Coming here after hospital treatment, I have experienced only kindness and care over and beyond the basic treatment from all staff, carers and helpers and the boss.

My mother continues to have a full and rewarding life at Avon House. She has made good friends and is very fond of the staff. The manager and deputy do a good job keeping us up to date and involving us in any decisions. The local GP also provides great support to the home. Each time I visit I come away thankful that mum is happy and is in such good hands.

My mother-in-law has been a resident of Avon House for 14 months. The care she has received has been good, and the staff kind and caring though there has been quite a change in staff in the 14 months with only one carer having been there for all that time. The food is good and enjoyed. The decor is shabby and lighting could be improved, though I understand these issues are being addressed.

My relative has lived at Avon House for just over a year. This has been a year of change of ownership and management which has also meant a significant change in caring staff. There was particular emphasis to ensure that disruption to the residents was as little as possible which was successful. Some of the areas required redecorating and upgrading, this is now well in hand.

The residents are well cared for with respect for their preferences and their individuality. I have no problem in recommending this home as a small and caring establishment.

I was impressed by the friendliness of the staff. The atmosphere was easy going but I felt that everything was in control, including a fire alarm exercise. If this nursing home is running in X years, I would gladly go for more respite if I needed pampering again!

Impressive building set in large garden. Entrance hall welcoming. Greeted with pleasure, decoration of building is clean and fresh. Food very good and served on time. Plenty of staff in ratio to patients. Organised afternoons, organised for exercise, scrabble with students from local college, model making. Residents are encouraged to help staff lay-up tables. Flower arranging organised- the flowers are put on show.

In all, Avon House is a well run, friendly home. Thoroughly recommended.

Having settled mum in she seems to be improving and happy. The manager aims to integrate her more in with the other residents so that she mixes.

The management are always accessible and are confident in answering our many questions.

We feel happy to drop in at any time as a family and we can treat it as a 2nd home! The food is improving and she is willing to try anything they give her.

Owners and manager are superb creating a real family feel in this small home. My Mum had already chosen Avon House which was where she wanted to be when her dementia got so bad. She could no longer cope in her own home, so it was an easy choice for me. I feel like her family has just been extended to include those who have the knowledge and ability to look after her in a kind and caring manner as I would like to be able to do myself 24/7.

Overall Experience

Late last year we had the difficult task of bringing my father, an 'Alzheimer's' sufferer, from his house in Cheshire to a home, nearer to us, in West Sussex.

We visited several homes in the area.

We chose 'Avon House' based on one, simple, criterion: care. The management and staff at Avon House care for the residents, their welfare is of paramount importance. This being the case, everything else: accommodation, hygiene, quality of food etc. falls quite naturally into place.

Putting a parent into a home can never be a pleasant experience - Avon House makes it as positive an experience as it could possibly be, for all concerned.

Avon House is a warm, friendly and caring home. Every resident is treated as an individual, and we as a family are always made very welcome. The atmosphere is like a family home, and definitely not like an institution. The staff, all of them, are kind and gentle, and we would like to thank them for the care they give to our Mum.

Avon House is a small friendly home in a lovely village. My mother has a big room looking out onto the garden which she loves. The food is excellent and there is a range of activities every week. My mother has Alzheimers but is very active. She is encouraged to do as much for herself as she can and she enjoys helping out by laying the tables and folding the laundry. The staff are very caring and patient and I would highly recommend the home to others.
