We couldn't be happier with how well my mum is being looked after at Barlavington Manor.
The staff are all very friendly and caring. The home is very clean, and the food is of a very high standard.
Highly recommended.

I have been extremely impressed by the way my dear friend has been looked after during this especially difficult time. All the staff have been amazing and my friend gets the best care possible. The food and activities are fantastic and I'm considering moving in myself because the landscaped gardens
are so beautiful to walk around.
Thank you so much Barlavington Manor and the whole staffing team, you really do go out of your way to make people feel cared for.

Excellent home - highly recommended.
Suggestions:
Meal portions a bit too big. Home could save money by serving smaller portions. Most old people have smaller appetites.
Sometimes lights on unnecessarily in comment areas. Conserve energy and save money.

We found Barlavington Manor following a friends recommendation and discovered an absolute gem. I could not think of one bad thing to say about it. My father is very well cared for, happy and wouldn't want to be anywhere else!

My mother spent 7 years at Barlavington Manor and passed away in August, aged 98. She made some lasting friendships and her catch-phrase was 'remember I have been very happy here'. What more could I want for my dearly-loved, elderly mother but for her to be happy in her final years? Barlavington Manor
has lived up to its good reputation in every respect: it is well-run and efficient whilst having a loving, caring and friendly atmosphere. Although visually impaired, my mother joined in activities of her choice and often sat in the dining room where she could chat to visitors passing through, discuss topics of interest with other residents and join in socially as much as she could. Her care plan was adapted as her needs changed and I was kept well informed. I felt completely confident that Barlavington would offer the very best 'end of life' care for my mother and when the time came, the staff was hugely supportive and compassionate. My mother was treated with great tenderness and dignity.

The team at Barlavington Manor understand that it's often a difficult choice for a family member to go into residential care, we have found them to be sensitive and professional towards the residents they look after, as well as helping family to adjust to the change. At Barlavington Manor we have found
a happy, friendly environment and a positive atmosphere within the home. There are lots of opportunities for the residents to socialise and there are many entertainments and activities available should they wish to join in. All my mother's needs are met with dignity and there is a high regard for making the residents comfortable, and to feel part of the community. Also, the food is really good and the home is spotlessly clean! But the most important elements for us in this very well run home are the kindness and compassion that the staff show toward my mother, and for this, the whole family are very grateful.

Lovely staff in this home and as you enter you would think it a hotel, there is no reminder of the elderly with that distinct aroma. The place is always clean and the people in care seem happy and content.

A very well run home. The staff are most considerate and attentive. They even know the names of family members.
We also know another resident, the father of a close friend of ours, who is very happy at the home.

My father has been a resident for 8 months and I feel so fortunate to have found such a delightful, caring home. The staff have been there a long time. Their contentment is evident in their interaction with residents. At Christmas, it was particularly pleasing, a panto, Christmas drinks. The manager
and deputy even came in on Christmas day which shows their dedication. Dad has improved since being there, well as much as his condition allows.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.944 for Barlavington Manor Residential & Dementia Care Home & Assisted Living Village is calculated as follows: ( (270 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 286 Ratings = 4.944
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barlavington Manor Residential & Dementia Care Home & Assisted Living Village is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
