Our mum spent the last year at Barlavington Manor. All the management and staff showed her great kindness, patience and care. The staff have shown 100% dedication to all their residents especially in these difficult times. As well as an idyllic setting overlooking the downs, the overall care at Barlavington
Manor is second to none.

The Barlavington team have been wonderful in looking after my father since he moved in about 15 months ago.
He is an assisted-living resident which has worked very well, giving him the independence of his own place with the support and care of the home. Recently he was seriously ill. The team moved
him into the home and looked after him brilliantly. He is now well on the road to recovery.
Overall we have been very pleased. The staff are very kind and helpful, taking great care of their residents. They have done especially well in the difficult times of the past 10 months.

I am very pleased with this institution, which I consider to be one of (if not *the*) best in this country. The staff are consistently hard-working while remaining pleasant, compassionate, and helpful. The facility is also in impeccable condition.

When my father had a stroke we as a family had to make choices about what was best for Dad, his care plan and where he would be most comfortable. The team at Barlavington Manor made our decision easy. Their friendly staff, wonderful facilities coupled with the peace of mind knowing every detail of my
father's requirements were considered. I highly recommend this care home.

My wife has dementia and is very well provided for at Barlavington. I visit her all day every day. She is well-fed and I eat with her most visits. We are very well supported by the staff and happy with everything and we can come and go as we please.

Thank you so much Barlavington Manor for everything you do for my grandmother, you really do go above and beyond. The management team and staff could not be nicer, my family and I really do feel she is in safe and caring hands. Everyone at the Manor from the gardeners to the chefs work incredibly hard
to maintain what is pretty much a five-star hotel with care. Barlavington Manor is definitely not your average care home, as soon as you step inside it is immediately clear you have stepped into somewhere special.

Transitioning a family member into elderly care is often difficult. However, Barlavington Manor has brought reassurance to the family and comfort to our aunt. The facilities are beautiful, the staff offer a nurturing disposition, and the degree of dignity provided is heartening. The activities offered
provide communal spirit, which is especially important during these difficult months. Barlavington Manor is a remarkable care facility and experience for all involved.

I have visited many care homes and Barlavington Manor really impressed me the most. The staff are very caring and attentive and offer a wide range of activities and services to support residents. In the short time that my mother has lived there, she has been well looked after and has really come out
of her shell. It has been great for her to be able to get involved with her passion of gardening. Rooms are clean and fresh, food appetising, and relatives are welcomed and made to feel part of the community that has been created there.

The staff and the management are just so kind and go the extra mile. We have never felt that we were compromising by placing my aunt here and the most important thing is that she doesn't feel that way either. I can't tell you how much of a relief it is to know that she's in such good hands.

The main and pervasive characteristic of living at Barlavington Manor is belonging to a happy and helpful community. This is readily maintained by the positive attitude of the staff who, without exception, remain concerned, consistent and patient under all circumstances. The lovely rural location with
delightful garden views of the South Downs contribute to the relaxing features of the home. Every effort is made to enable residents to regard the Manor as their new home by attending to their individual needs and preferences whether it be diet, accommodation and/or social activities and at the same time keeping distractions to a minimum.

Kitchen staff aware of my diet needs and are very thoughtful. Also, the laundry staff seems efficient with my requirements. Staff was thoughtful about my needs after return from the hospital. Completely innocent of the virus being fully tested in the hospital and kept safe in my room. Still managed
to have a laugh.

My sister has now been in the care of Barlavington for two years. For the past year in the main house. I have nothing but praise for the staff and the care they give. The rooms are all immaculately clean, the atmosphere cheerful and the staff always helpful and prepared to listen to concerns and iron
out any problems. There is also a great range of activities, some of which I know my sister enjoys. It is a huge relief to all our family to know that she is safe and so well looked after. Thank you.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.944 for Barlavington Manor Residential & Dementia Care Home & Assisted Living Village is calculated as follows: ( (270 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 286 Ratings = 4.944
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barlavington Manor Residential & Dementia Care Home & Assisted Living Village is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
