My sister and I moved our ageing parents to Hilgay 4 years ago, in May 2022. My sister chose it from a trio of carefully-researched care homes near her own home in Sussex.

My initial impression was unfavorable but this had completely reversed within an hour of actually meeting the staff and has remained unchanged since then; I am both grateful for and admire the caring work they have done , particularly in caring for my mother as dementia slowly claimed more and more of her life and personality. ( She died earlier this month, my father having died after 6 months there ). It helps, of course, that staff turnover at the home appears to be low, which I attribute in part to its being very well run by a manager who has always been responsive and always made the effort to keep me informed although I live a fair way away and this has limited how frequently I have been able to visit.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. I will make sure that your feedback is relayed back to all the staff. It has been such a delight to care and look after your mum and dad, as it was getting to know you all as her family. Your mum was such a kind, caring lady and is missed very much.

My husband who has dementia is cared for by kind and attentive staff who provide an excellent service. He has been given different kinds of care as his needs have changed. Heidi who is the manager responds positively if there are any difficulties and my husband's needs are well catered for. We are very happy with the home.

My husband has been a resident in Hilgay since last November 2025. I am extremely happy with all the care the staff give my husband. From the first day he has been made very welcome and has settled in well. All the staff are very kind and caring .There is entertainment for the residents who like to join in . And on special days such as Christmas, Mothers Day and Easter the staff in charge of entertainment work very hard with lovely

decorations and a special tea. I am always made very welcome when I visit him.

Another fabulous Christmas full of celebrations and events at Hilgay. My mother in law is so happy there especially when there are special occasions or dates in the year. The staff go over and above their duty to make sure the days are memorable, fun and full of joy for both visitors and residents. Their care and personal touches are excellent.

Not well run, bad management, food was not good, lift kept breaking down and mother in law was left in her room because of the lift broken.
