The main and pervasive characteristic of living at Barlavington Manor is belonging to a happy and helpful community. This is readily maintained by the positive attitude of the staff who, without exception, remain concerned, consistent and patient under all circumstances. The lovely rural location with delightful garden views of the South Downs contribute to the relaxing features of the home. Every effort is made to enable residents to regard the Manor as their new home by attending to their individual needs and preferences whether it be diet, accommodation and/or social activities and at the same time keeping distractions to a minimum.

Kitchen staff aware of my diet needs and are very thoughtful. Also, the laundry staff seems efficient with my requirements. Staff was thoughtful about my needs after return from the hospital. Completely innocent of the virus being fully tested in the hospital and kept safe in my room. Still managed to have a laugh.

Barlavington Manor has very high standards in all areas. The environment is very pleasant for the residents to relax and dine in and the grounds around the house are also kept very well. I note the care to be excellent and the residents are treated as individuals with care and dignity.

My sister has now been in the care of Barlavington for two years. For the past year in the main house. I have nothing but praise for the staff and the care they give. The rooms are all immaculately clean, the atmosphere cheerful and the staff always helpful and prepared to listen to concerns and iron out any problems. There is also a great range of activities, some of which I know my sister enjoys. It is a huge relief to all our family to know that she is safe and so well looked after. Thank you.

I have been extremely impressed by the way my dear friend has been looked after during this especially difficult time. All the staff have been amazing and my friend gets the best care possible. The food and activities are fantastic and I'm considering moving in myself because the landscaped gardens are so beautiful to walk around.

Thank you so much Barlavington Manor and the whole staffing team, you really do go out of your way to make people feel cared for.

Excellent home - highly recommended.
Suggestions:
Meal portions a bit too big. Home could save money by serving smaller portions. Most old people have smaller appetites.

Sometimes lights on unnecessarily in comment areas. Conserve energy and save money.

We found Barlavington Manor following a friends recommendation and discovered an absolute gem. I could not think of one bad thing to say about it. My father is very well cared for, happy and wouldn't want to be anywhere else!

My mother spent 7 years at Barlavington Manor and passed away in August, aged 98. She made some lasting friendships and her catch-phrase was 'remember I have been very happy here'. What more could I want for my dearly-loved, elderly mother but for her to be happy in her final years? Barlavington Manor has lived up to its good reputation in every respect: it is well-run and efficient whilst having a loving, caring and friendly atmosphere. Although visually impaired, my mother joined in activities of her choice and often sat in the dining room where she could chat to visitors passing through, discuss topics of interest with other residents and join in socially as much as she could. Her care plan was adapted as her needs changed and I was kept well informed. I felt completely confident that Barlavington would offer the very best 'end of life' care for my mother and when the time came, the staff was hugely supportive and compassionate. My mother was treated with great tenderness and dignity.

Overall Experience

The team at Barlavington Manor understand that it's often a difficult choice for a family member to go into residential care, we have found them to be sensitive and professional towards the residents they look after, as well as helping family to adjust to the change. At Barlavington Manor we have found a happy, friendly environment and a positive atmosphere within the home. There are lots of opportunities for the residents to socialise and there are many entertainments and activities available should they wish to join in. All my mother's needs are met with dignity and there is a high regard for making the residents comfortable, and to feel part of the community. Also, the food is really good and the home is spotlessly clean! But the most important elements for us in this very well run home are the kindness and compassion that the staff show toward my mother, and for this, the whole family are very grateful.

Lovely staff in this home and as you enter you would think it a hotel, there is no reminder of the elderly with that distinct aroma. The place is always clean and the people in care seem happy and content.

A very well run home. The staff are most considerate and attentive. They even know the names of family members.

We also know another resident, the father of a close friend of ours, who is very happy at the home.

My father has been a resident for 8 months and I feel so fortunate to have found such a delightful, caring home. The staff have been there a long time. Their contentment is evident in their interaction with residents. At Christmas, it was particularly pleasing, a panto, Christmas drinks. The manager and deputy even came in on Christmas day which shows their dedication. Dad has improved since being there, well as much as his condition allows.
