Keneydon House is a Residential Dementia care home situated in Whittlesey within walking distance of the town centre. In a homely setting, carers provide personalised care, attention and stimulation to people of 65 years or more who due to dementia are no longer able to cope on their own. Each resident is treated as an individual and staff encourage as full and active a lifestyle as possible.

The home has a heritage of over twenty years and is registered for twenty-one residents. A smaller size means that residents benefit from an exceptionally high level of personalised care, provided by skilled, friendly staff. The care provided is built around residents' strengths and constantly seeks to improve their quality of life.

In addition to the comfort and security of 24-hour care, residents are encouraged to enjoy regular activities, outings and entertainment and can celebrate traditional festivities as they would in their own homes. As such visitors are welcome at any time.

My friend was moved from another home in Whittlesey. This is like a posh hotel compared to the other one. Staff give 110% all the time. Always asked if I would like a coffee. Residents always come first. Rooms spotless. My friend always in clean clothes etc.

My mother has been a resident of Keneydon House for approximately 18 months, and currently, she seems very happy there. Last year the home received a Needs Improvement Rating from the CQC and since that time, they have worked hard on improving that rating and are now Overall Good. The staff that we've
met have always seemed kind and caring and we have never had reason to complain. We can't comment on the management team as we normally are only able to visit on weekends as we live 350 miles from the Care Home. Recently the home has been undergoing a face-lift and appears clean and fresh. The residents take part in group activities most days during the week, with occasional trips into the town for the more able. The food served when we have been there always looks to be to a good standard with reasonable portion sizes. Security, in general, is good as we always have to wait to be let in as well as out. Sadly there are no toilet facilities for visitors and often too few staff for the number of residents.

Went to Keneydon House to visit a friend for her birthday. I found her in the lounge dressed and ready to go out, sitting with her friends. I spoke to some of the residents who were being entertained by a member of staff, playing dominoes and the residents were welcome to join in and have help. We were
offered tea and made welcome, lunch was being cooked and my friend was made a cake to celebrate. I found the care and attention to residents lovely. They were like family friends, which was great to see.

My mother has been in Keneydon House a year now.
She has been looked after very well. She enjoys most of the food but if she doesn't they will get her something else.
The home is clean and tidy and everybody is always warm and friendly. The staff are very good with the residents and always seem cheerful.

The carers are extremely caring and really do care about the person they are dealing with at that moment in time. They are very patient and never rush anyone. The carers have a lot of time. They generally are very caring towards the residents.

Well looked after. Laundry done but not ironed. Could do with more activities.
Reply from Michele, Manager at Keneydon House

Very disappointed in the review as activities take place daily and are suited for all our residents' needs. Our Activities co-coordinator is an asset to Keneydon House. The service user only has respite and takes part in the activities provided.

Home is very clean and residents seem happy and content.
Nice big TV on the wall of downstairs sitting room.
Lovely garden at the back that looks well kept.

The carers are very loving towards residents and always say how lovely or beautiful they look. The residents all look clean and tidy. The carers genuinely care about the resident they are dealing with at that time.
I have been different times, different days and the quality of care is always caring
and they want to do it. The carers hygiene is also excellent.

I am always made to feel welcome by the staff. My mum says she is happy. The manager and staff always make themselves available if they wish to speak to them about anything. All staff I have met seem to be happy in their work. It was hard to accept mum needed to go into a care home but we seem to have
made a good choice with choosing Keneydon House.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.138)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.138) out of 10 for Keneydon House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.438 for Keneydon House is calculated as follows: ( (63 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 89 Ratings = 4.438
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Keneydon House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 21 registered maximum number of service users is 4.2, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
