My dad was a resident for just over 2 years until his passing in December 2025. He was always treated with the utmost care and compassion. In his last 5 days of life, he was treated with dignity and love. The staff are an absolute credit and go out of their way to help with anything we needed. Can't
praise Alex Wood House enough. Please don't change.

My initial reactions were positive from the outset. I met the Admin Manager, Lance who was kind and compassionate and explained the assessment process. The Asst Manager Bernie then visited my relative at home and she was really approachable, kind and helped ease the transition. The Manager, Julie has
also been helpful.
The staff are lovely and the cleaner does a good job. The place is warm, the gardens are really pleasant and the activities are varied and frequent.
I've raised a few matters with the staff which they wouldn't have known about him ie: how he usually dresses and they are acting on those.
On a final note, all the staff have been very welcoming to us as his family when we visit which is really appreciated.

Alexwood House is a lovely home, all staff seem very friendly and obliging, the home is always lovely and clean, although it could do with redecorating in places. In Joseph's room, the ceiling needs to be sorted as it looks as though there has been a leak! And part of the ceiling is brown.
Reply from Abi Ajiboye, Home Manager at Alex Wood HouseThank you for your honest review about our home. Our refurbishment programme is well under way and we are delighted to hear how clean you find our home and how friendly our team are too!

My husband and I spent two weeks in respite care at Alex Wood House . We were only booked for one week but my husband had a foot infection and we had to go to the hospital three times in the first week which was stressful. We asked if we could stay for another week and fortunately we were able to do
so.
The staff were all excellent, kind and efficient and seemed happy at work which is a sign of a well run establishment
There were plenty of activities available and I enjoyed Pottery and a visit from farm animals. particularly. The food is good and there is always a choice.
I was able to relax and enjoy my stay knowing that my husband was in good hands
The admin manager, Lance and the manager Julie were very kind and helpful with all arrangements,.
I would certainly book further respite stays if possible and would recommend Alex Wood House to anyone considering long term care for loved ones.

My wife is suffering from dementia and for most of the time, is in bed. The staff look after her very well and keep me informed of her situation. I visit her every day.
Reply from Julie Fuller, Home Manager at Alex Wood HouseThank you for taking the time to meet with me to discuss your review. As advised we want to ensure that we meet and strive to exceed our customer's expectations. I was pleased to hear from you that you are more than happy with the care and support we provide your wife since her transfer to Alex Wood House from another care home. You advised that you struggled to assess the range of group activities held within the home as your wife prefers not to participate in these, but prefers to spend time in her room. As discussed when I met with you, if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us so we can discuss and resolve any concerns you may have. I would like to thank you for your lovely feedback about Alex Wood House, when I met with you .

I cannot speak highly enough of Alex Wood House. From the moment we walked through the doors, we felt a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are incredibly friendly, caring and always willing to go the extra mile to ensurw residents are comfortable and happy. Knowing that mum is well cared for gives
me great peace of mind. The rooms are clean, comfortable and thoughtfully designed. There are plenty of activities to keep residents engaged, from social events to creative hobbies, ensuring they stay active and entertained. The food is excellent with a great variety of nutritious and delicious meals. Most importantly the staff treat every resident with dignity and respect, making Alex Wood House feel like a true home.

Dad was a resident of Alex Wood House during December 2024 and January 2025. We chose it because a) it was nearby and b) we had heard good things about it from previous residents. During Dad's time in Alex Wood he was very well looked after and we were very pleased by the level of care and the professionalism
and attitude of all the staff. It is a relatively small care home and this gives it a nice, homely feel. The facilities are first rate and nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff, who all went out of their way to be helpful and kind. All in all, we were all very impressed. Recommended.
Reply from Julie Fuller, Home Manager at Alex Wood HouseMany thanks for your lovely review. Mum entered Alex Wood House on 14th April 2022, for rest bite care as recommended by the NHS. Mum was welcomed in by all and her own individual space was allocated. The management and staff were very helpful and accommodating to the new arrival. Mum enjoyed the social interaction with other residents/
staff and enjoyed the variety of meals prepared for her.
Mum liked the activities organised by the staff and shared many a joyful moment with other residents. Mum was supported with personnel care from the staff and treated with the utmost dignity and respect.
We as a family, praise highly the management and staff working at Alex Wood House who supported Mum with all her healthcare needs. A highly recommended and well-run family-caring facility.
Kind regards, all of the family.

My children convinced my father that he would be safer in a home while I was away on holiday with my husband. We chose Alex Wood House as it was convenient for the family and close to my daughter. We were helped and supported as we set him up for his holiday. 5 days later he decided to stay as he found
the whole experience so positive. He is surrounded by caring people and has people his own age to talk to. He is happy and relaxed and putting in weight. We can't believe the change in him and are very grateful.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.510)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.510) out of 10 for Alex Wood House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.635 for Alex Wood House is calculated as follows: ( (135 Excellents x 5) + (45 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 192 Ratings = 4.635
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Alex Wood House is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
