I didn't want to go into a care home when I first came last April but soon settled in. My room at Shandon House is not that big but very comfortable with a nice view over the lovely back garden. All the staff are very nice I am looked after well. The food is good, cooked by a very good chef, Adam.

A well organised home from initial visit in hospital for my mother to organise doctors, chiropodist nurses etc. They have been a pleasure to work with for mum's care. Should anything adverse happen to my mother again I would have no hesitation in returning her to this house.

My mother has received excellent care living at Shandon House. It was hard for her to realise she was not able to continue independent living but she has settled very well and is looking so much healthier under their care. The staff support her whilst maintaining her dignity and quality of life. Patient
care and consideration is so apparent. The manager always responds promptly to any queries. The home has a homely, friendly atmosphere and is maintained very well. I cannot speak more highly of this family run home.

Initially, I found my early months at Shandon different to what I'd expected as I found it extremely difficult to accept and settle into this stage in life. I missed my house, my life, my independence and did not care for this way of life. Grateful as I am for it, I still find my lack of mobility hard.
I will never get used to feeling just as I did whilst working and so so much younger!!

I could not recommend this care home enough! The staff are so helpful, happy and friendly! The management team helped my dad go back to returning to independent living, even when we thought that this might have been it for him. Which he is so grateful for! They put his care needs first, were happy to
do anything to help him and support us as a family during a really tough time. Our children were always welcome. What a wonderful, caring and loving home. I could not recommend anywhere better!

Whilst I have not been to see my sister for over a year due to Covid restrictions, I am in constant contact with her. I have been very impressed with the way staff and management have cared for all the residents, preventing a dreadful virus from getting into the house. I cannot thank them enough. Whilst
I have not been to see my sister for some while, I have visited her very regularly during the years she has been a resident and have a good knowledge of the house and the staff. I, therefore, feel I am quite able to give an assessment and "excellent" fits in all areas.

The wonderful caring staff are the key reason as to why I would recommend Shandon House to anyone looking for a care H=home for their relative. My mum feels safe and as content as she can be (she suffers from Alzheimer's), and this gives me such peace of mind to know that she is cared for in a small
'family' environment. My sister and I have always been made welcome when we visited at any time before Covid struck, and there has not been a single case of Covid 19 at the home, due to the restrictions and dedication of all the staff.

Visiting my friend over a period of 3 years I have constantly been amazed at the homely atmosphere; welcoming staff; care towards patients; lack of what I have noticed at other homes namely either hospital or urine or body odours. Supervision of both staff and service users is unobtrusive but thorough
and the diet control is well done. Security is very discreet but operates well.

I'm only here for 3 weeks respite and have found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The food is of good quality. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Not rushed into bed and can alight in the mornings in my own time.
TV is in my room which is very good. My room was not en-suite, that was the only
down-side of my stay. Security - 1 person at night. Value for money - not applicable to me.

I arrived at Shandon House in June 2017. It felt like I imagine Alice falling down the rabbit hole - it took me about a month to settle in. Now, although like all the residents I would rather be in my own home, this home has been very welcoming. The staff are kind, professional and very caring. There
is a lot of laughter! I have a very pleasant room and am happy to be here for however much longer.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.981)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.981) out of 10 for Shandon House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.381 for Shandon House is calculated as follows: ( (41 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.381
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shandon House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I started my career in care at Shandon when I was 16, back in 2000, working as a Care Assistant before becoming a Senior. I’ve grown up in these homes; they’ve been a huge part of my life from the very beginning, and they’ve always felt like home from home. In 2008, I moved into management at Rodina House, and a few years later returned to Shandon, where I managed from 2011 until 2024. One of the things I’m most proud of is leading the team through the COVID pandemic and keeping the home COVID-free for two years, protecting both residents and staff during such a difficult time.

I’ve always been passionate about getting the best out of people, especially those living with dementia. I love learning about people’s personal histories, understanding who they are, and helping staff make the kind of meaningful connections that bring real quality to someone’s day. I’ve always enjoyed improving the home environment and seeing staff grow in confidence and character.

