From my first contact to my last, I was made to feel very welcome by all the staff.
Sussex Grange was the ideal choice for my mum, being a smaller, cosy home and not a purpose built clinical building.
I was kept updated on mums care on a regular basis and was informed of appointments made, so I could be there to support her.
The care mum received in the 8 months she was a resident, was compassionate and dignified, until her last moments, which were so precious.

The support I personally received will never be forgotten.

I was first here for a month, and as I was going home, I felt strange. When I got to the bungalow, I couldn't believe how I felt. I asked my son to enquire about me coming back and having a smaller room, which they did. Since then, I have been so content. I'm not leaning on family as they know I'm being looked after so well. My son looked at other places, and this is the best. I am very happy to stay here for as long as needed and I do not want to go to the hospital as the care wasn't what I receive here. When I came home, 3 staff greeted me, and this is a fond memory.

My Nan lived at Sussex Grange for 5 years, the care she received was outstanding and so person centred, from the little things from knowing what was her favourite snack, to making her feel as part of the family. My Nan always told me on visits that everyone was like family. Sadly my Nan recently passed away and the dignified and caring end of life care the team gave my Nan was fantastic and as a family we will always be thankful to them.

Mum moved into Sussex Grange in October 2023 following a week of respite earlier in the year. She had received home care from Sussex Grange since 2021 so it seemed only natural for her to move in. It is a small home and in every way, it is home to its residents, not an institution. All of the people who work there are committed to caring and kindness. My mum loved it there. She really enjoyed the food, she enjoyed that the carers took time to talk to her and listen to her stories. There were daily activities but it was down to Mum whether she joined in or not, depending on how she was feeling. She had a short stay in hospital before she died, I asked if she could come back to Sussex Grange for terminal care and the answer was "Of course, this is her home". Her end-of-life care was superb. The family were allowed access at all times of day and night to be with Mum and we were welcomed and cossetted at a difficult time. At all times Mum was treated as an individual, with dignity and respect.

Reply from Kellie Barker, Manager at Sussex Grange Residential Care Home

Thank you so much for your very kind words. I think we each have at least two of Mum's stories or quotes that we thoroughly enjoyed hearing and will not forget some real cherished memories. We were so pleased to have known Mum, and to have been able to support Mum, and you all during that difficult time, it meant a great deal to us all. Your kind words mean a lot to us, thank you.

My father has been a daycare resident for about 7 weeks, he comes home every time full of praise for the home, I did have my doubts as to how he would adjust to this, but I cannot fault how brilliant the care staff all are, they have made him feel so comfortable and are very welcoming, they have some kind of activities almost every day, which he participates in and loves, he loves the food, especially the home-baked bread which they do, also the cakes, he frequently is sent home with two slices of cake, as we have to pick him up on the tea round, Overall very satisfied and it has also taken the pressure off my mother, so she can have a free day with no worries. I would highly recommend Sussex Grange, thank you to all for making my father's stay a very enjoyable one.

Our Dad has led an active independent life until earlier this year when needs changed and he decided to move into Residential Care. Having retired to live in Selsey 35 years ago, we began our search and quickly came across Sussex Grange, offering a beautifully maintained home and gardens. Dad has been a resident for six months and the whole team provides care and support in a kind and caring way, where residents' individual needs are of paramount importance, nothing has been too much trouble. So much thought is given to celebrating events at every opportunity to enrich the resident's lives, as well as extending invitations to their families. This has proved to be so much more than a home from home and we are so very grateful.

Dad was first looked after by the excellent care home team. When he became unwell the staff recognised that Mum was struggling and were able to offer us respite care which was very much appreciated. Dad has now become a permanent resident. He is very content and we are happy knowing he is being well looked after.

Sussex Grange is a lovely care home set in beautiful gardens which the residents enjoy to the full. It has a lovely family atmosphere and the staff and managers are very kind and caring. Visitors are welcome at any time and are always offered a drink and biscuits. Mum visits Dad regularly and staff welcome Mum to Sunday dinner each week which is a highlight of her week. In addition to a weekday daily activity, a lot of thought and work goes into arranging special events from film nights to Holiday Week, from coffee mornings to a very memorable Father's Day Afternoon Tea complete with tablecloth and flowers. Sussex Grange is a home-from-home. A real gem.

Holiday Week 2024 -

What a great week! A variety of events to sort all ages and lovely to see all the generations mix. It was delightful to be invited into their home to join in and residents, relatives and staff alike seemed to enjoy themselves. Food and drink was generously provided to enhance the experience. A very relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and the care and priority given to the residents was very evident. Clearly a lot of thought and work went into organizing and delivering the event and it was appreciated by all those who attended. The fact the residents are still talking about it weeks after the event shows what great memories have been made. A great success - looking forward to the next one!

A true care home with a real family home atmosphere. Every time I visit I always reflect and think, would I be happy with my mother or father living here and the answer every time is YES. Both the residents and staff are always happy, I often am taken back by the amount of love and respect the care staff show the residents. The residents themselves always share stories of activities the staff have been doing with them, from going for walks to sitting together having a cup of tea and a chat or even pub quizzes and cinema nights in the evening. I have also witnessed resident needing to be helped for personal care reasons, this has always been done with compassion whilst keeping the resident's dignity, no embarrassment for the residents. Nothing is too much trouble. It truly is a family feel within the home and I love to visit each week.

My mother initially started receiving home care from the excellent team at Sussex Grange. She has now moved into the home and has a lovely, good size en suite room which has a small patio area. The staff are always very welcoming when we visit and take the time to get to know the residents personally. The food is of a good standard and there are plenty of activities arranged. The management team are very approachable and listens to any concerns we may have, They recently facilitated it so that my mother could watch the live stream of a family wedding which she was unable to attend and made it a special day for her.

My uncle has been a resident at the Sussex Grange for a number of years. The care home is an attractive building with well-maintained gardens within easy reach of village amenities and within a five-minute walk of the beach. In-house entertainment and various outings are arranged for the residents. My uncle occupies a spacious room overlooking the gardens, and he has often told me how well he is cared for by such friendly staff. I, too, always receive a warm welcome from all the caring staff. I would highly recommend The Sussex Grange.
