like to especially commend all the staff for their excellent work during the Covid pandemic, keeping residents not only well and safe but also, at least my father, in good spirits through a challenging time. I would definitely recommend Hartfield House to anyone with similar needs.

My parents-in-law are both residents in this care home and they are very well treated by all members of staff including the management team who are very hands-on.
When I visit I am always welcomed and treated courteously, and treated to tea and coffee, and if I am lucky I get cake as well.
If I have
cause to telephone, the staff are always helpful and try to be obliging. Overall I have found this to be a welcome and comfortable home for my relatives.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.078)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.078) out of 10 for Hartfield House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.378 for Hartfield House is calculated as follows: ( (79 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.378
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hartfield House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
