I live in the United States and travel back to the UK every two months to visit my mother, who has been a resident at Barlavington Manor since 2024. Choosing a care home from across the Atlantic was not a decision I took lightly, and the team here have given me complete peace of mind.
Every visit, the home feels warm, calm, and genuinely well run. The grounds are beautifully maintained, cleanliness is consistently excellent, and the standard of care has always been high.

For any family looking for a care home, I would recommend Barlavington Manor without reservation.

Barlavington's many outstanding qualities derive from a highly engaged and passionate leadership team. Together with their core (and crucially very stable) team of energetic, committed and good humoured colleagues they are always looking to raise standards even further. Feedback is frequently sought from the residents themselves and from the family members (such as me) who visit regularly. Achieving the right balance of communication between all interested parties is kept under regular review and through interative steps continues to improve.

I have been visiting Barlavington weekly for over 2 years and throughout that time it has always shown all the characteristics of being a 'happy ship', for residents and for all those working so hard and professionally to keep it so.

Mum & Dad have been at Barlavington for a couple of months now & we are really impressed with the home itself & the wonderful staff. Nothing is too much trouble & the staff are extremely caring & considerate & always on hand to provide assistance.
Mum & Dad have settled in very quickly & Mum in particular is feeling so much better because of the level of care she is receiving, everything is done for her so there are no worries & she can enjoy herself.
There is a programme of activities which provide the opportunity to socialise with other residents as well as occasional visits to nearby amenities, again all organised & stress free for Mum & Dad.

I would highly recommend this care home.

Although my aunt sadly wasn't at Barlavington for very long the standard of care and the compassion from the staff was excellent, and very welcome in some very unhappy times for our family as we dealt with the end of her life from Alzheimers. Her room was bright, clean and well furnished and opened onto the garden which was lovely as she was a keen gardener in her earlier life. Barlavington staff showed good communication and compassion in abundance and she was made to feel incredibly welcome, with little touches of personalized care which were most appreciated. All our questions were answered promptly and we were made to feel that nothing was too much trouble. A real gem of a care home.

My Aunt has been a Resident at Barlavington for over a year now. From entering as a frightened 93 year old, my Aunt, who is affected by Dementia has grown in confidence and her health has flourished. Thelma isn't the easiest of people to get to know, but the engagement by all of the staff there have enabled her to become more communactive and engaging. The various communal activities that take place regularly, has something for everyone. Thelma isn't in the best of health, but her medical issues are dealt with prompyly and I am always informed of any changes staight away. The whole management Team are extremely approachable and availble to discuss any topic that relates to the wellbeing and continuing care of all of those residing there. The Home is always spotlessly clean and has a welcoming atmosphere whenever i visit. It is set in the peaceful Sussex countryside and the grounds, which are open for residents, and vistors to explore, especialy well cared for and beautiful in the summer

What a fantastic experience dealing with Barlavington from initial enquiry to present day. Every member of staff goes above and beyond to welcome you and nothing is too much trouble. My mother has totally embraced the move and can't praise the staff highly enough. I have seen such a change in her and her smile has returned as everything is thought of and done for her making such a difference to her.

Activities are varied and cater for everyone. Food is excellent and mum says it's like being on holiday. I would recommend Barlavington to anyone having viewed others locally this truly is outstanding and in a wonderful location, so glad we found it.

Barlavington Manor Care Home is beautifully maintained - elegant, comfortable, welcoming, and set in the peaceful Sussex countryside. But it is the team who truly make Barlavington Manor outstanding.
When our mother, a resident, recently became ill quite suddenly, it was especially stressful as neither my sister nor I live nearby. Throughout this difficult period, the Barlavington team delivered excellent care, arranged for medical specialists as needed, and kept us closely informed. They also reassured us that our frequent calls and emails were always welcome, which brought us great comfort.

On our recent visit, we were delighted to find our mother nearly fully recovered and in wonderful spirits. We remain deeply grateful for the team's professionalism, compassion, and unwavering commitment to our mother's wellbeing.