As Lindsey Bree’s daughter, the values behind the company have always been part of who I am. Although I’ve stepped back from managing the services directly, I still play an active role as Director, supporting the management team day to day and being involved in the wider business decisions that shape our services.

As a Director and Co-owner of CEL Care Services, I bring over 20 years of dedicated experience to our family-run organisation. Working alongside my mother and sister to grow the company across three sites, my journey has allowed me to experience every facet of the industry—from maintenance to management.

For me, care is more than a profession; it is a lifestyle rooted in my upbringing. I operate under a simple but unwavering standard: "I would never expect a resident to stay somewhere that I wouldn't live myself." This commitment to quality ensures that every individual at CEL Care is treated with the same dignity and compassion as a member of my own family.

Care has been the heartbeat of my life since I started working in the industry at just 14 years old. After spending 11 formative years at Havelock House while putting myself through university, I achieved my goal of becoming a Registered Manager at Shandon House in 1999.

In 2001, my husband and I realised our dream of creating a family-run business where quality and compassion come first. Even after his passing in 2007 - the same year we welcomed Rodina House into our family - I have dedicated my life to carrying forward our shared mission.

Today, I am incredibly proud of the services we provide and the wonderful community we have built - from our dedicated staff and residents to the families and healthcare professionals who have shared this journey with us. As we look toward the future, I am excited to announce the opening of our independent living service this coming year and to see the continued growth of CEL.

Job Title: Registered Manager / Care Consultant

Rodina House has always held a special place in my heart, as it’s where my career in care first began at 17. I started out as a kitchen assistant and, over time, worked my way up to Registered Manager. After six years of growth within the home and beyond, returning has felt like coming full circle.

My focus has been on strengthening quality, building a positive team culture, and ensuring truly person-centred care. It’s been really rewarding to work with Lindsey again — we share the same passion and values for delivering high-quality, compassionate care.

Alongside my role here, I also work independently as a Care Consultant, supporting other providers to achieve the same standards of quality and kindness that inspired me from the very start.

In 2016, I made the decision to leave the British Army after 15 years of service, to spend more time at home with my family, as an opportunity for me to join the family business became available.

I bring with me a plethora of skills and experience from working in a demanding and high-pressure industry. I have since continued to push my personal development, gaining additional qualifications more suited to a care sector role.

It gives me a great sense of pride to be able to provide clients with a safe, well-maintained environment in which to relax and enjoy, helping to improve their quality of life. Direct interaction with residents provides immense satisfaction for me.

In my time away from work, I try to spend as much time as possible with my family, exploring and being outdoors and trying new hobbies. My main passion is hiking and climbing.

My name is Josephine, and I've worked in CEL Care services for 10 years. I love my job so much. We support older people with their daily lives, including dementia care.

CEL Care Services is one of the best Residential Care Services in Eastbourne, providing compassionate and person-centred care that helps our residents feel safe, respected and truly at home. CEL Care Services also takes care of the welfare of its staff, who, in return, feel supported to continue to look after the residents.

Job Title: Assistant Manager Joined: 2014

I joined the care team at Rodina House in 2014 at the age of 18; it was my first employment within the Care Sector. It didn’t take me long to realise just how special this industry was.

At the age of 26, I became a Senior carer at Shandon House. Shortly after taking this position, I submitted my application to become the assistant manager. I am currently in the process of applying for the role of registered manager. This will be a joint position whilst completing my NVQ level 5.

I thrive on making a positive impact on all residents’ lives and empowering my team to do the same. Meeting new people every day and being able to learn about their unique stories and interests is important to me. Finding ways to enhance their lives, whether that’s sharing memories or simply sitting down and listening, is a bonus to my role. I believe that every interaction makes a real difference.
I want to make a difference in all our resident’s lives, including their families, in decision-making to enhance their quality of life and enjoyment.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my three children, going on adventures and watching them grow. I find inspiration in their energy.