As a Care Home, I cannot recommend Barlavington Manor highly enough!
The emphasis has to be on both 'care' and 'home,' where both entities are taken on with pride.
We managed to secure Dad a room the week before Christmas, which enabled him to be fully immersed in the spirit of the season. He was welcomed at the door on his first day of arrival, by name, and walked through to his room and settled in, with all Carers who passed him also welcoming him.
He was taken into the dining room, where they had paired him with another gentleman, and we set up his room, with the help of the maintenance guys carrying in furniture for us.
We actually felt redundant, because everything had been thought of and prepared, enabling us to fully relax and feel confident that Dad would be well looked after.
Dad's words last week were, 'I don't know why I haven't moved in sooner.'

Thank you for giving back my Dad to me.

The home my mother had been in for just over a year suddenly announced they were closing for redevelopment. After having found her a home and getting her settled this announcement was a great worry. From the initial contact with Barlavington they couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The home environment is welcoming and immaculately decorated and furnished. It really doesn't feel like a care home, more like a country house hotel. The move went smoothly, with everyone helping her settle in and adding personal touches like making sure her pictures were hung.
We have found all the staff very friendly, and nothing is too much effort. She loves her new room along with the views of the south Downs plus the wildlife in the gardens. She enjoys the daily activities as well as the social trips out.

Moving a parent into a care home isn't easy but the support from the whole team has been a relief for us knowing that she is safe, enjoying nice meals and so well looked after.

My mother went to Barlavington Manor after being unwell. Everyone was helpful, kind and welcoming from the outset. My mother flourished as soon as she arrived and is now relaxed, comfortable and happy and I have peace of mind, confident she is safe and well cared for. Clean, tidy, well organised, beautifully decorated with warm welcoming staff, gives Barlavington Manor a relaxed, comfortable feel. The management and staff are professional, easy to communicate with, flexible and friendly. The atmosphere upbeat and happy, staff sympathetic and caring and everyone seems to genuinely care about the residents. The activities and daily news sheets seem eminently appropriate to the residents, give pleasure and evoke interesting and stimulating memories and discussions. Barlavington Manor stands out from all the care homes I have experienced. It really does feel unique. I'm delighted to have found it and hugely grateful to everyone there for making such a positive difference to our lives.

We are extremely happy with the compassionate care that our Mother receives at Barlavington Manor. At a time when we were no longer able meet her care needs it was a huge relief to find such a relaxed and comfortable home with sympathetic and caring staff .
Her days are filled with company, activities and entertainment in a superb environment. Visiting her is a pleasure, she is happy and is encouraged to take part in activities she once loved .

We have peace of mind knowing she is safe , well looked after and content

Barlavington Manor has been an excellent care home for both my parents of which one is in the residential side and the other is in the dementia unit.
All the staff have gone out of their way to be helpful and their level of care is commendable.

The cleaning staff are extremely thorough and the gardens are well maintained which gives more of an air of a country hotel rather that a residential care home!

Barlavington is a wonderful home, my father has been really happy and settled quickly here. He recently celebrated his 100th birthday, and the staff were fantastic. The home is located in very pretty surroundings and grounds. It feels like every bedroom has a wonderful view. The property has lots of character, but at the same time all the facilities are modern and the food all freshly cooked by the chefs. The team even baked my father a cake specially on his birthday. There is lots of parking, easy access, and very relaxed visitation rules, so you really feel like you can come and go as you please, and are always made to feel welcome, being greeted by smiles.

Barlavington Manor has always been a special place for my father and our family. Our mother was in the care home a few years back, so we have had a long standing relationship with them. When the time came for us to admit my father, we did not consider anywhere else. It was lovely that there were so many familiar faces for him, and he was welcomed with open arms. We also love the fact that they are very flexible with visits, and you never feel like you are overstaying your welcome. It is so nice to be able to pop in for a cup of tea, or take him out for the day. In this day and age, it should not be taken for granted to be treated like an individual.

We get to see a fair few care homes due to our friends reaching that stage in their lives, but I have to say that Barlavington Manor Residential & Dementia Care Home & Assisted Living Village very much stands out. We have always been impressed by the warm welcome, the smiles, and the staffing team as a whole. The grounds are sublime, and whenever we see meals being served, they always look fresh and delicious. It's very nice to see that there is very much an open door policy when it comes to visits for residents from their family and friends. We have even seen some pets visiting.
